Thanks for the tutorial man! I'm trying to upgrade our podcast setup, I'm getting an A7III soon and will be using this method to record longer than the 30 minute limit the camera has. 👍

Thanks for the video, it's been very helpful! I'll be getting a 4K capture card soon. I was wondering, to record 4k video using OBS, I guessing you need to use setting both in the software and A7iii, correct? Thanks in advance!

Hello. The exposure settings are set on the camera, video quality is set with the OBS. Cheers!

Hi Miro thank you for the video. I have followed your set up and tested it but my video quality seems low and wonder what I could be doing wrong. Do you provide help with troubleshooting? I have A7iii connected to my laptop using Camlink 4k. Using OBS to record, I have settings saved to match yours though my OBS seems newer version than yours.

Hello! Under output I have the Indistinguishable quality, under Video I have the 4k resolution - same as camera; if the capture card can transfer 4k and same fps as camera, under Advanced I have the rednder on Direct3D 11, color format is NV12 for 8bit and P010 for HLG camera settings, color space is Rec.709 for normal 8bit and BT 2100 HLG for HLG camera settings, color range is full, 300 nits SDR and 1000 nits for HDR peal level, under the capture card settings I have the default color space for normal 8bit and BT 2100 for HLG and color range full. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi there, thanks for the tips! I got a question: would it be possible to set up 3 different Sony A7iii to the same PC using the same capture card? Thanks in advance
@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens6 ай бұрын
Hello. Not sure. There's only one input for the camera. Maybe with 3 capture cards. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Hi Miro, apologies for being back again. I'm just testing this solution following your instructions but I see the Sony A7iii is getting quite hot, although I'm using a dummy battery just in case. I thought it would remain cooler as the recording is being made by the PC via the capture card. Do you know if I'm doing something wrong or is this normal? I'm happy because this way I'm able to avoid the 30-minute recording limit but I'm afraid it might stop recording because of high temperature inside the camera. Big thanks in advance for your feedback!
@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens6 ай бұрын
@pablorodriguez6336 4k makes the camera hot regardless of where you record. It's the same on the a7IV. Maybe set the overheating limit to high. Cheers!

Very helpful video, I am just facing this one issue, I am able to view the video on my laptop but I am not able to save the video on my laptop. I get a notification saying ' Recorded video will be saved on the memory card'. I need it to be saved on my laptop. What changes are needed? This has happened on both, MacBook and Windows.

Hello I use the OBS screen recording software to record the screen of my computer. The software is free and very powerful. Also set the HDMI setting to HDMI only on the camera. This way you will get a clean video and audio signal comming from the camera to your computer. You then record with the software and not the camera. I hope this helps. Cheers!

Hello. Yes, that works as well. Although if you have a newer camera, you don't need a capture card anymore. You just connect the camera via USB-C to your computer, and it will work. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Is the quality the same when I record to OBS as if I were recording on the camera to an SD card?
@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens Жыл бұрын
Hello. You can set the settings to lossless but the files will be very big. Also the colour space is going to be transformed. Max size can be bt2100 so keep that in mind if you want to use any flat log gamma image profiles. It's not the same as in camera, it's different. I hope this makes sense 😉. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Hello. No you can not directly record on to an SSD but you can record through a computer to an external SSD. It would be nice if you could just plug in an SSD to the camera though. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
