I hope you will have the opportunity to attempt it again. I regret not having an additional day acclimating to altitude, prior to climbing Whitney. I started experiencing some headache close to the summit.

Thank you, Bob. It was indeed a great experience. I did this hike six days after completing a Grand Canyon R2R2R and eight days after a Grand Canyon Rim to River. The day before hiking Whitney, I also hiked to the Cottonwood Lakes (Mt. Langley area) for the final altitude acclimation. Despite spending almost 10 days at 8,000+ feet altitude, the final push to Whitney Peak was tough. I should do it again, but getting those permits is becoming increasingly tough.

Climbed it back in 1977 or 78 the trail was a lot cleaner and wider than, looks as a lot of rocks have fallen since then. I would like to climb it on more time but at 65 I get dizzy at heights I can't even drive high mountain roads anymore... bummer. Great video thanks for taking me back.
@RubiHammer
@RubiHammer 2 жыл бұрын
I believe that you may be able to avoid the dizziness with 2-3 days of altitude adaptation. prior to climbing Whitney. My recommendation : kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4S2q2aVoJqceck

I hear ya.... I'm also 65 and would like to try a 5th summit, but my joints and tendons won't allow it anymore. Too much pain after only a few miles. Last time I did it was 10 years ago, and suffered only some minor nausea at the peak. I usually visit the trail once a year just to hike the first 2.5 miles to Lone Pine Lake, but could not this year due to foot pain - and I just bought new hiking shoes. This video definitely makes up for the lost opportunity.

@@wdrllwebmaster Take much care. Take it slowly. By the way, two knee arthroscopy in my personal history, the latest in 2014. I did a Grand Canyon R2R2R five days prior to this Mt Whitney hike, with three more +20Km hikes in between (Zion and Mt Langley area). See earlier videos in my channel. Knee replacement is tough, but I know people who came back from it to competitive athletics. Work hard and slow on those quads.

Have you been to the highest points in any other states?
@RubiHammer
@RubiHammer Жыл бұрын
I suspect not really. I climbed Mt. Olympus in Greece, but hiking brings you few meters short from the highest point on the mountain. Climbing the highest point will require some climbing gear. Also in Israel, the highest point on Mt. Hermon is closed to the public (it is next to the Israel/Syria) border). Mt Whitney would be my highest climb to date. Been doing the Dolomites and other mountains in the Sierra Nevada. What about yourself?
@RFE812
@RFE812 Жыл бұрын
@@RubiHammer I haven’t been to any state’s highest points themselves because some of them require a 4X4(four wheel drive) & I don’t have a 4X4. I have been close to Charles Mound, Timm’s hill & Black Elk Peak however.
