Thanks! But how about time in status export from Azure Dev Ops (ADO)?

Awesome, exactly the method I use! Also, kudo's for navigating the complexity that is Jira configuration, can be a real mind bender!😁One tip I'll add is there's an option that says "Allow this rule to be triggered by other rules", I think it's under More Options. Consider turning that on if you have other automations that move things to Done (or to In Progress) or your automation won't fire.

Cool 😎 and thank you 🙏👍 yes it can get a little complicated going through Jira config 🤣 and thanks for the tip 👌

I recently discovered your videos and it's been nothing short of ACE! ... Question: How do you move on to the next phase of using the Monte Carlo method of forecasting with the data gathered here seeing that one important data missing is "the number of items completed per date"

That I was looking for! Thank you! One question: what plugin for Excel do you use to import the data? I have on-premise Jira installation and I'm not sure that cloud plugins will work for me. P.S. Dashboardssss yyyeeeesssss!
@TheAgileLeanGardener10 ай бұрын
You are very welcome 🙏👍 it’s a plug in within Jira, you click it from the export issues tab but it’s possible it’s disabled on a work installation but even if it’s there it may not work as you have to authenticate it with Excel.

@@TheAgileLeanGardener, one more question: If the task was handled for five days, but two of those days were on the weekend, how do you subtract them?
@TheAgileLeanGardener10 ай бұрын
You don’t. It’s a mistake to remove weekends, the forecast is more accurate when you don’t subtract anything. It sounds counter intuitive but it’s true. The only time you need to have a re-think is when there are major changes, for example, more than half the team change. If you really want to remove weekends then you can do it easily in Excel, one of my earlier videos shows you how here kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZaYq4Sdbtl5pqssi=yQw7mfDo0vNTs_XA

Thanks for taking the time to present an efficient solution! Just a qq does this work for tickets already in in progress, tickets that I have moved myself after applying the rule it has worked but for tickets that were already there will this appear as well. Or do I just need to wait a bit for the automation to work :)
@TheAgileLeanGardener10 ай бұрын
Hi, no, this method will only work for items that have not yet passed through the workflow. To get historical data you’d need to use something like Time in Status or eazyBI 🙏👍

@rommelbandeira after creating the automation the custom fields updates fine when the status is "In Progress". If I change the status back to "To do", is it possible to clear the CT start date field to show as empty or no value in it?
@TheAgileLeanGardener9 ай бұрын
Hi, well to do that you’d have to create another Jira automation rule to clear the CT Start custom field if an item transitioned from In Progress to To Do. But I’ve set it the way I have done so that it’s less easy to ‘game’ the system. If an item moves from To Do to In Progress then the cycle time has started so you shouldn’t reset it. I assume you mean if it’s done by mistake. Alternatively you could get the Jira admin to reset the CT Start custom field, it’s a bit more hassle but you could make it the job of whoever moved an item by mistake to In Progress to get this sorted to try and discourage these mistakes and to take more care.

You seem to not know about the CONTROL CHART - which is the ultimate information radiator in JIRA, and is the ultimate cycle time tool.
@TheAgileLeanGardener10 ай бұрын
Hi, yes I’m aware of Jira’s control chart, but I’m sorry to say that it’s nonsense. I could do an entire video on it, perhaps I will. But the control charts use things like standard deviation and it is a false assumption that we are dealing with normally distributed data plus it’s heavily influenced by outliers. They also use averages, never use an average, read The Flaw of Averages by Sam Savage. The most likely outcome is not very likely. The way to go is to use percentiles.

@rommelbandeira Will it work for "Team-Managed" project template?

Hi, that’s a good question and I’m not sure. This was done on a company managed project template but give it a go and see 👍
@richardbobs9 ай бұрын
@@TheAgileLeanGardener It does not work as you have showed in this video for Team managed project template but at one step when you have to associate an issue operation with a screen in teams template, we have to go to settings > issues > screen schemes > associate an issue operation with a screen
