I think it might be a reference to Sosnowsky's hogweed, a plant Soviets tried to use as a cattle food. It was eventually dropped, as it produced saps that caused chemical burns, making it difficult to harvest. The plant, however, turned out to be extremally resiliant and difficult to eradicate, becoming a widespread and dangerous weed in Russia and nearby countries.

I always found it interesting that Division "P" was under the command of the Soviet military's intelligence branch instead of the NKVD (and later KGB). I wonder if Stalin gave the responsibilities for finding, containing, and exploiting the anomalous to the military as a way to maintain a balance of power within the Soviet military-industrial complex. If the security services were able to combine their endless dossiers and enforcement abilities with anomalous artifacts, they'd probably end up running the USSR in short order. If the military gets jurisdiction over the anomalous, it both deprives the security services of a powerful resource _and_ gives it to an organization that can be reliably expected to always be opposed to the security services. Also, the memetic phrase used in SCP-4848 (only identified in the original skip as "F M-M C") is probably "flexible, multi-mission capable". Anyone familiar with the development of the F-35 or who works in military procurement or R&D is probably intimately familiar with the havoc wrought by _that_ particular phrase.

That's creepy, hogweed (and giant hog weed) is an invasive species of plants where I live (BC, Canada). They are a flowering plant which contain a phototoxin that sensitizes human skin to sunlight (Phytophotodermatitis). This causes blistering burns when exposed to sunlight. The effects can last for weeks as it is absorbed into the skin and lingers there even after washing effected areas. This can result in long term scaring or blindness if in the eyes. Crazy to hear it is significant in the SCP universe. It grows in the rural area where I live and it has to be removed with proper safety gear. If you hit it with a weed whacker you are going to have a rough time.

Sep. 4, 2014 -IRL- After Dead Hand was activated by Soviet military officials, "the first thing it does is check the communication lines to work out if there's anyone alive and in charge of the Soviet military," Alok Jha, author of " The Doomsday Handbook," told National Geographic. "If they're not alive, it takes over." If the system concluded that a nuclear strike had taken place, Dead Hand would proceed to launch all of the remaining nuclear weapons from all of the silos throughout the Soviet Union at targets across the Northern Hemisphere. Of course, no system is fool-proof, and there are concerns that Dead Hand could still operate at some level within the modern Russian military and accidentally trigger the launch of Russia's active nukes. "We've since asked the Russians if it's still on," Nichols writes at The National Interest, "and they've assured us, with complete confidence, that we should mind our own business."
@ryancasey40385 жыл бұрын
So happy that people are making videos about SCP lore that isn't focused on the Foundation, GOC, or CI. You should look into the Japanese version of this, the Imperial Japanese Anomalous Matters Examination Agency (IJAMEA). Rolls right off the tongue. I took an in-depth look at their page on a whim, which talks about how they formed a brigade sized element of SCPs to aid the Japanese Army during ww2, in a sort of Pandora's Box type move. They also had some sort of cold war with GRU-P, which I believe was a leading cause in IJAMEA's collapse, with a handful of remaining IJAMEA cells still remaining. Most IJAMEA personnel defected to the SCP organization afterwards, and the SCPF took over most of their SCPs. Remaining cells consist mostly of Japanese royals and/or imperialists, and a few persons with anomalous abilities, and spend most of their time attempting to influence Japan's politics enough to revert them back to fascism/imperialism under an emperor, and retake their former territories. Apparently there was a German version of them as well (IGAMEA, I think), which helped found the Japanese version, though I haven't looked into them too much. The SCP lore has such a broader world beyond the foundation itself, and I hope to see much more exploration of the other factions as a general trend.

By old Russian legends... The Russians are themselves an anomaly. Ancient Russians considered giants as their ancestors. Name of giant - "volot". Imagine huge Russians, in different sizes, from "volot's adult-size newborns" (6-7 m tall, weight ~2.7-4.3 tons) to "higher than trees in forest" (20-50 m tall, weight ~100-1500 ton), and more. And, many Russian mythological characters was a volots or a descendants of the volots. Famous volots: - Svyatogor, huge ancients warrior, in one legend - grandfather of the most popular Russian hero, Ilya Muromets - Maya-Zlatogorka - giantess, daughter of Svyatogor. She put her future husband in her pocket and forgot there for three days. And, her husband was a God, Dazhd'bog. - Devka-Turka - other giantess, very dangerous. In one city they stopped worshiping her, this angered her, she came on her huge horse and crushed the city, in the place of which Lake Svetloyar appeared (470 meters long). - Gorynya, Dubyinya and Usyinya - three giant warriors, first (his name based on "Gora" - "Mountain") - in mount size, third (his name based on "Us" or "Usyi" - "Mustache") - "his mustache is versta long" (versta - 1.067 km). Famous descendants of Volots: - Ilya Muromets - the most popular "bogatyir' " (medieval hero) in Russia, defeated (with other popular heroes - Dobryinya Nikitich and Alyosha Popovich) many monsters (by SCP classification - "Euclid" and "Keter") - Hero with "100-pood mace" (pood = 16.38 kg, 100 pood = 1638 kg) - Marja Morevna - powerful girl ("very tall, very strong, very smart and very beautiful"), who, using very powerful magic, "imprisoned" Koshchey the Immortal (very dangerous and very powerful humanoid creature, looks like an old man, by SCP classification - "Keter"). - Mikula Selyaninovich, huge warrior, and his daughters - Vasilisa Mikulishna and Nastasya Mikulishna. If Mikula was a only "very powerful" man, Vasilisa and Nastasya possessed a magic. And, like a Marja Morevna, they was a "tall, smart and beutiful". - Hero, who use a tree, like a huge mace. - "Bogatyir' " Merkuriy (Russian Mercury), whose head was cut off in battle, but he (decapitated) took it and went to the city. The Mongols got scared of this and left. According to legends, volots have almost disappeared, and "today" they live far from people, high in the mountains. (Russian variant of SCP-1000?!) Later, Russians start to create "wrong" inventions. The most harmless - automatic pistol, designed by unknown engineer, between 1700 and 1725. And, it's not first automatic gun in world (unknown British mechanicist in 1664 builted the revolver with gas-operated mechanism). Other crazy XVIII century project is... Moon program. Yes, Empress Catherine II corresponded for some time with an inventor who proposed an ornithopter for flying to the moon and establishing a Russian colony there. Engineer Alexandet Karamyishev in 1770s built the "Introscope", true "invisibility generator", use a magnetic fields. Also, weird projects between 1860s and 1930s: - Psychotronic weapon and psychotric technologies (works of Behterev, Barchenko, Gorin), effects on the brain, strengthening of the "power of thought" due to special equipment. Behterev studied the human brain, and believed that its possibilities are almost endless, and that anything can be achieved, including immortality. Imagine "techno-magicians" who can throw trees with their minds. He conducted successful experiments with the transmission of thoughts to the dog. Engineer Gorin suggested a "mental telephone". - Genetic projects, selection of "new people" (all - healtly, strong and genius), selection of "ideal soldiers" (ideas of sciencist Ovanov about hybryds between people and apes) - Anabiosis (Bahmetyev's successful experiments on "freezing" bats) - Electronics - works of Gorin, "stell man-automat" and "mechanical watchman", Pilchikov self-targeting torpedoes, Dubenskiy self-targeting "air torpedo" (airplane/glider, start from land, ship, aircrafts or mortars), works at relay and semiconductor computers in 1910-1920s, a "cap" that reads brain impulses in 1914, "uninhabited" turrets for fleet (real perspective projects of Russian navy - you haven't many crew, who operate the guns, you have one central operational system), radiocontrolled battle drone with videocamera - project of Mstislavskiy, mechanical "Scype" and fax machine - engineer Gorin, etc. - Jet-powered aircraft, Teleshev 1867 double-decker on 120 passengers, looks like the Avro Vulcan, "from Paris to St.-Petersburgh in one hour" (more 2000 kmph), Yurkevich 1917 nuclear engine "armoured air ship" ("air ship" in Russian Empire - not only dirigibles, it's also big airplanes and other flying vehicles), with thousands on tons of bombs, and without maximum range, "to billions kilometres of work, use a several grams of fuel", etc. - Crazy vehicles, 285-metres tank with scale armour, 14000-ton walking fortress, "dirigible" with anti-gravity centrifugal engine, "Immeasurable flying apparatus", etc. You look at the Nazis, and you think, "Wow, they had this kind of science," and then you look at the Russians, and you think, "Damn, THIS couldn't be thought of by normal people." An anomaly that fights some anomalies (Koshchey) and creates others (Introscope)... SCP-XXXX - "The Russians", Class - Thaumiel/Keter...

Hogweed is a real, actual plant, which is extremely invasive, grows quite tall, causes -severe chemical burns- Plant-related sunburns(?) on contact (after a few minutes), and basically requires a hazmat crew and/or some flamethrowers to remove.

The most unrealistic aspect of non-scp organisations managing anomalies is that the majority of them should be older and more experienced than the foundation, cauae of being founded in countries that don't have only about 270 years of history. :)

The SCP foundation is older than the US, they just settled there later
