Guys, I will be honest with you all. I grew up breathing baseball - I mean playing it at the park, watching the pros every night, devouring the box scores in the morning paper, studying all the strategy, the stats, the beautiful history of the Bambino, Teddy Ballgame, Jackie, all the way up to Griffey, Jeter and Chipper in my childhood. Well, I admit I have fallen away. I hate, hate some of these rule changes like the random extra inning base runners. I sigh at the expense of the games, concessions, apparel. I am mad at all the anti-dramatic strikeouts, walks, solo homers and guys not stealing bases and putting the ball in play. I’ve stopped watching a few years back, because I’ve felt they’re trying to turn baseball into something it isn’t supposed to be. Baseball is cerebral: its drama comes not from an overstimulated race against a clock, but rather from one’s imagination of the endless possibilities, the hundreds of parallel strands that just might all somehow weave together. But tonight - Samurai Japan vs. Team USA. Ohtani vs. Trout. How can you not be a romantic, my friend. What a flood of emotion: everything I have ever loved about this beautiful game. Thank you Japan 🇯🇵for your talent, teamwork, selfless play, pure class, and for your legendary hero Shohei Ohtani. Truly deserving. Thank you to 🇺🇸🇲🇽🇨🇺🇵🇷🇻🇪and all the others. @@rafaelisslaam1894 You don't seem to understand why Japan has won the WBC 3 out of 5 already. Besides, Japan were missing some of their best players and pitchers too. Japan is better than US at elemination tournament, because of their baseball style. USA won't win even if they had Cole, Scherzer with them. But, if the WBC championship game was like a 7 game World Series style, then USA will do better than Japan. In Japan, baseball is deeply rooted in the culture and played at every level, from elementary school to college. Even outside of formal teams, kids frequently play catch, and there are countless private clubs for both children and adults, as well as independent leagues. On Sunday mornings, you can see people playing in riverbed baseball grounds. This culture has matured over generations since baseball was imported to Japan about 150 years ago. They all knew the USA was the best baseball country, but dreamed of “someday…” This victory also belongs to those nameless people who have played and loved baseball. It was an absolutely great game made not only by these amazing players but also everyone who have loved this sport, most likely including you. Thank you, everyone.

Completely agree. That is why we need to grow this game even further, and MLB has an obligation to do so. For a start, we want to make all exiled players eligible to participate, so that the Cuban national team can have a full squad. We would also like to encourage the participation of ace-level pitchers from MLB teams by giving them some advantages or somehow removing the disadvantages they currently have. If we can improve on just these two points at the next tournament, this classic will grow a lot. Eventually, we want to achieve the same global spread in baseball as in football! I have already learnt my lesson from people saying that baseball is only exciting in North and Central America, the Caribbean and East Asia!

This rarely happens in tournament play, but tonight the best TEAM won. Japan earned it in every sense of the word. They played the game better than anyone else in the tournament and they got the prize. They played team baseball and they played the baseball they learned way back in Little League; solid fundamental baseball. They work hard at every phase of the game, the fight on each pitch and they don't make mistakes. What shines through most of all in the play of Samurai Japan is the team's discipline and respect for the game. As a baseball fan I find them to be an absolute joy to watch, even while they're beating my team. I think it said it all when Ohtani, as captain, went to pick up the trophy. They gave him the tournament MVP, and he accepted it gracefully, but you could tell all he really wanted was to take the winner's trophy and get it to his team to celebrate their success. Hats off to the USA for a great run and to the players who gave their time and talent to their country. There is no shame in coming up short to Samurai Japan in this instance. Baseball won big with this tournament and the right team won the tournament.

@@rafaelisslaam1894 Hopefully they will send their best pitchers next time ;-) If you support a team in the US, make sure you make it known you want to see your favorite players in the WBC. If they have enough pressure from fans, they *will* allow it. I'm sick to death of this excuse. If you lose a tournament because you refuse to send your best players, that's pretty much the crappiest way to lose. If you're going to lose, at least lose swinging. My 2 cents.

I'm embarrassed to admit that prior to this year I had no idea about the World Baseball Classic at almost 30 years old. Boy, am I glad I tuned in for these last few games of the contest. They should really do this every other year instead of every 3. I'm sure the traction among fans and players is there. On another note, what a win for Team Samurai Japan! I was hoping for a USA win, but Japan has some absolutely elite pitching arms and play such a brand of pure, oldschool ball. Speed on the bases, plate discipline, balls in play to move runners. Congrats Japan, hope we get a rematch in 2026!

Agree. David Ortiz jokingly said let's do it every year but I think every twi years allows for the expectation and the sense of urgency by the players to do it. For planning purposes 3 or 4 might be easier of course

@@acruzro95 It would also give guys so many more opportunities to be involved in a WBC. Most guys don't have a 20 year career in the pros with no statistical drop-off, so they wouldn't feel robbed of their shot to represent their countries. If a players best years are from their age 25-32 seasons, they may only get 2 shots at it at age 27 and 30(if they stay healthy that is). If it were every 2 years, they could get a shot at 26, 28, 30, and 32.
