maybe its just my unit, but in really warm weather (direct sunlight) r9m lite module also overheats on max power. Other than everything is great, and I like to say thanks to UAV Tech..and thanks to all the people behind Elrs!

I have two of the R9 modules and one of them was from their 1st batch release. I use to run it at 1w and noticed after a couple of packs that my range got really bad. I would turn off my radio or switch to a non r9 copter and fly a couple of packs or wait like 10 minutes and then my range would go back to normal. I had read they had an issue with the module overheating with the 1st batch. On my second batch module I never had that problem but I didn't use 1w on it cause it was on a nirvana radio and it drained the battery too quick so it never went above 250mw. I think it's been a problem just not too many people knew about it.

UAV Tech I have basic questions: 1.What file is to be uploaded to the R9MM? it only generated files with extension .bin and .elf. for compilation via_STlink. I have F4 on emuflight and NV14 nirvana, I have to do it with frsky STK s.port tool.

Definitely do it!! I flashed my R9 gear yesterday (R9M 2019 and R9MM). Super easy but go back to the bootloader vids first and get those flashed on. I spent more time wiring/soldering the RX than I did configuring/flashing.

Hello, thank you very much for all your videos which otherwise would not have allowed me to understand things to make a good PID adjustment. I followed your advice and started with one of your presets, (for a 6 inch 4s (alien) and a 5 inch 6s (diatone roma f5) and I managed to adjust them really well by moving the sliders a bit, and VOILA! unfortunately there is a little delay at the blackbox, (so a little delay in everything, but I frankly don't realize it .. and I am in crosfire ..) but they fly wonderfully well, and I thank you again for your work on betaflight, and your very good explanations. ;)

For anyone concerned when you get to flashing your RX with passthrough and it IS powered by the USB, I just plugged the FC in and ran the BUILD AND FLASH and it worked fine.

Quick question if you don’t mind, I now there’s a resistor mod needed for the older r9m modules to run at the highest rates, but is there any modifications necessary for my frsky qx7? I see something about a Tbs board but am not sure if I need that to run express lrs at the highest rates. Any help would really be appreciated, thanks.

I believe you need the "Crossfire mod", as the QX7 has been called out on the boards that give all the detailed pics of the mod. I mod'ed my X10S by using those same pages, because I was getting telemetry lost/recovered messages over and over once I flashed ELRS onto my R9M 2019 module. The Crossfire Mod works great! Take your time, keep the wires as short as possible, and you'll be fine!! Good luck.

I just finished upgrading my QX7 with R9M 2018 and Slim+ receiver and it worked first time thanks to your videos - much appreciated! There was quite a lot to learn, but the actual process was not too much harder than flashing regular Frsky firmware. Did you end up doing the resistor mod to your Accst R9M for 400k baudrate? Would I need to do that and the QX7/TBS mod to get 400k? What is the downside of 115k v 400k?

Sounds like the Flight Controller is dead. If no lights on the FC when battery or USB, it is dead. Replace the FC.

I have so many questions... I was hoping to find a full overview of ExpressLRS. I currently have Crossfire and I'm feeling the delay of the DJI video, so I want to reduce latency on the rx. I saw this hit 250hrtz with crazy range so I just bought an (R9? I think, with fan mod and ExpressLRS firmware installed. I'm wondering if I messed up and needed a 2.4 system to reduce latency. Some things I see make me think it can do 2.4 and 900 because of the "Lora chip" or something. That term lora seems to be used anytime the conversation gets confusing. I'll dig through your videos in the hopes I can piece it together. Also not sure what receivers to get. Thank you. Just started really digging into your content. Hello. I tried to flash through st-link, I don’t know whether it was flashed or not. From the box, when power was supplied to it, the module simply glowed red, and when I brought it closer to the computer speakers, a low-frequency hum was heard. After flashing, when power is applied, the module plays a melody and the indicator lights up green, but there is complete silence in the speakers. How can I check, I just haven't bought the receiver yet.

Starting the ELRS adventure. In the latest Configurator (v0.3.5) they removed R9M UNLOCK HIGHER POWER option. Hopefully, it's now defaulted to always enabled. Also, I already upgraded last month to OTX 2.3.11, which in the release notes it states that support added to flash ELRS modules. Do I need to revert back to 2.3.10 special version listed in your video, Mark?

Mark, I followed your videos (incl the previous ones about flashing the bootloaders) and I must say.....it went off without a hitch. Well, all except the error I received when trying to flash the R9MM via BF Passsthru. I had opened BF configurator, to set my ports up correctly, and inadvertently left it running. When the ELRS configurator went to sniff out the RX, it errored out. Once I closed BF, all happy now.:) Thanks for the great videos. Can't wait to get home and get that quad in the air and see how it flies on super-low latency.

Got my R9M flashed, resistor and fan modded, flashed the bootloader on to a R9MX using my T16, wired up to a spare FC and battery, it connects through passthrough but fails the write. Can I just flash it with a servo lead and the TX like the bootloader? I don't care about going back to R9.

Does changing the telemetry ratio increase and decrease the rate of the latency spikes? Or are the latency spikes purely caused by the link sync pulse?

ELRS uses the Xfire protocol. So use Crossfire setting in OpenTX.

This is due to the "r9m_elrs_bl.frk" file not being flashed to the external module first. Since UAVTech already had done this he left it out of the video. The actual directions github.com/ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS/wiki/Flashing-R9M-TX call this out.

Where are only 14 telemetry strings without GPS telemetry and elso I catching failsafe in the radius 50 centimeters after 5 minutes. This typically means that the file you are trying to flash is corrupt/invalid. Make sure that you download the r9m_elrs_bl.frk file (14 KB) from here: github.com/ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS/blob/master-dev/src/bootloader/r9m_elrs_bl.frk If you try to download the file by right-clicking the link listed in step 2 here github.com/ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS/wiki/Flashing-R9M-TX rather than clicking that link which takes you to the GitHub page, you will get a 109 KB file that when trying to flash will give you the NoSync error.

Wow stop for 6 months and it's all new again. I've used crossfire on my QX7 before(I've done the mod) I bought happy model express lrs 900mhz. Do I have to flash the QX7? Edit: I know I have to, since I put 2.2.4 open tx I have an sd card warning, any advice? I live in the country where internet isn't available, so I have to go to a friend's, or to public internet. Will the happy model module, and Rx also need to be flashed, I just bought them, and I'm not sure how their shipped. Thank you.

I have flashed my modded qx7 and r9m, also modded. R9 mini on nano talon. Ok only get 10 SENSORS discovered. Inav lua scritp seems to be waiting for data, bu doesn't get any. Aby pointers ? Edit: couple od adjustments in INAV configurator, new Inav lua 1.7.4 and it's all working fine. 23 sensors discovered. Sweet.

Yep. Because it is part of the module. So if you flash two tx modules with the same firmware, they are both bound to the same rx 🙂

I found a bug with elrs. If you run your armimg switch opposite of how most people do, meaning armed is away from you and disarmed is toward you, elrs doesnt like that and it will not initialize and you will just get the red light on for 3 sec, off for 3 sec

ExpressLRS go through an external module so as far you have a bay and a compatible module, you can run it

@@rodrigokavazuro6012 I haven't had failsafe's yet. Mostly flying in parks, bando's etc, so i really can't talk about range as i stay within 1-2KM range. I don't have the x-lite radio though(i have the x9 lite), but the r9m lite module works WAY better with expresslrs then with the original firmware

Why can't you just power the receiver immediately when flashing with betaflight passthrough?

I think you can, if your bind button works. But mine, and many other R9mm's, are broke.

@@uavtech i fiugured it out. i had to flash the r9m_elrs_bl.frk to ext module first before i flashed my build from the configurator.

@@uavtech sorted was using sbus with sport on a soft serial, just switched over in receiver plug to tx rx position and did pass through! Beautiful! I, m using inav too and telemetry not so bad either 😜

Actually, if you just dump the files on the transmitter you can flash straight from the file browser. Plug in the receiver, flash it. Plug in the transmitter, flash it. Done. But I get it, VSCode or any other "programming" environment is scary for the average Joe :)

Well, you can put the firmware for the ExpressLRS TX module and RX on the transmitter and flash them in the module bay using the "flash external module" option from the file browser.

Hi Guys! I need your help. I have a QX7 Radio with R9 2019 and a R9 2018 module as well. I am using a matek722SE as an FC and I have an R9 mini. SBUS working / F.Port working / Smart port working. But I can not get the receiver to enter the bootloader mode &@##& with passtrough. The receiver is flashable with my tx and it doing its job. Does anyone has a similar issue? What am I doing wrong?

What would have happened if FrSky hat skipped Access and ACCSTv2 and had stayed the opensource route. If they would have been the first who builtin ExpressLRS into their Transmitters than they still would be the leading elephant. Even if they are more expensive - the Gear Akquisition Syndrome of many people would habe bought the First Implementation of new stuff.

The bootloader overlay, yes. But after that, use pass-thru for the firmware.
