This isn’t about being “negative” it’s about telling the truth. Also, telling retailers they’re “being negative” when they’re raising legitimate concerns is part of the indoctrination process and protecting the brand. Don’t be afraid to be honest and tell your truth!

Just a reminder, the MLM structure was the failure, not you. 😍 Actually, the fact that someone as beautiful and talented as you didn't "succeed" with lularoe should be all the proof someone needs that the mlm structure is inherently flawed. Your photo shoots were adorable!! You are clearly destined for great things. Best of luck and so glad to hear that yout hb sounds like one of the good guys out there. 😍

The MLM structure was corrupted by Lularoe, it was an actual Ponzi scheme.
@MadelineTheFashion
@MadelineTheFashion 3 жыл бұрын
@@bridgethannah2933 what exactly makes you say that? Personally, I am unaware of any difference between the MLM structure of LuLaRoe & other MLMs, with with exception of the blatant inventory loading with LuLaRoe, which is 1 of the reasons that the state of Washington was able to successfully bring charges against them for being a pyramid scheme. Another reason was proof of outrageous income claims, which are against the FTC and SEC guidelines for MLMs. A ponzi scheme is slightly different in the sense that there's usually no tangible product and the money from the last investors are used to pay back the first investors to gove the company legitimacy. But I would like to hear why you think that. 😊

Also, I forgot to mention a few things in the video - * I’m not sure how widespread this was but… we were encouraged to buy a re-tag gun so that we could wear clothes to pop-ups and then re-tag and sell 😬 For the record, I did NOT do this because it felt morally wrong (and unsanitary) 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️ * I also remember being left completely alone at some amusement park thing at the convention. I asked to tag along with some local ladies and they ditched me. * Also at the convention - I had the opportunity to meet the owners. I was not impressed. Deanne basically rolled her eyes and walked over to sign bonus checks. * We were not allowed to be in B/S/T groups (even if we wanted to purchase something for ourselves) * Items were constantly missing from orders * We were encouraged to constantly do giveaways with our own product at our own expense.

Re-tagging is gross. Good for you for refusing to do that! And good for you for maintaining your integrity. That fact is one I haven’t heard mentioned yet. THIS JUST IN: When you are making money from RECRUITING PEOPLE and GETTING THEM TO INVEST IN PRODUCT versus making sales... IT'S A RED FLAG .
@LizzieinLace
@LizzieinLace 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for clearing that up ;-) Actually one of the points that they really leaned into was the fact that you "didn't have to have a team" in order to be successful (although that's where the real money was made obviously). I never recruited and wasn't interested so I was oblivious to the fact that it was initially based off of product purchased (and this was not only for commission check qualification but also cruise qualifying as well... meaning that they basically overpaid for their cruise lol). It wasn't until after it was changed to product sold that I saw what they were doing. We were told not to question anything so many people fully trusted that Lularoe's decisions were legit and didn't see the "red flags" until they were out. I talked about this a bit in the second video.

I just watched the LulaRoe documentary yesterday and am absolutely riveted by all the stories shared by the sellers. If I'd ever have been tempted to get involved (and frankly, I never heard of LulaRoe until about a year ago, when the bloom was already off the rose, so the speak) I'd have lasted about 5 minutes before I would have come unglued with anxiety and anger over all the control that was exerted over the sellers. I admire that you refused to recruit others to join your team (I could never have done that, either!) and to submit to wearing ONLY their clothes. Insane! To tyrannize over the people who've invested in your products and browbeat them with shaming techniques floors me--and that people were willing to submit to that for so long before bailing out--I can't really take it in. I'm a pretty non-confrontational person and I don't like to rock boats, but I'd have had a meltdown. And I'd have probably had some terse words telling them what they could do with their "resignation letter" demand, to boot. No wonder the folks who've gotten out are so traumatized. What a nasty cult-like organization! Thanks for sharing your account. (Off now to listen to part 2!)

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment, Victoria! There are a lot of interesting stories out there. It's crazy because it's one of those situations where you don't really understand what's going on until you're on the outside looking in. There were some very, very manipulative practices and questioning anything was a big no-no. Absolutely! It boggles my mind! But I remind myself that everyone's situation and thinking process is different. Some of us learn from the situation and others... just keep doing it without question. I hear you on the non-confrontational part lol! I'm the same way but I'm learning how to stand up for myself and now that I've been in this situation (and other similar circumstances), I can spot the signs from a mile away. I will never understand how they sleep at night knowing how many people this has negatively impacted!

If you don’t want to answer this, I understand. Was DeAnne the same when you joined, or were involved with the company? I’m talking about her philosophy about “getting on your knees every day for your husband” basically so he won’t be upset about all the money you spend on products. I find it strange that she is/was mormon, and thats not really something people of that faith talk about, especially in front of thousands of people. She kinda sounds like she would be better selling Pure Romance products. 😂
@LizzieinLace
@LizzieinLace 8 ай бұрын
@@XLindsLuvsPinkX Not a problem at all! That's a valid question and you'll be happy to know that DeAnne and I do NOT share the same beliefs lol! As far as DeAnne being the same person when I joined - do you mean in relation to now? If so, I feel like not much has changed. A zebra never changes it's stripes, after all. I met her in person once and she made me feel invisible, unimportant and unworthy. Why people were obsessed with this woman, I will never understand. She did, in fact, say inappropriate things like that (both of them did) and honestly, it made me feel icky. I guess my marriage is different because my husband and I are more private and have a mutual respect for one another and don't feel the need to give out special favors in exchange for a shopping spree lol! I found it very weird as well! I am not Mormon but I have friends that are and that behavior is very uncharacteristic. And while things like this were being said, it was very much encouraged to "cover up" when presenting the clothing - super contradicting! But after coming across some of their newest creations, it looks like they may have changed their tune in terms of modesty. I don't follow or keep in touch with anyone from the company so I don't know if this is due to a change in beliefs or a desperate attempt to remain relevant amongst the ever-changing trends.

I’m a Christian (I tell people “in general”, because I’m not a bible thumper or anything) and I just find it ridiculous when people try to push their beliefs on others, ESPECIALLY when they make it part of their business. Amway I think is the most religious MLM I’ve heard of, but other companies or sales reps still use it as a basis for selling and recruiting. It’s ok with me if it’s an underlying base, but it gets insane when companies have conventions or meetings where they come on stage, or otherwise start with something like “Let’s all take a moment to praise God for putting this company in our path, so to give us the “opportunity” to make more money and become financially free!”. Yes, God wants you to have enough money to support yourself or your family, but he also doesn’t want you to feel stressed and pressured all the time, or love bomb you because it’s a slimy way of keeping you in the business. Then what’s even worse is when you do leave, you become enemy #1, and are told you didn’t want it enough or didn’t work hard enough. Even worse, companies that rely on religion and say things like “Well, Im sorry you didn’t do what you needed when God called you to this company”, or otherwise use it in a way that heavily suggests that you’re faith isn’t strong enough. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Were you a part of the LuLaRich documentary? I know I said I’ve never seen you before, but your face does seem a bit familiar. I also wanted to say that you personally responding to my comment kinda feels (to me) like talking to a celebrity. I have like 2 or 3 other KZbinrs that I love that have responded to me, and I keep those responses in my email because they make me feel good lol.
@LizzieinLace
@LizzieinLace 7 ай бұрын
I agree. And I'm a Christian as well but I would never push my beliefs on anyone else. You are so right. Religion is weaponized. I'm all about gratitude but they use it a an excuse to recruit and create connections but once someone decides to leave, you're non-existent. I was completely ostracized - they were interested when they wanted me to make money for the company but were not understanding when I felt it was time to leave. And yes, I've actually heard the "you're faith isn't strong enough" bit previously. Not okay to twist that. No, I wasn't part of the documentary but you may have run across some of my photos online or on Pinterest (I have a blog as well!)... or maybe I just have one of those faces haha!! Aw! Well thank you!! I'm just a normal gal but you saying that makes my day :-)

I’m also obsessed with the Amelia (only lularoe style I like lol). In Dec 2019, I was also working 4 jobs (an MLM, a tutor for our homeschool co-op, a quality analyst for a car company, and a personal assistant to a mortgage broker). That incentive and drive to make money is REAL. It’s addictive. And we feel like we can just take on more and more and more and more, until we break. In Feb 2020, I quit all my jobs. I’ve never felt more free. But I completely understand that “need” for the hustle.

LOL!!! The Amelia is the dress the sold me into joining 😂 I will say that it's very cute and flattering. It was all downhill after that lol. Oh wow!! So you totally understand where I'm coming from. Definitely - I think the drive to be "successful" and my background had a lot to do with it. There were many less than ideal financial situations I went through growing up and I never wanted to be in that place again. I also grew up with a single mom that worked all hours of the day so I thought it was normal. You are right! We feel invincible until we burn ourselves out. It got to the point where my health was in jeopardy and it wasn't like I was raking in a ton of money! It's just not worth it. I quite everything aside from my blog/YT/IG and it has been exactly what I needed. I realized that I was working myself way harder than I needed to. It was never about money for me but my priorities have shifted since then. It's important to take care of yourself

If you "broke even" did you pay yourself anything or were you working for free for 7 months?
@LizzieinLace

Ooo this is a really good question! As far as breaking even, I did not make anything personally. Once I subtracted everything that I invested from what I made, it was basically at zero (I was over maybe $100, if that?). I put the majority back into the business - reordering product, buying racks, business cards, convention fees, other expenses. So yes... I was basically working for free for 7 months lol! And my goodness, it took up ALL of my time. Full-time work for part-time pay haha (or in my case, no pay!).

So, this "wear only lularoe" thing is why they would layer clashing patterns?
@LizzieinLace
@LizzieinLace 2 жыл бұрын
Correct!! They did this for a few reasons. Firstly, they strongly encouraged us to upsell so instead of selling just one item, consultants would create a full outfit in hopes of selling all pieces. The print mixing was a "thing" and Lularoe wanted to capitalize on that. Secondly, as the prints got increasingly worse, consultants decided to style things together in order to sell these items. For example, if there was a pair of leggings that wasn't selling then they would style it with a top of a more desirable print and sometimes, a third piece like a kimono or cardigan. In order to get the "unicorn" print, you'd have to buy all items in the outfit including the undesirable ones. I didn't do this but many consultants did. Lastly, in terms of "only wearing Lularoe," they basically wanted us to be walking billboards. And of course, as a "boutique" you'd want to wear items from it as part of your marketing strategy but you wouldn't want it to be your entire outfit. That's where I drew the line. The patterns were so wild that they often clashed and I would style items with non-Lularoe items, which was very much looked down on.

I actually went into a lot of detail about why I started in my video :-) There are a few reasons but that should clear it up so feel free to give it a watch! I started in 2015 before they got "big" - the quality was actually much better then and they actually had better prints (if you can believe it lol). By the end of that year, things started to go downhill in terms of quality, prints, management, and much more. I covered all of this in my video as well in the red flags and why I quit sections. I don't disagree with you though and I value your input. Thank you for sharing your thoughts

@@Ballieanimation Oh yes! Sorry for the confusion :-) Oh wow!! It's really interesting because I'm not the type of person that would get into this... yet I did haha! I also did get scammed by a "college" as well years ago - I'll have to share that at a different time but I guess it happens even to people when they *think* they are being cautious and making the right decision. I think my decision to start Lularoe was very much driven by my passion for fashion. I felt desperate to fulfill my lifelong dream after so many doors closed for me previously. I also was in a very different place mentally with my self-confidence and the circumstances in my life were much different. I feel like this is something that they should have touched on more in the documentary as I'm sure many can relate. I guess you live and you learn :-) Thank you so much for that!!
