Algebra II on Khan Academy: Your studies in algebra 1 have built a solid foundation from which you can explore linear equations, inequalities, and functions. In algebra 2 we build upon that foundation and not only extend our knowledge of algebra 1, but slowly become capable of tackling the BIG questions of the universe. We'll again touch on systems of equations, inequalities, and functions...but we'll also address exponential and logarithmic functions, logarithms, imaginary and complex numbers, conic sections, and matrices. Don't let these big words intimidate you. We're on this journey with you!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

I love how there's a split between "not helpful" and "helpful." Everyone learns different. To the people who are commenting: maybe it's you and not Khan. Ever think about that? You have to open up your mind, maybe rewind the video a couple of times, and if you still don't get it then it's because you have a different learning ability than what is being displayed. Don't bash Khan. Be thankful they're posting this at all.

idk if people realize that sometimes only watching a video once doesn't mean you automatically learn the whole lesson. Plus, these are just two examples and only of word problems. I had to go back a bunch of times to answer my questions, but I understand how to solve the word problems now. People also have to realize that not everyone learns the same as they do. The world does not revolve around you and there's many different ways to learn. You have to find the best way for you. That may not be watching Khan Academy videos, but that doesn't mean they're horrible at teaching- many people love the way they teach- it just means you don't understand it in the way they explain it. Or maybe you're just not trying hard enough. Math like this doesn't always come easy. Think about it before you tell them what they do is bad or unhelpful.

Both arguments are true. You can multiply by 0.08, but you'll end up with 16 right, then you will have to add the initial value which was 200, to get 216. But you want to know the growth, and usually you deal with equation or even asked for equations from your prof. thats why you multiply by 1.08 to get 216. Don't look at it as confusion, kind of look at it as a shortcut :)

@bomberfun1 You are multiplying, hence the need for the 1.08. (Where I live) sales tax works the same way. The rate is 8 % where I live so you multiple your sub-total by 1.08 to get your total after tax, then round that value if necessary.

@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 I came here because I didn’t understand that formula and this one makes a lot more sense to me. It’s just all the different learning styles. In my online class they give you a doc with a bunch of words that all jumble together for me. So having a real person with a physical example helped explain a lot. If you learn different it’s totally cool, it’s not khan academy’s fault though.

If the percent was a two digit number like 20 percent would i still need the 1 in front of my percentage like in Nadia problem 1.08 annual growth?
@tommysimamora5681
@tommysimamora5681 9 жыл бұрын
GothicDarkhellrazor Yes - it's 1.20 because 20% = 0.2. So you add 1 + 0.2 =1.20 Just remember per CENT = per 100 So 1 = 100/100 = 100% 0.85 = 85/100 = 85% 0.2 = 20/100 = 20% 1.20 is basically additional 20% growth on top of your current amount. Thus if you have $100k * 1.20 = $120k... That means you grew your investment by 20k. If you lost 15% (equivalent of 0.15) this year, you subtract it 1 - 0.15 = 0.85. Thus if you have $100k * 0.85 = $85k... That means you lost $15k.
