The video is concise and well put together. Well done friend. I do want to point out that I'm having 0 success though. I downloaded the software with the ILCE-7SM3 driver for my a7Siii and plugged in several USB-C cables. Testing on discord I get a black/no screen, while on OBS it doesn't even recognise the cam as a device. PC remote is set to USB and detected on the cam. Smartphone Control is off. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong at this point. Any tips?

hey not sure you will see this since this video is 3 years old but I've been using my Sony A6300 as my webcam for over a year now with no problem, but I just updated my MacOS, and I no longer see the option to select my Sony as my webcam when I launch a Zoom meeting. Hoping you can help me out. MacOS is up to date, so is Zoom, and Image Edge is also up to date. I uninstalled then re-installed it. Still no luck.

I did too after 3 restarts and 3 uninstallations it finally started working oh and try different usb ports in your computer after each restart a lot of trouble shooting ended up working at the end but following all the instructions on sony beforehand

I'm currently using my A7siii as a webcam with my 35mm f/1.8 and its killer compared to using my Panasonic GH5. That eye autofocus is great while I'm moving around. That being said, I still use the HDMI out for it going into an ATEM Mini with a separate mic so I can get it closer to me on my desk. So a MUCH more complicated setup, but dropping the Sony camera in was a really easy switch to do for a huge upgrade in quality.

Using an a6400 with a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 you can not use the eye autofocus when in USB mode or when HDMI out is connected

Hi Scott! I am attempting to use this for Zoom (and updated my Zoom not even 5 minutes ago); restarted after the software installation; and this is still not working. I found some advice online that said try different cables, did that, didn't work; and someone else said try switching through the modes from Auto to Movie, and I tried switching through and starting from all of them, and no luck :( :( :(

I’m having a latency issue or framing. I’m recording at 24fps and I have my shutter speed at 1/50 double frame rate rule but I feel like when I talk it’s lagging behind and isn’t as smooth like guttering. Same problem. Zoom or other software will just show the Imaging Edge Webcam logo but not image from the camera. I’m gonna try to uninstall en reinstall, see if that fixes anything.

I have the A7iii, not the A7Siii. Everyone keeps giving the same step-by-step for what menu items to select for PC Remote Function and PC Remote Cnct Method, but I don't have EITHER of those in my menu. The closest I have is PC Remote Settings, which only includes two menu items: "Still Img. Save Dect" (options are "PC Only" or "PC+Camera") and RAW+J PC Save Img, which is grayed out. HELP! I've tried SO many tutorials and I'm beginning to think the A7iii is just unconnectable.

I have a question about the Sony Camera Driver. After watching this video I realized that there is no program to open and this just works. That was great info to give. Is the Sony Driver the same way. I have a M1 Mac and I downloaded the program but it never asked me to restart. Now the Sony System Software Updater keeps closing as soon as open it and approve for the program make changes. Does the Camera Driver work with M1 Macs? Please help.

I have my temperature setting at High so I was surprised this happened. This is the second time I have had this issue and only when using the USB connection. So we have been using the Imaging Edge Webcam software on a MacBook for some time now (with a Sony a6400) and I can not at all say that it is a great idea to use this if you mainly want to improve your live video appearance compared to a webcam such as the Logitech StreamCam, if you intend to have long sessions. Firstly, the resolution is only 1.024 × 576px. Further, the camera overheats after about 90 minutes and also the usb charging seems not to be able to keep the battery charged as it died from an exhausted battery after about 100 minutes on a separate occasion. For our purposes, we now switched to a Logitech StreamCam which can stream for at least 3 hours. I wonder how you got the 4K resolution since the 1.024 × 576 resolution is what is stated in the guidelines for the software. Care to enlighten us?

@@williamgrismore No, but a camlink is as simple as it gets. You can plug anything that has HDMI into the camlink, and the camlink shows up as a video source for any application you want to use, and viola, no issues. It's great.

I am trying to do the same thing with OBS with an A7R3 and have been looking for hours, found some info... Sounds like this Sony Webcam software approach tops out at 1080p but is free. Sony Edge is also free. The resolution seems less than 4K, but I will double-check since it is free. - Elgato Cam link (PC or Mac) says it can do 4K 30 fps < $100 (check your cable connections) I think it would work with my existing a7R3 cable. I think going higher to 4K 60 fps for nice on 4K monitors maxes out usb type connections so then I am looking at Thunderbolt options, - AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt: Thunderbolt 3 for 4K 60 fps (PC only) ~ $300

The Sony doesn’t have a 30 minute record limit.

Record limits are also only for recording. When it’s plugged into your computer, it’s not recording. It’s simply ON

When I connect my camera (A7iii) to the computer, it just stays on the “Connecting” screen on the camera. If I open Imaging Edge, I get a video connection, but when I open Zoom, it does not show up as an option.

Download “imaging edge webcam” not “imaging edge desktop”. Like the video states, there is no app to open for “webcam”, it just integrates with zoom, teams, etc.

Sorry, a question for everyone, if you use a camera as webcam, coud you incurr in overheating problems or run out of space in the ssd? Does the camera write somewhere when used as webcam?

You can use Elgato cam link you know it also runs in 4k and 60 fps
