The rear facing camera is cool and helpful of course on that FHC featured, but those new seats are brilliant.

😂 I never even thought about such a camera. Probably I am still old school or used to less comfort. But indeed a nice feature, same as the nav. I am often using my phone to get directed.

Quick note about US delivery Series 1.5 cars. It should come as no surprise that it sometimes depends. I had a 1967 2+2 e type with uncovered headlights, Series 1 switches and door cards, and triple carbs. It was basically like Jaguar just kept using whatever parts they had until they ran out. My car was not the only strange mashed up etype I got to work on. I worked at a British car specialist shop in the 80’s and we would see many factory amalgamations.

Fully agree with you. I am also driving 1E77010 BW, the first official car with open headlights. All the rest is proper S1. Manufactured on 11th January 67. That is, when the transformation for the US started.

Maikel, only you would skip all those Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis for some E-Type footage. Well done. Looks like a visit to Cecil Cars, O'Rouke Trimmers or L'Atelier de Coteaux would be fun. Full restoration from JLR Classic starts at £500,000.

Hello Maikel. My late boss was acknowledged as the worlds aficinado on Lotus Cortina's . There is no doubt that you are similarly knowledgeable with all things "e" type . Someone has commented that F.H.C 's are twice as difficult to restore as drop heads . I don't understand why . I've haven't had any obvious issues with my '66 2+2 ( apart from very generous amounts of rust ! 🤣🤣 ) lt was great to see Richard as well . Thanks Maikel

Thanks for this video. Its funny seeing all these prices and costs. As a kid I used to get a lift to school in an E-type, still just a current model. I had no interest in cars but the half hour of spirited driving left a deep impression. Small children would gather round whenever it was parked up, something I found quite baffling! I was reaquainted with the E-type in the 1990s and drove a lovely series 1.5 roadster, a rust free low miles and low owner California car that proved hard to sell in the UK at less than £20k. Seeing that coupe at the end with the undersealed bonnet got me quite excited that maybe theres a way to owning one: I wonder what the hammer price was?

Nice story, and I bet it is still the same, then you would be driving a kid to school. I have pics when I parked the E Type a bunch of young teenagers were hanging around it. I always come and ask if someone wants to take a seat. You should see the reaction. The car sold for 90.000 € plus fees. So what do you think?

Thank you Maikel..I will say it again, the hard tops are twice the work as a convertible..I doubt my wife and I will do another...and we have 2E hardtops waiting for resto. There is a reason "Shaun" only does convertibles (with 80 E's done) and Chuck?..same). It takes 6 hours a day, everyday for 2 full years and my wife working...together. If one can do everything (rust,paint,engine/trans,sewing/trim) cost of soft parts only 10K. With crime/car jacking and obesity..the future is the 2+2..was the most expensive and will be again. BTW, if buffed paint..NOT original..NEW cars are not buffed including E's...look into the paint..all show cars are fake as buffed to cover mistakes. Mitch and Vicki...again thank you...opinions with a grain of salt (on BAT 2/19/24 do not miss nice '70 coupe)

You know what it takes. I know what it takes to restore every bolt and nut. Would be so easy just to buy a new hardware set. Looking through parts book and the widely unknown bulletins takes so much time to verify every item. Such a job is not made to earn money like commercial businesses. Your idea is to preversve history. Well done. One day, you might find a collector who just wants that.

Fascinating video. Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed it. How you can tell a reproduction S1 steering wheel and/or horn push from an original? I bet salesmen's hearts sink when you start looking at their E types and they realise your depth of knowledge will sniff out any 'bull'...

Hi, very nice reading your feedback. I have learned my lessons the hard way, and it just want to pass on my experience. I am usually not the salesman best friend 😅 but in general they accept me coming round as they also learn a lot about the car. Most often, the cars are on commission, and I give honest feedback, which, in the end, helps selling the car and not continue dreaming. So, in the end, we are all gaining.

Maikel , with your extensive knowledge of Jaguar E Types, do you find when you see cars, that restorations are very frustrating when not completed properly. We have a saying in the UK that ignorance is bliss. So does this spoil what you are looking at in a car or are keen to correct the mistakes other restorers make ?

Paul, I am always happy to see any E Type. Everyone has their own preferences, and that is totally fine. Sometimes, I am very impressed with the new stuff I see. EAGLE, MOSS, Building the legend are all doing fantastic jobs. 👏 Having said that, I am still, most fascinated to see an all origina, unmolested car, as those become extremely rare compared to the modern restomods, which we will probably see more and more. I would also try to save the black rhinos from extinction, preferably in nature rather than in a Zoo. Go to a show and have 10 restored E Types and one original survivor. Who do you think will attract more attention 🤔. How often do you have the chance to see a genuine original car compared to a modern restoration?

@@JaguarEType Maikel, until I started watching you and Richard M Owen on KZbin, I had no idea many restored E Types or any other Make and model wasn't always to original spec Your extensive knowledge has opened my eyes to the finer details. So as to your question " how often do you see a genuine original E Type ?" I honestly haven't a clue. Your cars are the first I guess. The point is, when I go and view an E Type for sale or at a show claiming to be as left the factory, including original components only you or the likes of Richard would be able to confirm these details. You should write a book.🙂

👋 Paul, thanks for your nice feedback. Obviously you have the passion to know more about the fantastic E Type. By no means they are all the same. I am pointing out original and non original parts because otherwise, in a few years time, nobody will remember how an original car looked or performed. I have two unrestored 61 cars and some restored cars. All of them are driving fine. You are welcome to have a look. My restoration videos might be interesting as well. Enjoy your car and give it a ride ✌️

Hi Maikel, sadly for me I don't own an E Type of any description. During my working life I use to have model E Types on the windowsills of my office and a large Jaguar flag on the wall. Sometimes clients would comment and say they knew were one was if I was interested . I took the details, but everyone of the owners were not prepared to part with their cars, even the owners who didn't have the funds to restore them, they just left them to deteriorate. I knew of 8 E Types all off the road , a XK140 coupe and a XK150 coupe. The XK140 Coupe I knew from my childhood and remembered the car because the colour was powder Blue which was rare on cars in the 1950's, when I tracked it down the car was still in the same family 50yrs later. When I retired I bought a XK100 as a consolation for never owning a E Type Jaguar. The most famous of racing Lightweight E Types. Reg : 4 WPD was for years garaged at a private house 100 mtr from were I live and I didn't know about this until a elderly lady walking her dog passed the end of my driveway stopped and asked me about my XK100, to my astonishment this lady had extensive knowledge about E Types, I was taken a back by what she knew, turned out her husband was the owner of 4 WPD , just my luck the car had been moved on after he passed away. @paulcharlesworth319 Paul, what a story, so close but still so far. Somewhere I was reading:" Owning an E Type, does change your life." I think, it makes you feel privileged to look after such a car. You should still be trying to call one your own.
