As a Brazilian gathering information about BRT systems around the world, I think this system is great! It seems to be totally suited to its needs: traversing long distances in a really rapid mode. These tracks also create a problem to non-authorized vehicles to get into it, what would happen if it only was a concrete-paved track. The guided system also gives versatility to busses. But one can see the system is old, as the payment system is made inside the bus, and not outside it, adding time. Low-floor busses are great, as the gap between them and the platform is not an issue, but maybe it's not a problem as the usage is not heavy, although a high-floor bus can have more space, weighing pros and cons, the low ones can also be proper.

s k t s t k its a kerb-guided busway, where there is a guide wheel connected to each front stub axle, controlling the steering, the kerb is what pushes the guide wheel in a certain direction. It’s a German system called O-Bahn, but it can be found worldwide.

@@MatthewSchoepf I don't get the concept. Ok, they have a distinct road with no other trafic which is good but... are the drivers so bad they can't make it on a normal road or... did they need to spend their budget on something expensive instead of just building a road? What are the benefits of that O-Bahn?
@MatthewSchoepf4 жыл бұрын
MrUpsidown essentially they wanted a train or tram system, but opted for a cheaper system that resembled a train. If they built a dedicated roadway instead, it would defeat the idea of having a mass transit option at that time. Nowadays a dedicated roadway would be better because it’s far cheaper
@TigraWatanabe4 жыл бұрын
@@MrUpsidown I think the Reason could be the Time. It's an Express Vehicle, so it's faster then usual, Having own Roads for this help in Citys where you often have Traffic Jams in the Rush Hours. So this Bus can skip the most of normal Streets with this Lanes. Wiki Infos: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guided_bus Would be good if Emergenxy Vehicles can use this Lanes too.
@MatthewSchoepf4 жыл бұрын
Tigra Watanabe in theory emergency vehicles could use them, but there’s no point, as there’d be a hospital close to where the patient needs to be. Using the o-Bahn would only necessary if there was only one or two hospitals in all of adelaide metropolitan area, but that’s not the case.

Very fancy system, ofcource an expensive system, a separate track system for city bus? which goes from isolated places to reach other parts of the city? carries less people than Metro, quite impractical for big cities, Yes it can be an alternative system for metro system in smaller cities, but it will only work in cities with less population, wide land space, and ofcource with big mucipal budget.

State government and councils chose this over a tram like or train line because it was “cheaper” in the short term.

It was “cheaper” in the short term over a tram or train line. If the same situation happened today and they wanted the same outcome, I’d choose an automated people mover system over this one, as it gives a relatively low cost for a train-like system.
