Exploring the PS3 PlayStation Store in 2021 before it Shuts Down 😪

There are reports (not 100% confirmed by Sony yet) that the PlayStation store will be shutting down on the PS3 and PSP in July. And then the PS Vita store will be shutting down in August. It's a sad day for a lot of people, especially those that exclusively play digital games. So in this video, I take a look at the PlayStation Store on the PS3, before it shuts down. A few years from now, I imagine that this video will be very nostalgic...

I'm surprised that the prices aren't low in other countries as well (I'm from Brazil, here a disc game is cheaper than the digital most of the time, just to make a comparison: I paid an equivalent of 4$ in doom eternal, in the digital store the game NEVER was cheaper than 7$)

I feel you, Turkish PSN had it worse, when RDR2 came out It was more expensive even than the UK store (and most expensive among other countries), and when people complained about it PlayStation Turkey just told that the prices were set by the PlayStation UK. Like what the hell? It was more expensive in Turkey than in the UK for fucks sake. Xbox is miles ahead in this regard, and when you consider they officially entered Turkey in 2012, 1 year before the release of Xbox One. Playstation was the console of choice since PS1 but I started seeing Xbox is getting more popular, especially with the price of Xbox Series S.

PS4(pro) is starting to behave similarly if I do any extensive browsing; usually by the time I've checked all the sales on offer it's certain to crash. I did not renew my ps+ subscription and will move to PC gaming in lieu of purchasing a PS5.

The only unplayable cod game is BO2 with dead players and hackers but If you want the best then Play Ghosts, MW3 and BO1 as those are full almost anytime you log on. MW1 and MW2 can be filled with good lobbies depending on timezones but hope this helps.

Not really... There literally is minimal difference between ‘physical’ and ‘digital’ nowadays. Unless it is a small indie title, AAA titles would almost ALWAYS require sizable downloads. Assassins Creed Valhalla for example only has 2-3 gb on the disc and you need to download the rest. Ghost of Tsushima in the same token required an 8gb download on launch. Digital or disc version of consoles in the whole scheme of things really doesn’t matter going forward.

That reminds me sinking over 1000 hours of gameplay/grinding on a Dragon's Dogma Demo. Level was capped, and hit the cap of 99,999 discipline points which I was able to carry over to my main save once I got the game. The 100k discipline points was an absurd jump boost to start out the game. I also carried over 50 million gold. lol

If they actually do shut down the store (don’t know if it’s already been done but it’s inevitably going to happen) people won’t get to see the endings of certain games. Asura’s Wrath and Prince of Persia are two games I know have the ending locked behind DLC. You can always watch the endings on KZbin but that’s not the same as actually playing it.

For anyone who is probably watching this right now: Sony first announced back in March 2021 that the Legacy PlayStation Stores would shut down in the Summer and they got a lot of backlash over the decision and it was until a month later that they postponed the shutdown of the PS3 and PS Vita stores. (The PS3 store was to shutdown in July 2021 and the PS Vita store was to shutdown in August 2021.) The PSP store did shutdown as planned though you can still get PSP games from the PS3 store. I would not be surprised if Sony tries to shutdown the stores in 2022.

Given Sony's bad records over backwards compatibility, this means that shutting down the PS3 and PS Vita stores means that so many games will fade away without no solution to continue playing these old games. In fact, PS1 and PS2 emulation has been done by Sony themselves and it is strange why they choose not to support these games on PS5. It also should be easy for PS Vita and PSP games to be emulated too. But for PS3, not so much due to the system's complex architecture which makes emulating PS3 games more difficult. It would be good if Sony hired people who are more experienced in emulation and this would mean that we would still be able to buy and play these old games from the pre PS4 Era.
