For a little context; most of the people arrested were not eligible to vote but voted in error not out of fraudulent intent. In Florida voters passed a constitutional ammendment in 2018 to restore voting rights to people who have been convicted of a felony and served their sentence. The exception to this ammendment is people who have been convicted of sex crimes and murder still cannot vote. The majority of the 20 people arrested seem to have had this kind of conviction but had been told by some state official that they could vote, registered and received voter cards.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I also wanted to say that what the DeSantis administration did was probably not legally entrapment, but something sneaky that gives them plausible deniability. Since the passage of the ammendment restore the voting rights of most people with a past felony conviction is relatively recent, it was inevitable that some people who would not be eligible would be registered by mistake. DeSantis and his people likely knew this and went looking for people who had been registered this way. I suspect they pulled this stunt because the people who they would arrest and parade before the media had been convicted of murder and sex crimes, making them less sympathetic to a lot of people (there also at least seems to be a racial element to who they decided to arrest).

@@sh0werp0wer The sad thing is it replaced a tiny handful of ex convicts each year having to go before a panel led by Rick Scott to plead for their voter rights, and it didn't matter how long a person had been out of prison, how minor the offense was, or if they had testimonials from Jesus, the Buddha and Lady Justice, they denied almost everyone. It took a direct vote from the electorate to get what we have now and the legislature still attempted to do an end run around the voters despite it being a plain language ammendment to the Florida constitution.

This is another example of how Florida's computer systems and information systems are in desperate need of updating and revamping. I'm sure the guy that got voter registration and jury service in the mail was in some computer system in Tallahassee wrong, due to a single clerical or input error. Others then need to check these systems manually after-the-fact (bad design). What should happen is databases need to talk to one another and cross-reference to check BEFORE validating someone as voter or jury eligible. Unfortunately, Ron's "Task force" found errors created by his own state's technological shortcomings and then used them for political game, but in all of this their IT systems ARE NOT getting scrutinized the way they should, which is too bad.
