@tederbate - It is very much "Bottoms Up!" in this short, heavily edited video showing wholesale corporal punishment of recalcitrant boys by an enthusiastic headmaster bent on saving time. Older British viewers will probably recognise the man as Jimmy Edwards, a very well-known comic actor from the 1950s onwards on radio, television and film, one of his most popular characters being the "Whack-O!", cane-wielding headmaster of an English boarding school as portrayed here.
Before embarking on a career in entertainment, Jimmy had been a World War Two RAF pilot and won the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), which is a great testament to the real person behind the humour. And the boy who turns and protests, Wendover (John Mitchell aka Mitch Mitchell), became the original drummer in the Jimi Hendrix Experience. As Jimmy Edwards famously played the trombone, did the two ever jam, one wonders? Very unlikely ! ! !
It is only fair to mention Arthur Howard, also seen here, reprising his role from the original television series "Whack-O!" as Jimmy Edwards' long-suffering sidekick, Mr. Pettigrew; Howard was the younger brother of the internationally famous (and ill-fated) film star, Leslie Howard.
