As someone who work with THC and cannabis concentrate for a living, I fully appreciate how well you emphasize the safety of doing these processes. The only thing I would add or do differently is put the dissolved solution into the freezer for about a day. That would remove the fats and lipids from the results, which are causing that cloudiness. You would end up with what looks basically like distillate, rather than oil.

I've done a simpler method of simply swishing all the carts in grain alcohol, letting it evaporate in the sun or by a heat vent, then pour it back into an empty cart. About 32 or so empties to fill one back up, and the taste was actually decent.

Jesus, dude. Please don't. The oil at the bottom of these carts is highly toxic. The bulk of the vape solution is perfectly fine but as the cart gets down to the last bit, the ratio of heavy metals to inhaled vape solution goes up drastically due to repeatedly heating the coil with such a low quantity of solution passing through the atomizer. You are extracting that mixture en masse.

Great video, very instructive! Thank you for including the warning on ventilation when cooking down the alcohol. I think i'm lucky to be alive and can confirm the danger of skipping ventilation. I must have been high when i decided to make some RSO. Had everything set up (but somehow didn't open any windows, stupidity is my only explanation) but the last thing i remember was turning on the stove timer. I woke up half on my couch, half on the floor FIVE HOURS LATER. Went to the kitchen and the glass container was shattered, everything burnt to a crisp, the pan was ruined...I don't remember if smoke detectors or any alarms were going off but I learned i better not ever do anything that stupid again unless i follow all the required steps. I'm all for saving money but I would definitely be more careful if i try that again. I have tried many ways to enjoy thc and now make my own healthy oatmeal cookies (cannabutter) or buy gummies when they're on special.

I know you shouldn't, but 99.9% rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol was pretty much the standard for making a cheap low-grade green oil. The bikers in Canada would do this back in the late 70's through to the 90's. I'm sure for centuries before that they used some sort of liquid to breakdown the oils and waxes then evaporate the liquid leaving all that THC Yumminess... lol.

Hey Thank you for this video @howtoweed, but to everyone reading this at home, he obviously knows what he's doing and yes this is a great method, if you have a CRAP ton of left over carts. The easiest at home method for all of you sitting there with 1,2, or 3 carts needing the excess, just carefully hold the carts up while heating it slowly with a hair dryer, and then pour the oil out into a new cart, it will pour like water when its warmed up good. Be careful not to burn your hands though!

I knew my chemistry hobby would come in useful one day🤣. I did a vacuum distillation when I extracted the bulk of the solvent though to recover the alcohol, it's always fun when I get to bust out the glassware...

I use 100% isopropyl alcohol which seems to be a bit faster at dissolving thicker oils in my experience. A critical thing I always do though is that I pre rinse all of my carts with it before opening them up to dissolve the contents. This pre-wash reduces the carry over of contamination from the outside of the cartridges which can include skin oils, trapped dust, and other stuff you might not want to be vaping.

My process with this is doing what you did then letting the alcohol dissolve to a level where I could transfer it to a Pyrex, then left the solution sitting out for 2 days, all the alcohol dried and i was wet with a similar but darker product. Was also using rigs.

And also assuming that you are reclaiming bho anyway. Sure that’s what a lot of people smoke but this isn’t 2015 anymore. And as for purging yeah sure if you want the purest reclaimed wax go for it but you legitimately get the same exact result from baking it. And also doing it with iso. Do it how you want but to attempt to try and say that it’s unsafe if actually done in another proper method then I don’t know what to say. If you care about chemicals entering your body you literally shouldn’t be smoking anything other than the highest end solvent less wax. If you have ever smoked street wax you have smoked something fucked. Period. That’s something that everyone should accept. Same with carts.

great vid!! def got some ideas from this to improve my processes! :D also if you have a vac oven you can do it in a way doesnt winterize the product by getting everything pretty cold (to avoid shock to the glass) and use butane as the solvent (i prefer to offload it first into a cold jar from the cans and stop slightly before its empty to minimize mystery oil) follow a similar process to your minus the hotplates and stuff just let it air purge till its to a point it can go into the vac oven. ( also its super obvious and shouldnt even need to be mentioned but sadly does xD do that shit outside hahah

Please don't soak carts in solvent... yes you dissolve the concentrate, but you're also picking up solder and other metallic compounds from the atomizer assembly. At the very least test your reclaimed material - you don't want lead, arsenic or mercury in your inhalables 🤦

i use a candle warmer and justtwist the carts apart and pour the wax onto little parchment paper slips divided among each strain. takes no time at all. and less chance of explosion due to ethanol.

Quick tip. Glass dab containers: put them on a toaster oven rack so they're tilted, and roast them to get all the stuff in the corner on the bottom. Glass vape carts: heat it gently with your dab torch, just enough to melt the leftover residue on the sides down to the bottom. I thought about doing what you're talking about, but its too labor and time intensive to be a worthwhile endeavour. My method isnt as thorough, but far less time consuming, and you get most of the product available. Theres a certain point where getting that last nano my gram of delta9 just aint worth it, and fussing about it is not a healthy thing.
