@ExploringWithJosh if you think Detroit is bad. Maybe come to East Cleveland. It's 10x worse in Ohio than Michigan.
@brandisonealАй бұрын
As a native Detroiter, I appreciate this recording. I absolutely hate that my parents decided to double down and raise me and my siblings in this ghetto city. We could have had so many other opportunities and a better quality of life. They have always been in denial about this City. My father has nostalgia for the 1950s and 1960s and is defensive about the city's reputation. Tells you a lot about his personality - lives in the past without accepting reality instead of searching for greener pastures and relies on the comfort of a dangerous place. Yes, ironic to be more comfortable in Detroit cause it's where you always lived although it's failing. Most diehard Detroiters are like this. It's the same mentality of people who don't evacuate war zones or natural disaster zones that will always have problems.

I live near Detroit- well, Ypsilanti. I honestly hate all of SE Michigan, its just so 'ugly'. But I do still hold hope for Detroit's comeback- not like it was before but new. Downtown is nice but that's almost like a facade. Not sure a complete comeback will ever happen but if it does I hope it's the natives of Detroit that make it happen, not outsiders from nowhere near that know nothing about the culture.

In Flint during the pandemic houses where being sold in Bundles but not to the People of Flint. I remember in the 90s taking my Grandmother for a ride around and her crying in sadness because of the state of Flint . I now understand. Our schools that once stood Beautifully are now Broken and Burnt and nothing was replaced for our Future.

Detroit in the 80s and 90s was pretty wild. Still areas you don’t want to park your car. A lot of neighborhoods had to schools closed due to budget cuts. Government has been cutting school funding since the 80s. With people moving away due to gangs or job losses there was less local property taxes to pay for most schools so they were closed. Devastation was two fold, loss of students and money. I hope Detroit continues its economic recovery.
@graceical28226 ай бұрын
That is really interesting, thanks for helping me understand. In the UK we have such limited land available that huge cities practically empty just couldn't happen, so it is wild to try and wrap my head around.
@tracyhue236 ай бұрын
@@graceical2822 you’re welcome. Detroit is actually the 2nd largest city in the Midwest. In the US property taxes contribute to local school districts and then the state and federal governments give more funds based on size of student population. We have a count day where attendance matters as it determines the funding amount the state government allocates each district from the federal funds received. Sadly in the US there are many towns and cities that are either dying or have died due to population decline, pollution, or some other reason. Sometimes it’s because the military owned the “town” and still owns the land but the base is shut down. Detroit was hit especially hard when the big 3 American automakers hit hard times and started closing plants and laying people off. With few prospects of employment those who could move, moved. Those who couldn’t attempted to keep on keeping on. In addition to gang violence and drug trafficking Detroit is also a food desert; meaning access to fresh food is often difficult to find as grocery stores close enough to shop at so convenience stores and gas stations it is.
@detroitdieselseries50716 ай бұрын
Here in Canada, it’s the provincial governments that fund education until grade 12, not property taxes by cities/municipalities. Also our provincial government of Ontario is run by a Conservative government who has implemented massive cuts recently

Josh- if you somehow read this and you’re still in Detroit PLEASE consider checking out Northville psychiatric hospital. It was abandoned on the spot and left as is so there’s tons of old stuff left behind. It has tunnels that are mostly sealed now that lead to a boys home nearby, and there’s stories about how some of the psychiatric patients would escape and wind up in the boys home, subsequently traumatizing the boys. There was tons of demonic rituals preformed in the tunnels as well, anyone who’s been there has at least one unexplainable thing happen to them. There’s a lot of negative energy there but it’s a very interesting location. The tunnels can still be accessed from certain areas and I’d be happy to put you in touch with people that can tell you more and guide you through there.

Josh, This guy telling his story about him dying is awesome and sad that he went through is bad but I really hope he is doing something good in his life cause god and his Love of his family that he has never met are watching over him and that’s why he’s still alive. Josh I believe it cause I have dyed 3times in my life. In 1963 I was 11yrs. Old at the time and it was one week before Christmas and my aunt needed me and my cousin and her friends took us to get her some lights for the tree and just as soon as we got on the highway there was a man ran the stop sign and we hit him going 80 miles per hour it was the speed limit back then. There were five of us in the car and I was the only one that got hurt really bad I was DOA on the way to the hospital cause I went through the windshield and back though it and they said I got out of the car and walked around to see if my family and friends were ok and then when the ambulance got there I had passed out. They said that as soon as I was put me in there I dyed and they brought me back 3 times and the doctors at the hospital had to bring me back over and over again. That’s just the first time I’ve dyed the year of 1980 I had to go get a tooth filled and the dentist just pulled it out and broke my jaw and that’s cause a lot of stuff happened after. I have had 36 surgeries done on my jaw and that’s why I dyed 2 more times and I went through the same thing he did and the light is a real thing and I saw a lot and it was really hard to understand at the time but later I realized just what happened to me and it took me 2 years to talk about it to anyone cause I had to understand it myself first before I could tell them. It’s been a long process but now I’m grateful for it because now I know were god is and he’s real . I’m hoping that you read this josh cause it’s something I don’t tell a lot of people about. God bless you and your family and friends and be safe and careful ♥️♥️🙏🙏👍👍
