Oh wow, it really does mean a lot to see someone covering this article. I remember putting a lot of time into it and my collab partner was an incredible help. Thank you a lot for covering this. I can answer any questions anybody has here if you are so inclined. For anyone listening in, I do recommend checking out the article itself. I feel like there's a bit lost if you can't see the blue text or the drawings we did for the article, which I don't believe this video uses many of our drawings which is a bit of a bummer. There's especially a lot of drawings in the exploration logs. There's also a few details missing, I'm guessing due to monetization reasons. I do really enjoy the usage of backgrounds from existing cartoons though. Especially the Arthur ones, what with the PBS vibe Societown is meant to evoke. (Societown is specifically a bit of a reference to Cyberchase). I've recently stopped writing for the SCP Wiki, but Sputnik Studios will continue to appear in my future projects. The magic in 8060 will not leave us, I can promise you all that. Take care.

1:25:40 Given I've read the comment from one of the authors stating they became disillusioned with the scp community this line feels like it might be part of the reason why. Almost like, the scale of SCPs has blown out of control and now they just exist to tell stories without actually considering the fundamental of what S C P means. Edit: Ratking's comment suggested that you go through the actual article yourself and look at the custom artwork they did for it and while I normally listen to TES audiobook style, I decided to go check it out. I'm really happy I did. I found it kind of hard to grasp what was going on with just audio and seeing the toons really helped me put together the narrative more. The ending image with Rowan kind of shook me to my core.

To me this felt like an homage to being a child. Where dreams can bleed into reality and how you feel like you can do anything. It also feels like an homage to reality slapping you in the face as an adult about how nothing is as easy or nice as it seems. Honestly, poor job from the researchers. This scp definitely sounds very fae in origin. I'd wager that the studio made a deal with fries to help make their shows and movies quickly and cheaply and that the lost final episode was made as a sort of tribute. Seeking after this lost episode would then be considered "intruding" on their property allowing the fae to Lure you into their domain. The way time works differently, the way people are physically and mentally changed, and the abstract and confusing physics that do still follow some sort of logic all point to fae trickery. Especially the insistence of names being important in that bakery scene. That's what first tipped me off.
@ratkingthegreat71612 ай бұрын
While I understand the connection being made (I was always a fan of 4000) I will have to say this: Toons are not Fae, nor are they anything but Toons. Even if a Toon was a Fae, they wouldn’t be a Fae. A Toon that is something is simply depicting that something, they aren’t actually said something.

The dolphin is interesting, since he's nothing but helpful, yet manifests as Rowan's greatest terror. Well, only really helpful insofar as navigating the hellscape of 8060; which is precisely _why_ I think it manifests as a phobia. I think Rowan is subconsciously using that fear to keep him grounded while trying to navigate through a place of irrationality. It is something that gives him direction, while also never letting him feel safe in doing so, preventing him from ever truly becoming anchored to 8060 like his former coworkers were. Specifically, it shows up every single time Rowan starts feeling comfortable. First when talking to Alford, where Rowan gives in and immediately finds himself too many layers deep for his mind to handle. Then, when getting lost in the toon landscape, he appears to realize that listening to him is only helpful in one direction and not the other (it forwards 8060's plot, but not Rowan's, if that makes sense). Finally, when he reached the furthest depths of toon logic (literally the bowels), where he finds his coworkers that are now too far gone to be saved (some really gross stuff would probably happen if they returned). The dolphin reached inside Rowan and was there to sort of "scare him back to reality." And that's just _one_ relatively minor character. I could literally analyze this story indefinitely and still have just as much of an idea about its meaning, then, as I do now. Freaking brilliant story, the quality of which, many writers can only ever strive for.

For the last time, man, simple SCPs that are new do not get attention on KZbin because it is incredibly hard to squeeze 15 minute videos out of of them because they do not have supplemental lore that old SCPs have accumulated over years. If you want to read simple new SCPs, just read the actual wiki. There is literally a “top rated shortest page this month” button that absolutely no one uses. There is no issues with new SCPs being long or convoluted, this channel purposefully just picks ones that are long because it suits the content of the channel.
@koma782 ай бұрын
@@Howard-Hamlin-from-HHM I can only speak for myself here, but I don't have a particular problem with length, it's the substance of these much newer scps that can be cumbersome to enjoy. You can still tell a grounded and less meandering story while keeping it dense with lore and details. Pardon the old metaphor, but I think a good way to understand our point is we're looking for a river, that while not necessarily wide, is still deep. Whereas many of the grander articles we see nowadays are relatively wide and shallow, hitting on many different aspects, but only at a cursory level, leaving them feeling disorganized and convoluted. This is casting a wide net and is certainly not the case for all lengthier articles, but a good majority that are popularly featured.

On Roan's assessment at the end. He should be quarantined, if not given an SCP sub-designation.. It's possible his mind's been shattered or affected by Cognitohazard. He forgets. The SCP Organization deals with "cartoons" all the time. Things that don't apply to the normal rules of physics, biology, or reality. Yet, through interaction, sacrifice, and wit, they make the unknowable understood. Art is not without logic. It is simply an imagined logic. But, as art is manifested by a logical creature in a universe of causality, it too must have logic. Even deliberate depictions of madness has the logic of if it's intended meaning behind it. Once you understand that baseline, you can, in turn, begin to impose your will upon the art itself. Your "interpretation" if you will. If Roan had entered with the mindset learned by the D Class sent in previously, he would have had more self control and more of an idea of that world's rules. That "toon force" was the law of physics. That abstract symbolism was the landscape. That entertainment was the way time and space flowed. Roan is a defeatist. Not because he gave up, but because he lost faith in humanity and his own ability to grow, learn, and adapt. He became too obstinate. A lesson he should have learned in that abstract world. But, it seems he learned nothing. Only fear.

This is my favorite explored SCP since "Q is for Questions", and for the same reason... slightly less so than that one, it gives me a profound feeling of the text being secret genius disgused as nonsense. Much of scp writing is actual nonsense IMO; only very rarely, in stories like Taboo or The Clockworks, can I seem to grasp hints of a cohesive pattern behind all the random silliness that's coming across. Edit: the ending also gives me major vibes of "Such Black Light", the first SCP I ever got into. Existentially terrifying, not because it can kill you super painfully, but because it can destroy your ability to comprehend what life and death and pain and pleasure even are, so you can't even figure out which ones you're experiencing. More Lovecraftian than HPL despite being superficially silly and cheerful. A masterful achievement that I never knew i needed
