Also many teams are very different from one game to the other. Australia gave France and Ireland, the two best teams of the moment, a very hard fight, but they also lost to Italy who's much weaker. Wales and England are inconsistent and New Zealand has been up and down too. Many teams have the ability to place high but could also suffer an early exit.

@@sanatanadharma7208 South Africa and England were only the 4th and 5th best teams at the end of 2018. Then they made the final. A lot can change in a year of international rugby.

I laughed loud when the crowd chanted "Toulousaine, Toulousaine" after Jelonch's try and "Toulouse, Toulouse" after Ramos' conversion. Even with all the injured and suspended, ST still have a contingent in the France XV.

Wait, that wasn't a try by the French 13? That looks like a try to me.. ball touch inside first before touching the white line.. If the ref gave an on field try tmo, then their Must have clear evidence of no try to disallow it..

I'm going to sound a little harsh, but this Japanese team seems to have regressed since 2019. They've lost all their games against tier 1 sides since the world cup, including 2 games against a C-side France this summer. It's not all doom and gloom but given their impressive upwards trajectory from 2012 to 2019, it seems like this Japanese team has lost part of its mojo. Would love to get some Japanese insights on that.

It's not harsh, it's fact. But I think some of the reasons are that no one underestimates them anymore and that in 2019 they had the longest training camp in human history to prepare for the RWC. (In 2020 Los Pumas spent a really long time together because of covid-19 and then looked really strong in TRC.) Also they changed some personnel since 2019: Yu Tamura is out; one of their star wingers - Kenki Fukuoka - retired from rugby to become a doctor; their other star winger - Matsushima - is playing but is out of form since a long stint on the sidelines; influential lock Thompson is out; my favourite Brave Blossom the legend Shota Horie is also out. The Japanese league is really good nowadays and the national team will have a strong pool of players to select from.

@@nikolakozhuharov1042 I knew for Fukuoka, didnt realize how deep the changes had been otherwise. I'll also add that Japan has barely played competitive tier 1 rugby since 2019 partly due to covid, that certainly didnt help

They lost a lot of players yes. But they also added a lot of fresh names and new talent, they are definitely in a slump but they are still providing somewhat competition against T1 sides. I reckon they are currently around the level of georgia, italy and fiji now. But rn there still experimenting with the squad.

You're right, but Nikola was also right - I think tier 1 nations treat Japan with much more caution now. Also, this same side almost beat the All blacks a few weeks in Japan and a few of their other matches were close. I think the point is that Japan is not the minnow it used to be, it's now a consistently good side that has the power to surprise at times. Sure theres areas where it needs improvement, but getting to a point of being consistently competitive against Tier 1 sides is a HUGE step from what Japan was 10+ years ago

@@sirfrancis6058 true and I think the answer to that is for SANZAAR to include them in TRC (as well as Fiji). And maybe come up with some form of Pacific comp that has Japanese teams involved - be it clubs like Sungoliath, Wild Knights or franchizes like Sunwolves who had a huge contribution to the development of the test side.

Why was Danty's try refused exactly ?

If I'm not mistaken, the ball must not touch the line, at least not first, otherwise, it is deemed out of the field. In this case, because the ball touches simultaneously the line and the grass, it is deemed as out I believe

Try refused because the TMO is slightly rigid in her mind. Killing the beauty of the game...even the ref seems perplexed by the decision. The shape of the ball is a curve and its center touches in goal before the extremity reaches the line...and TMO artificially stops the image when the whole ball is smashed both in goal and its tip on the line...calling that "simultaneous". Wrong call technically and not good for the beauty of the sport.
