Thanks for this story, The Exploring Series and SCP. For no particular reason I just liked this as a son, brother, cousin and uncle. Whenever the person giving the report briefly went into cycles and the next generation and generation after that of the species that was the subject of the story. Presumably they mapped it and considered it deeply empty so they considered it ‘theirs’ but never having been there they saw it as owed to them, that’s why they wished for immortality to go and ‘claim’ what they saw as rightfully theirs
