Great serie, thank you. I was wondering the same; easy method for early war but ... with asdics, radars and planes overhead it will be a different matter. Sticking around to see what happens in a "couple" more patrols, in about 16 or 17 months things will get a bit more serious. The type II D was my favorite back then. Also the II B in the Black Sea :) Type XXIII was a hoot !

I love the immersion, and wish more people saw your videos! Last video, you mentioned the last type VII uboot on display near Kiel, no? Well, we Americans specialize in taking stuff (It's the way the British raised us, honest!) and have a type VII on display near the great lakes of North America (and some other things). If you ever visit America, you'll have a full schedule!

Great video and thanks for keeping the SIM alive. Got lucky - In SH IV, you need to completely sink a target (not just bottom out) to get the credit making shallow water operations all the more stressful.

Start of video: Nah, you will be completely fine there. Regarding your timing of the speed of the target, you took the measurement at 305, which is 55 degrees from your 0. The table doesn't give you correction for that and I assume it will be something higher than your own speed. The table seems to be a sin (angle) * your speed, or a cosine, I am not sure.

This is a blast of a series! One question: the lines you draw with your instruments ... what mod do you have to make them so thick? I sadly don't have the onealex edition.. i can't run it well for one reason or another but i have the gwx3 and the ARB GUI but the lines are still sh*t. Do you have any idea what mods make the lines nice like yours?

You've likely been asked this before, but why this over SH4? The bundle with the U-boat dlc is only $5 right now on Steam, so I'm wondering if it's even worth, or will it just sit in my library?

Thats just personal preference. I enjoy the challenge of the Atlantic war more than the Pacific. You don´t need to buy Sh3 if you want to play with the OneAlex Edition ;)

@@Enterprise6126 : Late war, 1943-45, the Allies had far more (and much better due to more advanced technology) escorts than the Japanese. This meant that the U-boats had a more difficult war than the American submarines in the Pacific. The Americans lost 52 submarines in total during WW2 (and 2 of those were lost on training cruises). Compare this with the Germans losing 249 U-boats just in 1944. That's 5 times as many subs lost in about 1/4 of the time.

Geile Serie, freue mich auf mehr, eine bitte hätte ich, hab mir die Mod besorgt doch leider erscheint beim start "Can not initialize 3D engine" . Hab die Suchmaschine bemüht doch die tipps und tricks funktionieren nicht ausser die Desktop auflösung 1024x768 zu stellen oder in der Main.cfg Fullscreen auszuschalten, dann startet das Spiel. Doch in so einer geringen Auflösung möchte Ich ungern spielen, hattest du auch das Problem und wenn ja wie hast du es gelöst? schöne Feiertage wünsch ich dir

Hi, nein das Problem hatte ich nicht. Versuch nochmal das ganze neu zu installieren und achte darauf dass du die Anleitung dazu penibel befolgst. Versuch aber erstmal in den Eigenschaften der SH3.exe den Kompatibilitätsmodus anzupassen. Vielleicht liegt es daran.

@@Tonci87 DOT mod should add a fair bit if I am not mistaken, though I am not sure if it is still up to date with the vanilla game. From my recent play - a LOT was done to improve the game, more content (ship types) some ships have a fake flag and are travelling odd routes --> sink them to find out in post menu - crew can be trained to compare shipping routes with BDU info from neutral countries to detect and determine if a ship is in fact neutral or not.. Planes actually are a thing to fear - or I am extremely unlucky (got bombed twice, both were on point - one insta sink one took a bit but did sink in the end). What I miss in UBOAT is multiple subs 😕 Just the type VII is available. But then again, it was just a small team kickstarter ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ I also tried this and am LOVING it so far (: Really surprised how stable it is considering I added a lot of the mods included in the pack..

So how do you operate differently when the destroyers get radar? I skimmed how they work, didn't quite get it, but it sounded kinda like game over. And very good engagement, very brave, I would have ditched and ran, lol.

It will become a lot more challenging. But Radar isn´t magic. Especially the early radars basically require line of sight to detect anything. Later on I will have to work with Radar warning receivers (as they become available) to stay clear of them. But it won´t be easy. 1943 basically spelled the death of the U-Boats in the Atlantik. The losses were so bad that all U-boats had to be recalled home at some point.

@@Coinkidoink Yes, it will become very hard/suicidal to get close..... but not impossible :D

By using e-lint antenna. It catches radar pulses and you get a warning long ahead of time. Radar funtions by giving a pulse signal, that signal bounces off an object and returns and gives a radar ping where distance is determined by the time it takes to send and recieve. Radar signals however travels a long distance, much further away then the radar reciever can pick it up/fade away, so you get a fair amount of warning. Second is adopting a snorkel so you can stay submerged indefinitely, you can still be detected with it deployed but it reduces the chance. Third you get really, really good with evasive maneuvers, and how to stay "safe" long enough to deploy your fishes before you scarper off with your tail between your legs.
