Thank you for 27 minutes of your time. I hope you enjoy this restoration as much as I enjoyed working on it. I would also like to thank you for your comments, whether positive or negative. To everyone who is of the opinion that this watch should not have been restored due to its history: I in no way want to honor the events of this era with this video. I restore watches of all ages and origins. This watch has not committed any crimes and will not do so even after restoration. History is history no matter whether good or bad - The easiest way to repeat history is to forget it.

The fact that it still runs even before the restoration is a testament to JLC’s movements and watchmaking. I have 2 of them, and I will never get rid of them. They are an underrated, phenomenal brand.

Just a matter of taste, I’d have kept the old, worn down crown. It tells the story of how old the watch is and how heavily it’s been used, statement of its long service and reliability to its owner. But in terms of craftsmanship and accuracy I understand why it was exchanged.

This episode illustrates the definition of RESTORE. Very skilled techniques were demonstrated throughout. I've watched many channels of watch repair/restore. I have never seen a radium contaminated dial corrected in that manner. This 80+ year old LeCoultre breathes again. The strap withstanding, you have resurrected this WWII relic for today's generation to see and learn about the inner practice to condition the youth of Germany to blindly compete for that regime. Thank you for posting!
@MotoMUSEUM

the watch is ruined and without value for a collector. this is the definition of how NOT TO RESTORE!
@SlCKB0Y-sb1kg
@SlCKB0Y-sb1kg Ай бұрын
@@MotoMUSEUMWhat a load of horseshit. This easily falls within the bounds of a sympathetic restoration. The only person this might be “ruined” for is a collector of pseudo nazi memorabilia. To someone who actually wants to WEAR this watch, it was done to perfection. The very small majority of people like you, who arrogantly decide to what extent something can be restored need to recognise that this is simply YOUR OPINION. If you think an 80 year old JLC restored to what is wearable condition for another 80 years (if cared for properly) is worth zero then you don’t know shit about watches. Worn, you know? Used as intended, not stuck in a watch box, behind glass or in a safe where you’d no doubt stick it.
@MotoMUSEUM
@MotoMUSEUM Ай бұрын
@@SlCKB0Y-sb1kg it is clear you have 0 knowledge of criteria for restoration . the formal ones (unesco, and other charts and principles). Furthermore adding the "nazi" bit makes you look just overall ignorant. Even taking down "markings" it's still a "nazi" watch. Denying the past prevents you from learning from it...

I have watched quite a few of your restoration videos. What I particularly like is after the work is completed, these rare, often very expensive watches, look more life like than when they were new and machine perfect. Making them far more desirable as a potential secondhand purchase.

There is so much to say about this. First of all the appreciation of the craftsmanship, that it was possible to build a watch like this so long (and long before that) with the tools and technology they had available. I don’t think a lot of people can comprehend that (I can’t). And also of course your craftmanship, knowledge, patience and all the amazing tools both modern and old. If it was my personal watch I think I would have left the patina as it was in memory of the man/men who wore this watch. I bet in has been through some hard times. I would also have used a leather strap, seems more fitting. Amazing work nevertheless 👏

My JLC was marketed in the US as LeCoultre and dates to 1943, so had to watch this. Amazing what the Swiss were doing while the rest of us were killing each other. My collecting bias aside, I'd wear this watch. You did a fantastic job.
