So good to see someone talking about this color. I have not used it, myself, so I'm thrilled you were able to get it and share your experience with it. Your wide range of tests really show off the way this paint works, overall, and how it might be incorporated into an individual's set up. Really well done video, Daniel - thank you! Hoping all is well on your side of the pond! Cheers! ~ Mark

Such a fun conversation below - love it! As a beginner i learned a lot - thanks guys. (btw - 'goat' was an avatar name given to me by Google. I don't know how to change it and after several years running as 'goat' I really don't care anymore. My name is actually Sonja. 🙂

I love this in depth review! Wonderfully done Dan! Although I own a tube of Schmincke YInMn, I feel precious about it and didn't open it yet. But I have the pigment from paint makers and I do like it a lot. It has such a beautiful strong granulation, which really showed in your swatches. I might need to open mine soon and use it. :D Thanks for the video!

What do you mean granulation by dispersion? I thought all granulation was due to large pigment particles settling to the bottom.

I usually class granulation by dispersion as pigments that react with water to granulate such as ultramarine, where as I class pigments like manganese granulation due to pigment settling into groves of the paper due to weight of the pigment. While it is true that that can be present in ultramarine i find it granulates more because of the amount of water and I don't think the pigment settles as heavily. I can move the particles of ultramarine with brush but I can't do that with heavier ones such as manganese because it settles deeper. Hope that makes some sense, was struggling how to word it! I may or may not be generally correct. I always thought that there were two kinds of granulation.

@@goat8477 Hi goat! (Ok, this has to be the weirdest greeting I’ve typed here 😂) YInMn is not a phthalocyanine; but my point is YINMn can’t be the first blue pigment in 200 years because we have the phthalos in the 1920s or 1930s, Indanthrone in the first decade of the 20th century, and cerulean in the 1850s/1860s.

@@PauloEAbreu Hi Paulo! 😭 Nice to see you here 🙂. But I thought cerulean was inorganic too 🤨

@@awatercolourist Cerulean was discovered in 1805, but it took 55 years to become available as a colour for artists. And I have known Dan for the longest time now ...
