A friend of mine who was a tech reused a bearing on my cars when he replaced studs on my Integra, didn't have any issues with the bearings 3-4 years later including a few track days and autocross. He did tell me it was done at his dealership and they didn't pull the hub completely from the bearing, but just enough to get the stud in. I ended up replacing them just out of precaution and when I went with acura TL studs that are slightly longer to allow more spacer, but still allowed me to use closed end lugs. Just wanted a piece of mind because they did have over 155k on them. To note, another OEM supply of bearings are from BCA/NTN bearings. Seems like the original bearings were Koyo, but the new ones you get from the dealer are NTN. The Bearing part number is AU0907. NTN also sells rear hubs that work with the OEM and ARP sized studs as some aftermarket hubs seem to have a different stud hole size. On the spacer, look for mini cooper spacers? Those used wheel bolts and with most european cars, a lot of times they just run longer bolts. The use 4x100 bolt pattern and the same 56.1 center bore

PB Blaster is my best friend for axle nuts! A good quality 1/2in Impact Wrench will make it even eaiser. I would also recommend using a ratcheting style ball joint separator instead of that pickle fork👍It will save the rubber boots.Great job do.

Thank you for the tip! I never tried it like that because I always feel like I'm going to hurt my back, but if I do it in a squat type of way then that might be better and I'm probably stronger that way instead of pushing down. Aisha, if you didn't have to replace the ball joints on the spindles you could install those 3" extended wheel studs yourself its not really necessary to remove the whole spindle and to have the old wheel studs knock out and the new ones pressed on a vise that all can be done on the car. I installed a set of ARP wheel studs on the front of my 91 Civic EF hatch Si with a built stock LS/Vtec Motorswap years ago when i had the car. It was simple to install with no problem.
@Aisha_LadyBuilt

I’m not sure how the hub is positioned on a 91 Civic spindle, but with mine, I would have to grind off a section in order to have clearance for the stud to go in.

This is all great content and informative. I do have some questions if you can help me understand. To install spacers im under the impression you can just bolt spacers onto your existing studs and the spacers have their own studs that the wheel attaches to so there is no need for extended studs, at least for spacers over 15mm. The other question I have is, if you were just looking to replace your existing studs cant you take off your caliper and hammer out the studs without touching anything else? There should be a little notch in your knuckle that allows for one stud to come out through the back, then rotate the hub and do the next etc. Id love to know since i am looking at extending my wheel studs also but for 5mm spacers so I wont have the option to use the spacers that have their own studs.
@PT82
@PT82 3 жыл бұрын
Alot of people use wheel adaptors with their own studs. Personally for the track abuse mine gets I went extended Hardrace studs and slot on hubcentric spacers. Unfortunately there is no easy way of fitting the studs without taking it all apart. I’ve seen that it’s easier on other cars. You could take a little off the studs head to fit on the car if you wanted to bodge the job but personally I wouldn’t. If you’re only fitting 5mm spacers I wouldn’t do anything to the studs. Originals will be fine. Chances are you’ll pinch the original hub also but I’d advise hubcentric spacers.

A 5lb slide hammer and a couple of blocks of wood with a hammer is all you really need to replace the studs. Just becareful when centering the hub back onto the bearing. Edit: some deep sockets that are large enough for the studs to go through.

You're right, you don't need much tools to do the job, but the wheel bearing is the part that I like to have pressed in because they're sensitive. Years ago I had someone change my wheels bearings, they even used a press, and when I put the hubs back on the car, the wheel bearing was no good. Idk what they did wrong because I wasn't;t there to watch, but it was so disappointing. Thank you for your feedback! 🧡

Tip for saving ball joints and boots. Don't use the fork style ball joint separator. Use the type that looks like a stapler. It puts pressure on the bolt (where the nut goes) this way the boot never gets damaged. I learned this the hard way. images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51567bSZilL._AC_SX355_.jpg
