[Express Freight] PRR S1, NYC Niagara, UP Challenger, Big Bog, N&W Class A

👍 Dear club members and audiences! Have you ever imagine a steam engine that was designed for express passenger train service and was caple of hitting 130mph, powered a freight train for testing? Believe it or not, It actually happened in American railroading history! I believe a smart person like you know exactly what we are talking about! Yes, it was the PRR S1 #6100 6-4-4-6 Duplex "Big Engine"! According to The Keystone Magazine | Vol.27 | No.2 | Summer 1994, during a pre-service (1939) road test, the S1 was clocked at 73 miles per hour (117 km/h) towing 90 freight cars!💪 We assume the 90 freight cars were loaded, so we try to recreate the test run with the help of the Trainz Simulator base on the historical record! You will see the NYC Niagara 4-8-4, the legendary dual service engine hauling the same load (90 cars) compete with the PRR S1!
In part three, you will see a race suggested by our club member -👍 Conrail Valley Productions, PRR FG-1 (a fantasy engine created by K&L Trainz and N&W 1218 double-heading verse two UP Big Boys (4012 & 4014). You can also find the UP 4-6-6-4 Challenger vs. N&W Class A #1219 in this video.

Man that start was a crawl for both engines! It was interesting to see that there still wasn't much slip from the S1 but that might just be from the Trainz physics. I guess it's because it has more power but I definitely didn't expect for the S1 to pull on the Niagara! One thing that I have to question is the chuffing on the S1. It seems that something in the config is doubling the sound, it might be because of the piston count being set differently from the enginesound file was made at but I haven't went into changing things like that yet so I have no definite answer. A great way to get a heavy consist that doesn't want to move is to let off the throttle and let the piston pressure go down, it will cause the engine to gain grip, and then slowly apply throttle with low reverser setting to get it up and moving. The N&W did a very amazing job on the A class! If only we could see 1218 running again, that would be awesome! The Challenger and A class are very fairly matched since both were designed to be fast freight/passenger engines. There are some stories of the A's going down hill with load at 70+ mph. It is really nice to see that so many amazing models have started to come out of very famous and lesser known trains now. I thank the Trainz community for giving us the ability to make these videos for all to enjoy!

I mean, that FG-1 is an interesting concept, and I wish the PRR would have gone that route, but this version sounds like an internal combustion engine at speed. It's a beautiful model otherwise.
