Very good video. But can I give you some advise. Don't powder the converter. Also you need to let the reaction sit for at least a week before extracting metals with that method. I've found that AR works the best for quicker extraction, than you can boil it up to 4 hours

Great information, Thanks, filtration was a real pain ! Just a quick reminder on AR, (In case of Rhodium metal) you won't be able to get 100 percent yield. But not very common PM

Yes impregnated ceramic matrix... Around 0.8-1 g per kg Pd 0.02-0.2 g per kg Pt And 0-0.05 g per kg Rh Is typical... Usually they only contain Pd specially in truck ones...

Top reactors are stainless steel pieces coated inside with Tantallum ( too expensive to make the whole reactor, but as stable as PTFE and much more resistant to high temperature

Thanks, Yes i wash them in a jar and keep them in a 1.5 liters soda bottle when i had enough i add some bleach to dissolve colloidal metals, then i add zinc to cement them all, afterwards i filter and process them. You need to forget about it for some time , just collect.

Rhodium is applied on a large scale in automobile catalysts. Note that Rhodium reacts vigorously with alkalis, so I think what you can do is put the residue from the reaction with nitric acid in bleach, dry and calcine, to see if the pink color of Rhodium Chloride appears.

Yes, if present, it would be dissolved by chlorine gas produced in this method.

But how would it change steps? Is it dissolved by nitric acid or aqua regia? How should I separate it from Pt and Pd? Also is there some lead contamination? Should I use copper to precipitate PGMs and leave lead dissolved?

It would be dissolved in HCl + bleach mix to form rhodium chloride. You can't dissolve it in aqua regia. Then cement all metals with zinc and first treat with nitric acid to dissolve lead and palladium (you can precipitate it with DMG or ammonia like i did in this video) Treat remaining metals from nitric with aqua regia platinum would get dissolved and rhodium remain pure enough as sediment. Then percipitate platinum from aqua regia with some ammonium chloride.

Chemicals are cheap like 3$ for 20 liters of HCl and 30$ for 20 liters of HNO3 And bleach almost costs 1.5$ for 20 liters

A high mileage newer model would. The pgms are used up or expelled via exhaust as the car is driven. Cody's Lab did a PM recovery from road dust from a busy highway 🛣 😅 the replacement cats are also low on pgms. Ideal ones are older, low mileage, European 🇪🇺 cars. Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, etc.
