You know, the thing I love about urban exploration videos is that they preserve the memory of something that Was. With abandoned houses, it's a way of preserving the memory of the people that lived there, even when their identities are hidden by the explorer to protect the house and the family that might still be around. It's letting the world know this person existed, they LIVED, they were HERE. With buildings and caves full of cars, it's a peek at history, it helps preserve the information about those places, about those things. It's a form of preservation for when those things are gone.

None of these cars are worth much at all. The Beetles are mostly 70s models which are the least desirable ones for collectors and the Golf models are also the lower trim models that aren’t worth restoring or even stealing. And none of them have enough value to go through the trouble to get them inside that abandoned mine. So that rules out it being a rich persons collection, unless they collect junk. And not being worth much rules out them being stolen, why steal cars that aren’t worth much? Besides, most of them have their keys which is very rare with stolen cars. The fact that the location is very hard to access rules out a chop shop, as does the fact that the parts are worth much and they are just setting there rusting away. Someone posted that they belong to a guy that owns a museum of some sort and these are the ones that weren’t good enough to display or he uses as parts cars. That could be true, but I am sure he could find a better location that is easier to access and keep the cars in better condition. But out of the other options, it makes more sense. BTW, that hacked up black one with flames isn’t any special addition. It is just a poorly done custom that someone did. There is no way it was from the factory or even done by a true custom shop. It looks like something you would find in a trailer park that some redneck made while drinking too many beers. I wouldn’t believe much of what the one guy says since he hasn’t a clue about the history of the VW Beetle. Hitler did not design the type 1, he simply contacted Porsche to make a “”People’s Car”. The VW type 1 was a way that Nazi Germany could raise money, it was never intended to be sold to the people. You had to buy “coupons” over a period of time to get one and it was set up that no one could ever afford to buy enough to actually own one. Edit: After looking at the website for the Musee Volkswreck museum, I would say that theses cars are most likely connected with it. It really isn’t a museum, more like an automotive attraction of sorts. None of the VWs on display are classic ones, just worthless ones set up in different displays like Herbie the Love Bug, VW bus from Cars, and other whimsical displays. The cars in the mine fit perfectly with that sort of thing. The only question is why are there VWs that are not old air cooled ones in the mine? That is what the museum advertises, not front wheel drive, front engine, water cooled models. Maybe he bought all of them as a package and had to take them all to get what he wanted. But it is still a weird spot to store them, especially it looks like a nightmare to get them into the mine.
@elementneon7 ай бұрын
Good points all around. People don't just one day decide to make a museum like that, AND THEN start collecting. I imagine they originally worked as VW repair specialists and parts dealers and acquired a bunch over the years, then deciding to create the museum for side cash or love of the cars. Probably still do parts sales and/or repair work on the side. They also might just see really good deals while refreshing VW listings all day, or end up with unrepairable newer vehicles that the owners decide to abandon. I had the same thought while watching the video and so my mind wandered onto some of these considerations. PS- Nice username, I used to oversee IT for the design company Mopar worked with for much of their web media work.

If it was a chop shop, you'd think it would be full of Volvos, Saabs, other cars made there or popular in Sweden, just a thought! I agree with someone else, the way you came in is not how these cars got there as the ceiling looks too low. Great video!

That's awesome...there are so many collectors out there who would love to see or own some of those cars. Great job on the flying, Is that a DJI drone?

Very interesting and yay for car history ! .. I see a VW Beetle and I never think of the going that far back, I think 60's and 70's.

I say all of your videos are my favorite but this one you hit the jackpot Josh ! ❤ my opinion about these cars could’ve been towed cars or car accidents. But the real question is were the cars there before or after the war?

At 32:07 a license plate appears on the back of a white Volkswagen Gulf. It's, "PF*65*91". I know Josh is curious how these got here. MAYBE that license plate could be a REALLY GOOD clue!

The oldest article published I could find on Google about this was Nov 2023. There’s another recent video by Bob Thissan that is getting a lot of attention. I can’t find anything on why they are there, how long they’ve been there or if they’re stolen. I personally think they’re stolen, but most importantly though is HOW did whoever get them in there. Many of them looked like they weren’t even drivable. I also read that most of them still had their keys in them. It’s all so weird and cool, definitely something I want to dig deeper into and see if anyone has ran any of the plate numbers to see who they belonged to and if they’re reported stolen or what. Thanks for doing this, very cool video!
