I've always thought that the primary color question was a trick question since the primary colors differ depending on what color scheme the person is talking about. If you are talking about the additive color scheme (primarily used in physics and is the technology used by your computer monitor, tv, and phone screen) then the primary colors are red, green, and blue. You can confirm this by looking at your monitor settings. When mixing light waves red and green make yellow. If you are talking about the subtractive color scheme (primarily used when coloring materials via paints and crayons) then the primary colors are cyan, magenta, and yellow. You can confirm this by looking at a color printer cartridge. When mixing paints yellow and magenta make green. So yeah, an LED manufacturer is going to say that the primary colors are red, green, and blue because they are using light waves (and therefore the additive color scheme) to express their colors.

On the color scheme one - just to be clear there’s a difference with how dyes work in this respect and arguably the true primary colors of light which are RGB - Using different amounts of Red, Green or Blue light you can make any colors. With dyes, the difference is that they’re absorbing all colors except the one you see (which they reflect) - so you end up with a slightly different way to mix them in order to get the colors you want. In fact many printers as I’m sure you are aware will use Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (which arguably makes them the primary colors for dyes. The point is it get strangely convoluted with dyes whereas your eyes have 3 color receptors, Red, Green and Blue so they are the true primary colors because that’s how our eyes work! Every pixel on a monitor is a block of RGB with different amounts being released of each to get the desired color for that pixel. I could go deeper and explain how they’re not actually equally spaced on the visible spectrum and we’re much more sensitive to green than say Blue so two lights of the same intensity the green one would appear to be brighter but we don’t notice this because our brain does all the compensation without our being aware of it. However it then gets philosophical in that I can never proove you see the same as I see or that your red looks the same as my red in fact it’s actually meaningless. We just both call that color red - but who knows how we might differ in the way we actually perceive it. Incidentally some species have just two color receptors (that’s also what color blindness is) and some have 4 meaning they see the world in much more interesting color depth than we do.
@tabbi8886 ай бұрын
As an artist I had a problem when they said red was a primary colour as you can mix it with magenta and yellow, I personally use magenta cyan and yellow when painting rather than the old red blue yellow as it makes more vivid colour mixes. You can always mute a colour with its complimentary, but you can't make one brighter.
@n00blamer6 ай бұрын
Yea and printing uses CMYK Cyan Magenta Yellow blacK
@Chris-Lynch5 ай бұрын
yeah. when it comes to paint or dyes you’re blocking colours and reflecting others. Printers used to use a different mix of 4 colours (I can’t remember them now) however CYMK reproduces a flatter colour palette. If you think about it. Cyan absorbs all red whilst reflecting Green and blue, Yellow is interesting because it’s the only colour we perceive as the same when generated two different ways. In dyes it’s reflecting a portion of Red & Green but absorbing Blue. Magenta is reflecting Blue & Red whilst absorbing green. Giving you a way to control how much of each visible primary is absorbed or reflected.

Sorry for nerd dropping but you can make the color blue, he also said in the video "when it comes to paint" at one point. You make blue by mixing purple and green, in light it's a primary color, but he literally confused everyone that we aren't talking about light. With light the primary colors are rgb, that's why monitors use that. In painting though it's very different. When talking about colors in light black and white aren't considered colors (they are the combination of all colors/white or the lack of any light/black), but when painting they are part of the primary colors you use when mixing a pallet. So the people who started with purple, magenta, green, cyan or aqua were technically on the right track as they were lead on to think about mixing paints. Cool fact: in light, the primary colors can still be made from the secondary colors.

There are two sets of primary colours: additive and subtractive. Subtractive is for situations where pigments are mixed together (like for painting) and the primary colours are blue, red and yellow. Tertiary colors are colors like Red-orange or yellow-orange. Yes those are basically just orange, but it's either got more red or more yellow. They're basically just variations of secondary colors that either lean left or right. ...I spent a lot of money to go to art school to learn this 😅 Edit: mixing a primary color and a secondary color will get you a "tertiary color" unless it's a complimentary color in which case you will get brown.
@Crackpot_Astronaut2 жыл бұрын
I had to learn this in my Restorative Art class and honestly, it's been one of the most difficult things for me to remember for some reason. But after this, I'm pretty sure I won't forget it when I take my boards 😋

Primary color and secondary colors make a tertiary colors when mixed, Leon was almost there. *edit, I’m a moron, complimentary don’t make brown. See response below from serpentine
@serpentine73852 жыл бұрын
Sorry to say but that's not right. Yes Primary colours and Secondary colours make a Tertiary colour when mixed, but by mixing two Complimentary colours you'll get a muted verson of those colours and if you have to much of one Complimentary colour and you'll get diffrent shades of gray. And also Ms. Lush was wrong about what types of colours to get brown, it's two Secondary colours.

The four primary colours are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key, for inks. RGB is for light, rather than printing. Blue printing is from Cyan and Magenta. Red is from Yellow and Magenta. (different qualities of these colours can be made adding small quantities of the third pigment colour and/or key, as well as by reducing the saturation of one or more of the main pigments. Spot colours can be made from specific pigments, but the gamut of colour printing is higher with CMYK than from any three other pigments.

The jack and Jill quote goes like this. Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water, jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling down after.
This is what happens when the teachers are more concerned with their gender identity. And when during Geography class, the teacher spends all the time talking about the patriarchy.

"What are the 3 primary colors?" For light, it's Red, Green, Blue; for pigments, it's Red, Yellow, Blue.
@mbourque Жыл бұрын
16:58 correction. the three primary colors depends on if you are talking colors of light or colors of pigments (paint). the three primary colors of light are red, yellow, and blue. BUT the three primary colors of pigment are red, GREEN, and blue. and since may items are colored by pigments in order to change a light color (think lLEDs), you might be talking about pigments instead of light.

RED GREEN BLUE are the primary emission or additive colours used in displays because those are the 3 types of colour receptors in our eyes. Paint colours are subtractive.
