My Camera is Sony a6400. I too have this experience that I can adjust exposure compensation only if it is auto ISO. And I don't know the exact reason.
@anikethake5 жыл бұрын
In case of sony, when you are in any mode mostly exposure compensation changes the settings which are set as auto to compensate for the exposure, in case of manual mode everything is manual and there is no setting which camera can override but if you are keeping iso to the auto then exposure compensation dial changes iso to give you the exposure setting you dial to , exposure compensations implementations are different for different brand as per my observation, some let's you override settings some don't, hope this might answer your question

I use Exposure Compensation when shooting in Manual Mode and AUTO ISO and it works perfect, specially when shooting and animal at the Zoo that keeps moving from the shade area to a bright area. Then AUTO ISO keeps giving me a correct exposure and the Exposure Compensation set a few dots to the left, will force the image not to be overexposed
@jasonbodden8816 Жыл бұрын
Exposure Compensation doesn't work in Manual mode as you set and adjust everything about your exposure yourself.
@laranitasantana Жыл бұрын
@@jasonbodden8816 Yes it does. In case you didn't know there is a function in the latest DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras called: "Auto ISO with Exposure Compensation". When I shoot birds or subjects in fast motion with Continuous Autofocus, I setup the camera in Manual mode (to control the Speed and Aperture), but I choose not to control the ISO manually on each shot since is very difficult to change the ISO on each frame while shooting at 13 or 20 frames per second, So I leave to job to the technique: "Auto ISO with Exposure compensation". That is, for each of the 13 continuous shots taken, the Auto ISO decides which is the best ISO value, however and sometimes the Auto ISO has the tendency to overexpose the shot. So there is a button in you camera, usually marked with the symbols + / - in which I can control the exposure stops, lets say to - 3. This forces the AUTO ISO to always underexpose the shot by 3 stops. If you still have trouble understanding this, type in Google or KZbin the following: Auto ISO with Exposure Compensation. Once you understand this technique you can also try it yourself.

Yesterday I learnt about histograms(from Saurav 😉 and Becki & Chris) and today I went out shooting as I flex my new histogram muscles. I dialled in my settings till I was satisfied with the look. I checked on my histogram but I realised that my shot was underexposed and my blacks were crushed. I played with the settings but going extreme with a setting meant i couldnt get the shot that i wanted. A thought came to me that what if i crank the exposure🤔, i dialled it up a little bit and my oh my, i was astonished that that little button that photographers barely talk about, turns out to be a really useful button. Now I'm here to lean more about it. To be honest, learning how to use the histogram has been a game-changer, I don't think if i would have ever used exposure compensation were it not for the histogram, thank man and thank you for talking about exposure compensation😁. I don't really know if you will ever see this but I am really grateful.

So EC basically gives u lighter or darker images. When would you use it though? After exposing using ISO, SS, and Aperture, is EC the last option to use to expose your image(s)? Does EC affect the quality in videos/photos at all?
@jasonbodden8816 Жыл бұрын
EC isn't a function in Manual mode, typically. You adjust all the settings yourself so the camera has nothing to control. However, in some cameras, if the ISO is set to Auto ISO, Exposure Compensation will work in Manual mode and will only adjust the ISO setting by a fixed value.

I mean increasing the ev or decreasing the means overiding the ISO sensitivity standard n technically its changing the sensitivity of sensor like ISO with same ISO like charechteristics like lossing color depth, increase in noise levels, softening a jpeg etc? Or increaseing ev dosent have any side effects other than increasing exposure? Can u pls explain as this isn't explained in the video Why is shutter speed changing while chainging the ev in Manual mode. did camera choose shutter speed as parameter for ev compensation? If so why shutterspeed ?
