Nice walk through-it would be nice for an update now things are much easier and with 2.0 released
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
Good point, I should do that. I think for many people even with 2.0 they’ll need to follow these steps the first time. Because you need to connect to the receivers using the older method if they don’t already have 2.0 on them. Once more receivers are shipping with 2.0 firmware, this guide should be updated.

In my understanding it still is possible to connect the ELRS receiver to an SBUS pad on the FC, you have to check the "Invert TX" box in the elrs configurator however. Is this right?
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
That’s correct! They added that option a while back.

I imagine now that some radios have built in elrs, this would simplify some things as far as Lewis script and whatnot? Also there's drones with elrs receiver's installed, so another shortcut I imagine. But I am considering the zorro radio with elrs ,the version that comes with a couple receiver's and t type antennas because I have quite a few drones with xm+ receiver's and want to convert them to elrs. Such as the shadowfiend and others. I'm just wondering since the radios already have elrs this should make it much easier to get my drones converted from Frsky to elrs? Or do I still have alot of setup to do? I'm not that good with computers and hate getting new files set up and whatnot. Not a problem with betaflight, just the Lewis script is my big fear. I've never had to mess with it.
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
The radios with ELRS built in do simplify things a little bit, but not significantly so. You still have to load the Lua script onto the SD card for the radio. It's really nothing to be afraid of, though! If you download and use the ELRS Configurator to flash the ELRS firmware on your radio and receivers, the configurator has a button to "Download Lua Script" and that will download it to your computer. Then you just put it in the Scripts\Tools folder on the SD card for your radio. If you can handle Betaflight, I promise you can handle this :)

It isn’t necessary to update OpenTX with the nightly build version. Only when you want to have the lowest latency, and it has something to do with displaying the packet rate in the right way. Don’t know all the ins an outs of it, but i thought i should mention it here Btw: nice video series about ELRS👍
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
Actually yes, I think that since I released this video, the newest release of OpenTX actually does support ELRS, although as you said perhaps not in the 500hz mode. I should check into that and post a more detailed update. Thanks for the clarification.

When binding. i add power and my RX LED never goes out, so it doesn't get into bind mode. What are my options?
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
Try removing power as soon as the RX light goes on. Then do that again. Then plug it in a third time and you should see the double blink for bind mode. I typically set a passphrase in the ELRS configurator when I build the firmware and bind that way. It’s so easy so I recommend that. But the method I mentioned first should work. Let me know if it does not.

Re firmware does that mean that if you use pp rx you cannot connect to an ep rx? All quads have to use one or other?
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
That was what I understood to be the case when I set mine up, but another commenter seemed to think it was not the case. I haven’t investigated it again yet but probably will soon because I’m getting some EP receivers in a week or two. If you’re buying new, I’d get the EP2 instead of the PP.
@360vroomers3 жыл бұрын
@@ATXAirborne ok thanks. personally i prefer the fact that PP has no exposed antennas. Fewer things to break. :)

any clue to be used in tango2
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
You'd need a lite-size module for that. The current one out (www.banggood.com/custlink/3DKYOkjl8C) is made for the Jumper T-Lite. There's some reference to using it on the Tango 2, but it seems to require changing a connector to make it work. I believe I've seen that Happymodel is working on another version of the lite module which should work on the FrSky X-Lite and (presumably) the Tango 2. Hopefully that will be out before too long.

What is the standard size of wire should i use?
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
For this, use the smallest thing you can. It’s not high current by any means, and larger wires just add weight. I typically scavenge leftover wires from camera cables or flight controller wires.

Can I use this on Eachine Novice IV drone with Tx12 remote?
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
You should be able to, and it’d be a good choice for that one since that drone seems to be designed for long range. I’d get the EP1 RX with the external antenna if you do it. You also will need the transmitter module so that the TX12 can communicate over ExpressLRS.

Please make clear which ELRS frequecy system you are documenting (915mhz or 2.4ghz) in the title and video description.
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, good idea. I've updated it. For what it's worth, for anything other than specifically long-range flying, I can't imagine 915MHz being worth it. I'm getting range out of the 2.4GHz that should be more than sufficient for what most people do with micro quads. If you're flying a fixed-wing plane or doing long range quadcopter flights, 915MHz might start to make sense. I also believe the setup process for both versions is very similar, although I haven't set up the 915MHz gear yet.
@zbirdman7773 жыл бұрын
Seems like half the work was just updating firmware on everything. I’m really surprised there is specific firmware for each version of the receiver, even if they’re all 2.4ghz. That’s pretty annoying.
@ATXAirborne3 жыл бұрын
I agree, it’s a big downside right now. I think if they don’t release a universal firmware, the answer will be to use the EP1 and EP2 receivers from happymodel. The EP1 has an external antenna and the EP2 has the ceramic antenna. Both have WiFi for firmware updates, as well.
@JoshHardie93 жыл бұрын
