Wow, great video, my Bro in law and I trail biked all over that terrain in the mid 70s, it hasn't changed a bit, still as rough as guts, but the views from the Bluff... are really awesome. But not sure I would do it mid Summer... March/April much cooler weather.

About 15 years ago on my first attempt at doing Billy goat I did most of it in 2wd as I stripped the front drive flange in my 80 series about 1/4 of the way through it. People thought i was crazy as I came up to the Helipad as I had it flat to the floor as fast as I could go with the 80 series bouncing and bucking all over the place to this day I don't know how I did it

G’day Steve. Thankyou. Work commitments got in the way mostly. Also, I didn’t really have much of a chance to film properly as I was with a group of people, so trying to create something watchable from very limited snippets of footage was a challenge. 😊

great vid mate. its been a awhile. i follow ur chnl coz i am fj fan. on dry, u reckon a stockFJ (alt tyres) can get get up billy goats?
@4xAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. Absolutely! The stock FJ with a set of all terrain tyres is all you need to do things like Billy Goat Track. A 2” lift lifts the body, but the chassis height is still the same, unless you put larger tyres. 😊👍

This is incredible, thanks for sharing your adventure. I'm getting my FJ today and can't wait to take her on trips! Amazing vehicles. Question; do you use crawl mode on those steep climbs? what has your experience been with that. It's such a fascinating feature of the FJ.
@4xAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! And congratulations on your FJ!! Excellent choice! No, I generally don’t use crawl mode. On steep descents, I put it in low range, first gear and try to use the brakes only lightly if required. That generally does the trick. I’ve tried crawl mode… haven’t been game to use it in a real situation as yet 😂 All the best! 😊👍

Great to see, and thanks for sharing. I’ve really been looking forward to you posting this series. Have you raised the diff breathers or just running with the standard, and if running standard, how did you go?
@4xAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Ross. Yes I’ve raised the diff breathers to a point high up in the engine bay. All good so far. No issues with deep water, and I’ve been in some super deep stuff (you will see in the last episode).

Question mate: How do you find doing these with the roof top tent? I'm keen to get one on my FJ but curious about any change to drivability. Doesn't look like it from your video but would be keen to hear your thoughts
@4xAdventures2 жыл бұрын
G’day! Excellent question. As far as I can tell, there’s no difference in drivability or stability that I can notice. I’ve done some pretty gnarly tracks with 45* inclines and side to side rocking, and the FJ seems pretty stable to me. That said, there is increased wind noise on highway at high speed, but the stereo covers that up well enough :) My FJ is set up for touring rather than extreme rock climbing stuff. If you are into that, I’d probably recommend a swag instead of a roof top tent, but if you’re more into touring with the odd challenging track, then I find the roof top tent fantastic.
@voodoocruiser25432 жыл бұрын
@@4xAdventures Nice one thanks for your input. I've had a swag on the ground for the last 20-something years and feel like it's time to do my back a favour in terms of a better bed. Sounds like the FJ will just continue being an FJ regardless of having a bed on the roof :)
@nathanmountain55402 жыл бұрын
Traction control and diff locks don't work together, a diff lock will literally go against traction control that's the point of diff locks to turn as one and not alternate. But a very nice calm video.
