Great collab. Both these channels have helped so much. I am teaching friends and family to play disc golf and the marvel at how smooth I am throwing. It is all because of these two channels. And I am happy I can pass on that information to my family and friends so they can not only throw better but do so with less impact and injury to their bodies. Keep up the awesome content

Hey Beni, thanks so much for saying that, and I'm so glad and encouraged to hear that you're growing the sport and teaching people, and if we helped in that at all, that's the best thing I've ever heard. You sound like a cool dude, and I hope that we can continue to grow the sport together!!

I was actually just explaining this to my buddy last week (specifically from 5:50-6:46 timestamp). This way it prevents you from "hugging yourself" aka rounding (courtesy of seabas22). Rounding then is what results for the disc to come out on a tangential curve, and accuracy only comes from releasing it properly... which causes inconsistency. Once the rounding gets fixed, you will see your shots will go wherever you aligned your body as well as proper form.biomechanics. Good video!

Watched this video and a bunch of your vlogsmas videos back in December and my form has definitely gone up a notch. I've only been able to practice and play a little bit the past few months but I can tell I have already improved with my power and consistency. I am looking forward to what I can do this year once I get some more time to dial things in. Your form videos are some of the very best, thanks a lot!

Everyone should start their day by waking up and not reaching back, but extending. That's a life lesson if I've ever heard them.
@Robotron2084Guide2 жыл бұрын
Watched your vid. Pretty good presentation style. With the "extension" topic, here is some cause and effect to think about- The arm is residual to the shoulder movement. The body in balancing/counter-balancing itself is actually tilting the shoulders back in sequenced proportion to the leg striding out. The arm "extending" is part of the counter-balance aspect. The hips don't "explode open" as they are a rotational joint, not a muscle. Instead, it is like walking in that they stay out of way to help connect the powerful muscles of legs and torso to build the throw power. Thanks for continuing to progress and hone the backhand presentation. Happy discing.

Thanks for that comment, I’ll think about that next time I’m throwing! Thanks for watching!

Working on your standstill will absolutely increase max distance. There's guys throwing 500 foot standstill. On top of that, Danny did a video on how much distance you can expect a run up to add. If I recall correctly pros were able to get 85 percent of their max distance from a standstill.

its keeping the 90degree angle as you coil then ONLY using forearm to straighten arm no shoulder etc. then uncoil with vertical spine keeping 90degree and arm should collapse in on itself and you whip it out keeping the 90 degree arm and vertical spine! This video helped

Now I really have to do some field work and practice that major key point. More of reaching out instead of back. More of a V shape instead of a straight line. If I understood that correctly. I've heard people say similar stuff but this video really made that click in my mind.

Ben, ( long time lister first time caller ) Thank you for all the videos. Theyre both extremely helpful and entertaining. Regarding this session with Coach T, were you able to work this method into your throw? Did it add value? One last question and ill hang up and listen to your answer. When is the next video coming out?

Hooahhh!!! I appreciate the call, and thanks so much for the support!! I’ve definitely been working this into my throw, it’s one of those things that is a really big change that takes a lot of practice, but I’m definitely getting there. And it’s definitely been helping!! And on your second thing, TODAY BABY, check it out!!

If I could change one thing about the sport of disc golf, it would be to eliminate the word throw. As soon as people think about "throwing" it automatically invites all kinds of bad habits. Great collab!

It is a super counterintuitive motion and really does have little to do "throwing". Good point!

I'm kind of surprised he didn't mention your left arm, one of his most important teaching keys. Notice how Drew has his pointed forward ready to engage his body while yours is pulled back? Working on that after seeing it on his channel has helped me a lot in getting through the throw into a better finish and generating more speed.

One of the things I'm struggling with is the release point. Do I pivot around my elbow? Or do I lead with my elbow far In front of me? I hope that makes sense.

Was the image on the right a standstill or was he doing a run up? That could also be a huge difference
@themusketeer94582 жыл бұрын
So i figured this out by myself, to reach out, not back, basically just extend the elbow. My problem is if i try to slingshot, how can i go from "out" in the reachback, to "in" in the powerpocket?
@gagethemage92602 жыл бұрын
This video really made something click for me. When I heard tricep extension I was like "wait that's basically a bench press I can do that!". Now I'm getting my midrange almost 300 feet
@Solami9872 жыл бұрын
Well I came here saying I was confused at first, but I tried to put into practice this spacing that everybody talks about, and what I found is I'm getting some kind of snap now by trying to leave the disc in front of me as I start to pull forward which means you barely pull back. It feels more effortless like there's a lot of air between the disc and my body
@BensBigDrive2 жыл бұрын
That’s right, giving some space to let the disc come through will make it a lot easier! Thanks for watching!!

I've been watching some of the overthrow content, and I've gotta say Josh really tries to recreate *all* aspects of the slow-mo throws. And as my furthest throws only go ~370 feet, I was hoping my effort in following Josh's advise would bring some visible progression in distance. However Josh's reviews made it hard for me to know what to focus on, as he will spend many minutes focusing on any given aspect of a throw (and very mechanical at that i.e. at this moment move your left hand, then 0.2 seconds later start moving your hips), and when I for example place my foot on a slightly different angle I am not surprised to find that my distance is not any higher. This video I think manages to show me where I actually have a major flaw that is majorly holding back my distance and I like the attitude coach T brings, where he understands everyone's final form will look a bit different and it is important to focus on key aspects

Hey Lucas, those scars are from the friction between my arm and the air when I throw because it is going so fast. I might have to get that turf tape NFL players wear because it is becoming a problem. Thank you for your concern.

Seabass22 had been critical of coach T Everytime he is brought up. He "squashes the bug" which is incorrect and he accelerates the wrist faster than the disc, which is why his wrist motion looks weird, which seabass says is incorrect and asking for an injury.

i don't think there are any absolute authorities on discgolf form
@RickRobichaudDG2 жыл бұрын
I do not remember Coach T teaching to accelerate the wrist faster than the disc - maybe I am misremembering? I like, appreciate, and respect Seabass22 for everything he has contributed to the disc golf world. I think he has helped many players with their disc golf craft. At the same time, there is something about the way he teaches that does not click with me. I find his videos lacking that "ah-ha!" moment (for me). On the flip side, I find Big Ben, Coach T, Overthrow content very digestible and easier to understand.
@HyzerFlip2 жыл бұрын
@@RickRobichaudDG Out of the disc golf teachers online, I'd say seabas has the best information with the worst presentation. It's really clear he knows what he's talking about, but he doesn't have the teaching skills to make it relatable like OT, BBD, or SDG. I wish I could use his videos more, but they just don't work for me, like you said.
