Great video! Seems like a beautiful and picturesque village! The old windmills with the colorful wooden homes and canals gives it a charm and elegant atmosphere. The wooden shoe workshop looked fascinating as well as the goat wearing a jacket.

Hi James, many tourists think that the Zaanse Schans is an old town but it has only been here for sixty years. The houses and windmills have been brought here from all over the Zaan region to preserve them for the future.

Hi Jacqueline! Absolutely! Zaanse Schans may not have as long of a history as other places in the country, but I feel like it's still a beautiful place and I really enjoyed my time there.

Zaanse Sjans is something else.......
@c.d.g.9949

Only a Dutch person understands this pun. An explonation for the English readers. A "schans" is an earthen wall that was raised against the enemy. In this case the 80 y war against Spaniards from 1568 til 1648. You can call it an earlier form of fortification It is pronounced "sjans" and that means that you are attracted to the opposite sex.

Just to clarify even the cafeteria where you bought food did not have a free washroom? So all but one windmill in the Netherlands are there as a tourist attraction? Were they ever functional, or built as tourist landmarks?

Zaanse Schans is NOT a town but a neighborhood of Zaandam. Just another clickbait video full of misinformation. Rule of thumb is that if you cannot pronounce it, don't vlog about it. Same as when you can't pronounce "Parmesan", don't eat it.
