This brings back a lot of memories! We did this as a group when at CSM about 30 years ago! Good days indeed, and keep at it Ben, Eric and team!

Born and raised in Redruth, and though i always knew i was walking over mine workings, i never really visualised it. Thank you for being daft on my behalf!

I actually went to Redruth in the mid 90s, didn't know about what was under my feet though. We've got a.....similar trip planned, but waiting for dryer weather, but that will be one not seen on video before :). wow, that's a trip you won't forget, we were called mad by another mine exploration group the other day, but you lot are defiantly madder than us! So glad you made it after all that effort.

Wow, what a video. Sitting here in my armchair I’ve never been so glad to see the light of day when you exited the tunnel. Well done, super interesting.

Great to see all these water courses, I bet that was a challenge. I’ve seen photo’s of house in trefusis road falling into one of sparnon’s shafts in the 30s. Sparnon was mined exclusively for cobolt at one time, it was used to colour all those old blue china plates that used to be popular years ago. Great watch Ben!👍
@BenoCam15 сағат бұрын
Interesting, I didn’t realise that. I did see on the plans that there was a cobalt lode… assumed it was a by product of the tin/copper though !
@Dave.w-ev9qn196215 сағат бұрын
@ Think there was some cobalt in east pool mine but sparnon had that load. £600 ton back in 1814. Good pay day!!😀

1:29 ah memories, i grew up 5 mins walk from that stack. Now I’m not sure I want to continue watching as my parents still live there and I would rather you weren’t directly under them. If i recall correctly Albany Road has had several shafts open in gardens there over the years
@tanerhoward64329 сағат бұрын
That was absolutely amazing! I wish I was there crawling. I hope there will be a part two to this.
@alanjewell955015 сағат бұрын
Thats fascinating! Great you actually found at least one adit. I'd want to try to locate those manholes at the surface to shorten the journey. Amazing the phone works, & could be very useful to that end. Look forward to the sequel...
@BenoCam13 сағат бұрын
The round one we passed is in the pavement right by the main traffic lights in Redruth… popping your head out might give people a fright !
@alanjewell955013 сағат бұрын
Yes, just found it on streetview I think - on the pavement by the traffic light post?? You could rock up there early on a Sunday morning with some barriers & looking official...
@PetrolVeinscom11 сағат бұрын
Great video Ben, that's a proper explore! Thanks for doing this for us, I'd go up the bigger stuff but the belly crawling water up to the mouth, not sure about that! Hopefully it'll be drier next time. Is this mine in the vicinity of Berrymans bakery? The small carpark directly opposite has a sign saying park at your own risk, big shaft beneath.
@wayneofox108113 сағат бұрын
Quality hard core explore!!!I've heard they are pumping out the mines under redruth,going to take years but worth it as there's still lots of minerals to be mined. Thanks for sharing!

I used to work under Penventon roundabout with Wacko. Good man to graft with. Never a dull moment. I remember him doing the Sun crossword at croust time, "Timmy, what the "kyj" is a chihewahewa?"says he.. " Wos the clue?" says I, " A small Mexican dog", he replied... Broke me🤣. RIP John. Crawling up a sewer.......what a glamorous life you live !
@BenoCam14 сағат бұрын
Well it’s not a sewer. It’s not even surface water. It’s the mine adits that have been piped out under all the houses with the odd washing machine piped in 🤣

I'm not claustrophobic but going in those tunnels towards the mine would break me. Also, that boot looks very much like a British army ammo boot (the first one which looked yellow under the camera light).
@BenoCam15 сағат бұрын
Interesting! We did think maybe it had been chucked down one of the shafts that may have been open then drifted down that far . Who knows
@StephenSalter-yk4wq15 сағат бұрын
If it’s not a daft question, why don’t you mark on the junctions a count or timings to the exit? Don’t you worry about getting lost?
@BenoCam14 сағат бұрын
It’s not that bad it’s fairly straightforward. The way back out you just follow the water downhill !!!

@BenoCam13 сағат бұрын
It’s not a sewer. That’s the other big pipe that runs along side it. The water is actually very clean ground water. Though I wouldn’t fancy drinking it ! 🤣
