PokeTips I know why you couldn’t evolve Weepinbell. You couldn’t get a leaf stone until you went to bills house in kanto. Most people just traded their Gen 1 stone Pokémon to RBY and evolved them there and traded back

It's pretty easy to replace a save battery. I could point you to some credible information if you wanted, as it preserves the game for a long time if you do it. Especially if the battery is 20+ years old, things will die.

I still have the original blue cartridge with my brothers save. He passed when I was 2 and I found the gameboy and learned it was his. He was a squirtle guy. He never finished the game. I set out to complete the Pokédex for him. Last year I finished it for him.

It is extreeeeemely easy to replace the battery in the GBC games. Granted, the old saves wont be there, but the new battery gives the games multiple years of life. Some say around ~12 years

For anyone who’s curious, if your game cartridge runs out of battery it’s not completely dead so don’t throw it away! You can always replace its battery.

I remember one of my older cousins having a copy. It was 2009, when Platinum was the new thing. I asked to play. When I turned it on and saw the graphics, I was like; "This is a Pokémon game?" "Huh. I'm guessing he could transfer the Pokémon from Crystal to Gold or Silver version, then boot it up onto a Super Game Boy (Because only Gold & Silver are backwards compatible with the original Game Boy), and use a Professor SF/Game Doctor to save backup data on a floppy disk.

Soulless Critter Not officially but if you look around there is a way you can back up the save file to a PC with a third party accessory and then swap the save files on the Virtual Console version.

You can repair the battery generally easily, you may get told to use soldering but nah some electrical tape works just fine

it was amazing! I'm 32 and got my first pokemon red with a gameboy color on Christmas day! I was about 10 or 11 I played that game boy for hours, we didn't have back or front lit screens so at night I would have to use a flash light ha ha ! it was so fun though especially when gold, silver and crystal came out. we got to see all our favorite pokemon in color and they actually moved when thrown into battle on crystal version.. the pokemon red and blue games weren't colored so it was all blue or all red.. I remember on summer days riding my bike through the neighborhood with my gameboy and link cable to meet other kids and battle and trade pokemon.. it was so different back then but I wouldn't change anything lol

The battery is used for your save file. Even with a dead battery, the game will play but you wont be able to save. Its common after so long that the batteries go dead. So a common thing, is to remove the old battery, and replace it with a new one. I did that for my Pokemon Silver version.

You actually can save with a dead battery, but it only lasts for about 5-10 minutes before it gets lost haha.

You can reset the time by inputting a password and until you play the game again it's does not have the time active

Look for the master password system for the clock, it allows you to turn it off by following a certain process.

It's amazing you still have a Gen II save (ableit a previous owner replaced the battery). If it's not expensive, perhaps you should look into transferring them to your computer or 3DS VC. I wish I still had my classic saves, but I've lost my saves in many tragic ways. -Yellow was dropped in a toilet by my sister, though the cartridge still works and I beat it again, that save and others would die multiple times, no doubt due to the toilet incident. though last I checked, the 5th or so save I started is still there. I never got a replacement cart. But thank god for emulators and the VC. -I lost Gold when my Dad saved over my file, he thought you could have multiple files like Spyro on the Playstation. I stupidly traded it away at the time. -And Silver was lost when I dropped by GBA for a 2nd time. Amazingly the first time I dropped it, the Save file came back (which is amazing because I had started a new game and saved). I've played through it again and beaten it of course, even had a shiny Koffing (my first)... of course eventually the battery died. I think my Shiny Koffing was cloned onto my sister's Stadium 2 though.

Pokemon Gold (2000) only came out 1 year after Pokemon yellow (1999), well that is if you live in America, in Japan they came out in 1999 and 1998 respectively. I'm 27 and the first Pokemon game I owned was Crystal although I did play my older brother's Red version sometimes.

Funfact: Pokemon was ment to end with the Gen 2 games. Since long term and multi series games weren't all that popular or common back then, so Nentendo went all out with Gold, Sliver, and Crystal.

Hey dude, you can change the batteries of your games, you have a margin of more or less 1 minute before the memory gets cleaned in the absense of the battery, which is enough to keep the saved file changing the battery super fast. (anyway check for that time cuz it's something I remember we did with my dad, changing the battery, but I'm not that sure)

You can take the cartridges in to certain shops and they will swap the batteries out for you!! It won't recover the save unfortunately, but it'll make the game playable again. Though I'd recommend just getting the 3DS versions since you'll never have to worry about the data on your file getting wiped.

You should invest in getting a cart reader and backing up your save files as when you replace the battery you can use the cart reader to put your save file back on. I recommend the GBxCart RW

My first pokemon game was Pokemon Crystal - I actually started playing on an emulator on my highschool-issued chromebook, I think two years ago. It's fun to think of how quickly I've grown since then, going from being entirely convinced that Feraligatr was part Ice-type(not sure how i got the assumption, probably because it learns Ice Fang) to playing through HeartGold with 100 hours and 150+ in my pokedex. I'm pretty sure I stopped playing once I reached Cianwood City, for some reason not knowing where to go next, and then unfortunately the emulator was blocked later in the year. I do still have the savestate files on the chromebook; maybe I can export them to my home computer and finally see my old Feraligatr, Azrai, again.

You are so lucky dude, I found and checked my old G/S/C games back around 2005 and they'd sadly died by that point 😢😢😢 All I remember about my Gold and Crystal Teams are this: Gold - Typhlosion named Mercury and Noctowl named Triton though I'm certain I had a full team (almost certainly had Ho-Oh dos I always include the game mascot in my teams) Crystal - Feraligatr and Suicune But my best Team ever was in Silver, and I'll always remember them: Shenron the Meganium, Shenlong the Quagsire, Jupiter the Ampharos, Escaflowne the Gyarados (Non-Shiny), Silverbolt the Lugia and Phoenix the Ho-Oh all lv96 😭😭😭 (I had well and truly begun my anime journey by this point) Thanks for sharing your old save file PokéTips 💙🐱💙

The game itself is 18 years old because it came out in 2001, but my save isn't that old. I tried wording the title differently from my other save file videos so it wouldn't seem like my save is 18 years old, hopefully this clears things up!
