Superb views and very rare to nail such conditions in Scotland. Looks like an anticyclone to the west bringing down a clear Arctic air mass and a subsidence inversion around 700-800m. I've only experienced conditions like that once when hiking to the summit of Tom a Choinich in glen Affric on what was forecast to be high pressure but started off very dreich with patchy drizzle. As I ascended through the cloud from the bealach the brightness increased then I was suddenly in clear blue skies surrounded by a sea of white with islands all around.

What a day! I climbed those 3 after camping in the northern corrie of Moaile Lunndaidh, was in cloud and pouring rain all day and was probably the wettest I've ever been on a hill. Tried to dry out at Bearnais both in vain. So glad you had a perfect day on them, and to see what I missed! Thank you

Wow, incredible views and conditions indeed. Cloud inversion!The only time I've ever experienced that in Scotland was when I did Beinn Fhada and A'Ghlas-bheinn in August 2021. Scotland is truly the best country in the world. I did these three and Moruisg at the start of last month over 2 days from Achnashellach train station, no bike and stayed overnight in the Glenuaig shelter. I went anticlockwise though starting up to the Bealach Bearnais from Pollan Buidhe. Bit of a last-minute decision to go for the big trip as had initially been thinking just Moruisg on its own, or Ruadh-Stac Mor on Beinn Eighe from Coire MhicFhearchair in the days leading up to it. Started off stunning and got the views from Choinnich & Coraichain (not quite as far as the Cairngorms, mind you, but could see out to the small isles, skye and knoydart and over to torridon and the fannaichs). Weather then closed in on the plateau at Creag Toll a'Choin (which you correctly mention is the resurveyed Munro summit!) and Maoile Lunndaidh (I too went to both just in case, as well!) very wet and poor vis and required a compass to navigate off. Down to camp then did Glenuaig to Glencarron over Moruisg and walked the 9k along the road back to Achnashellach station. Same wet conditions and poor vis on plateau but was good vis up to ~750m so decided to go for it. Sadly I sprained my ring finger badly slipping on the descent and out of action for a while. You do a great job on these vlogs, James! Very comprehensive, immersive and inspiring videos, and very expertly edited and produced. Keep up the great work. Euan

The second cairn you were at is I believe the actual Munro on Maoille Lunndaidh. The top on the other side of the plateau is higher but is the Munro top rather than the Munro. Thus making it the least prominent Munro with just 10.5m prominence and the only Munro that isn’t a Murdo.

Interestingly as far as I can gather Maoile Lunndaidh is still officially the Munro as the SMC stubbornly won'y accept theclear evidence that Creag Toll a' Choin is in fact the highest point at 1005.3m compared with ML's height of 1004.9m. I am interested to know where you got the idea that CTaC is in fact the Munro from. Unless the SMC have had a very recent conversion the official Munro is not the highest point. Anyway you did them both. I look back on these hills with amazement - I did them without a bike before I ran a step in my teenage years, but I carried on over Beinn Tarsuinn, Bidean a' Choire Sheasgaich and Lurg Mhor, obviously in summer with long days. I really was knackered dropping down to Loch Monar and back up over Bealach Bearnais.

Hi James, can I please ask a question and sorry if this is really daft/obvious!! When you do those shots when you pan around 180 (like at 15:58 on here) so that the camera goes from facing you to looking straight ahead... are you just turning a Go-Pro around in your hand, or are you using some sort of selfie stick with a rotate setting, or like a 360 degree camera or something? It just seems so very smooth, but maybe that's just the image stabilisation feature (and/or a steady hand!)? Am planning to start making some videos of my days out on the munros, and looking for tips/inspiration. Thanks!, Duncan
@ScottishMunroJourney
@ScottishMunroJourney Жыл бұрын
Hi Duncan, No problem, its just my GoPro Hero 7 Black, the GoPros have great stabilisation so its just me turning the camera 😁 I did have an Insta360 at one point but don’t have it anymore, you might see clips from it in other videos 😁 Cheers, James
