Embrace those DNFs Lianne! You may not have completed any books, but you've still accomplished taking 4 books off that list. WIN!

I'm honestly just as happy to see someone DNF books from their TBR as finish them! If the goal is to tackle your TBR, this is still a win!

The good thing about reading tbr veterans is the number left always goes down, never up because you bought more books. Lol I'm doing this in 2024. So far I've read or dnf'd 8 veterans. Only 1 even rated 3 stars, none were keepers. But I feel better getting them off my shelf! Well, out of a box, really. But each book we eliminate is a WIN to me. 🎉📦🎉

I count that as a success, at least you tried them and now you don’t have to feel guilty looking at them on your shelves.

📦 "...a level of myself that I haven't been in a long time...I just don't really want to engage with that for the sake of a book that's 3 or 3.5 stars and is not going to change my world in any way." YES! Absolutely! I feel this and totally agree. Thank you for saying this. This is why I don't pick up some books that may be raved about like "My Dark Vanessa." I don't want to be in the headspace that I know it will inevitably put me in.

I understand what you’re going through in this vlog. Reading the oldest books on your tbr is so hard! For my 24 books to read in 2024, I (unfortunately) decided to tackle my tbr veterans. I only read three and dnfed two as of August. It’s not going well. I might just do a "read a chapter challenge" with them because most of them don’t interest me anymore

I've been going through my tbr as well! I cut down almost 100 books on my tbr! I only own about 8 books but these were on my goodreads list. I decided I didn't want to read them or checked them out and read/dnf'd them. Down to 147 on my TBR list and going strong! My goal is to get to 80-100.

I'm sorry that books you really thought you'd like didn't work out, especially after you hung onto them through your previous collection culls. That being said, I'm in the camp of people who are really happy you tackled them, ever if they were DNFs. Now you know for sure they're not for you and you can open up that space for new potential faves. Also- they don't have to take up any more mental space, as there's no more guilt for having not read them. I think this vlog was a total win!
@charlisimone66534 ай бұрын
I find that I don’t enjoy 85% of my tbr veterans, and I think it is because I get so in my head and hype them and then i can’t enjoy them. I actually avoid buying books now for this reason, because the guilt and disappointment is just too much! but sometimes I do a reread before reading a unread book i’ve been sitting on, and I find that helps, because I’m almost always more excited for rereads and obsessed with them, so it gives my tbr veterans more wiggle room. but also, go dnfs! the sooner you can move on the lighter you’ll feel

Birnam Wood was an early fave from the start of this year but it does take 60 percent of the book to set all the pieces up but then it was the most anxiety inducing final act of anything else I've read this year. The pacing is more than uneven and it is completely fair to not be up for that at all. I love the idea of this series and as someone who is terrible about reading books I own, it does also make me nervous for the oldest veterans. The reader I was 5 years ago is not the same reader I am today and we may make different choices.

But I hope you can still see this as a good thing; you tackled some tbr veterans, and now you can get rid of them knowing that you gave them a chance. And as a viewer, I don't mind DNFs at all! No, it’s not you. I DNF’d Birnam Wood too. I made it to 200 pages - forced myself to go that far as it was a book club read. There was nothing clever about it, in my opinion. I also take issue with being lectured at, where the author’s voice and message is getting in the way of the story. It was also incredibly boring. At one point, as one character is going up through the woods and comes across some security, you think it’s going to get interesting. A coupe of pages later and it’s “false alarm”
