My family (2 other sisters) did the same thing but I only wanted 3 things. When I told them that I wanted my mother’s Bible, her diamond cross necklace that my father gave her and she wore every day until my father died and her gold bangle bracelet that I remember her wearing often when I was a child. They gave them to me and split the rest. I still feel like I got the best part of that deal.

The eldest grandson. I also happen to collect exquisite time pieces, so this was very fitting. That clock sat at his front door for about 25 years, first thing u saw when you walked into their house, so it means the world to have it where it belongs.

A beautiful, absolutely gorgeous object of virtue; a booklet containing interpretations of their known history from 1840; as a candlelight ‘show and tell’ after-dinner entertainment, the reading of every word on every page, would leave those in attendance breathless with anticipation to hear more and more about their world; I remember when BBC Antiques Roadshow appraised the tiniest of booklets containing entire complete plays of Shakespeare, the reading of the contents in this ‘Exquisite’ 180-Year-Old Miniature Gold Almanac could take quite some time-probably one of the best of times.

Everyone always has different experiences with heirlooms. Things that mean everything to you might be negligible to a sibling or cousin. When my grandmother passed away I really only wanted two things. The cookbook we so often used together and her vintage ice cream scoop, both are still regularly used. My 7yo daughter helps me bake from the same cookbook. To me heirlooms are more than the sum of their monetary value, they represent a continuing legacy of love and familial traditions.

Why is he handling the pages without gloves. That set my teeth on edge!
@pamelaspooner71832 ай бұрын
With something so tiny, gloves are not as easily used to turn those tiny pages….they make your fingers lose sensitivity and could catch on the corners or edges and do damage. Put on a pair of gloves and test your dexterity….its a good experiment.

My thoughts as well. “Why is he touching 200 year old paper?” The gold would hold up better, but he shouldn’t be handling that carelessly either.
@leviackerman8945Ай бұрын
I may be wrong, but I think there is a line of thought that there is less sensitivity in the hands when gloved (leading to damages happening a bit easier in these cases) so this may be why he didn't. I hope this helps! 😊
