"I did my homework" is very clear in that s/he has done it. However, "I'm done with my homeworkd" well the person could be angry and mean "forget it, I'm done with it and I'm not going to do any more homework or even do his homework" see how if you over analyse sentences it becomes confusing. In English "I did my homework is absolutely fine!!
@angelnajera51073 жыл бұрын
You're getting too hung up on the nuances of English, instead of focusing on the point he was getting at. Though, you could investigate or experiment and see if this works in Chinese too.

I had the same feeling when I saw the two sentences. I guess it's cultural. In Europe, we say "I've done my homework when there's no time reference.".

Chinese has so many aspects. I think in another video you covered 完。 from what I understand 吃完了 means someone ate everything literally but 吃好了 means they ate until they were satisfied. I think also 完 is more formal and can only go with certain verbs. For example I don’t think 想 and 完 can go together...
@zhangruyi31532 жыл бұрын
吃完了 - have eaten, finished eating 想 完 means finish thinking - so a teacher may ask a class 你們想完嗎 ? Have you all finished thinking?

These lesson are great. I think they would be fantastic if the pinyin could also be shown. That would make everything crystal clear and 100% useful especially for people who are in early stages of learning Chinese and can't read characters very well yet. Excellent video but please consider adding pinyin if possible.
@fireflyhaze49383 жыл бұрын
Actually, in the HSK 3 exam they don't include the pinyin, so actually it's better this way... Maybe you're just not ready for HSK 3 yet! 🙂 I think there is a section devoted to HSK 2 you could have a look at! For me it is actually good to just have the characters because it forces me to read the characters instead of relying on the pinyin. 😅 When there are both, my eye naturally drifts to the pinyin. 😄

Why do we not add 了 at the end of 准备好 or 买好 or 穿好?some verbs get 了 others don't.
@shacoorlee9916 жыл бұрын
了 is used when something's really happened (in near or far past, remember past! okay...) when I say I haven't decided yet, then it's something not already happened. In that case we don't put 了 in the sentence. Hope you get that!

Excellent video, which I liked a lot - thanks! Just a couple of questions. For the last example, I was thinking of 决定 for the word decided. Can you say "我还没决定好"? Also, I noticed a couple of comments about the difference between 完 and 好 here, and I'm still a little confused about the difference between 我看好书 and 我看完书。Does the first mean you're expressing some satisfaction about it, and the second focus more on finishing the book? If you could help advise on these points, I'd be so grateful

Good suggestion, although we don't have anything on exam strategy yet. Those taking our courses practice HSK exams with the HSK 3 Standard Course Workbook, which are basically mock exams. You can also watch KZbin channels such as "HanBridge" which specifically addresses exam strategy. Taking mock exams also helps. But regardless, what's the most important is not test strategy, but having a good knowledge of the language itself and develop communicative skills.

@ChineseZeroToHero6 жыл бұрын
你洗好水果了吗?Is used more often. I guess we are just used to hearing "了吗" together. Unfortunately not everything in Chinese grammar can be explicitly taught or explained, nor is it worth the time to do so. You just need to read/listen more to get a sense of what's more commonly used, and you'll enjoy more Chinese content by learning it that way. After all this is a human language, not a computer language...

From the beginning, I am confused. "I'm done with my homework" is a rare expression meaning "I'm so tired/bored with that (terrible) homework; That homework almost killed me with its difficulties..." Similarly, "I'm done reviewing this lesson" = "I am so tired/bored/annoyed with reviewing..." 99% sure - you meant "I've done" (normal present perfect in English is have + past participle, not "am + past participle")? Please correct if this is so.
@ChineseZeroToHero7 жыл бұрын
"be done with something" is an English expression meaning "It's done, I don't have to worry about it any more"
@Forestier16 жыл бұрын
Chinese Zero To Hero this could be true of American English, yes. Elsewhere we say: we’ve finished doing our homework/ finished reviewing this lesson.
@TinTeddyVideos3 жыл бұрын
I agree. To a non - American English speaker "to be done" with something means more than just finished. It would be a very rare sentence here, in the UK.
@fireflyhaze49383 жыл бұрын
@@Forestier1 That being said, all the Present Perfect accomplishes in this context is adding a time insinuation that it has happened recently, not in how complete the task is.

the video is good but here is no pinyin.its difficult to understand
@elyshiad.29025 жыл бұрын
The reason, they don't use pinyin is because many people feel as though it hold you back. They want you to focus more on the characters and the sounds associated with them. Is suggest if you feel like learning more check out some previous level lessons. But I do admit that it is easier to understand if you already have some prior vocab experience from school. If you like pinyin, to remember the pronunciation, find it on quizlet. This way you can remember how to pronounce correctly and you will have a quizlet to study from.
@annk10192 жыл бұрын
The first sentence does imply that the homework was finished (I did it.... it's done) but the second sentence carries a strong implication that the person got tired of doing the homework or reviewing the lesson and so stopped doing the action at some point and abandoned it in a bit of a temper without necessarily having finished it. 'I have finished my homework' clearly indicates that the task was completed. When someone breaks up a relationship it is quite normal to hear the phrase 'I'm done with you' meaning that the relationship has ended because of a breakdown in the same. Just wanted to pass on these finer points of the funny old English language so' I'm done with this comment'. I love your lessons, thank you. I am not done with watching your channel!
