Very entertaining overview. I just upgraded to new Komperdell backcountry poles barely a month ago, but now I realize that I can‘t live another day without a pair of les batons d‘Alain! 😂

The production style is next level. Also liked the mullet nostalgia with Blake in the background providing commentary.

Lol that was hilarious. And informative. The only thing I'd say you sorta need is a powder basket for backcountry. The teeny basket does nothing when there's pow around, you'll just be stabbing the snowpack and going nowhere of you need to pole around a bit in ski mode.

What I learned from your video is I’m happy with my decision of sticking with old trekking poles! Very informative and entertaining video. I got into skiing recently and purchased an old backcountry setup with everything but poles. I didn’t want to risk breaking my carbon poles so I went with the BD trailbreak poles. A little heavy but not noticeable to me since I used them for hiking and backpacking for over five years. I managed to not lose the snow baskets and they also have the extended grip. We will see how many more miles they have in them!

I love “backcountry poles” for extended grip while skinning. More importantly, adjustable ski poles are handy for when people visit, your wife or kids loose their poles. We actually have lees poles because we can adjust and share. The old style black diamond…heavy…are very durable.

@Danny, would you guys consider making an episode just on "layers" that you are using for uphill, or what you have learned about layering over the years -- for different weather conditions, what are your backup options that you carry for when conditions change... etc. What you would recommend, what not. When getting sweaty and cold at the top... I have been trying different pieces in my sweat management... but you guys must have a world of knowledge about this by now.

Also kind of same topic, hydration. Also, that may have been the funniest video about backcountry ski poles ever.

Adjustable is very useful. Especially if you ski Telemark. Also on a long traverse. Wrist loops, please remove, they make it much harder slower to do an ordinary pole arrest. Nearly slipped off a ridge due to this. I have thin elastic cord looped round my wrist, tied half way down the pole, so if I drop it it springs back. But with a Whippet, perhaps it’s ok. I have just got a Whippet for this year. Just bought the head, though a bit tricky making a strong removable connection to the pole

This video could have not been at a better time. I was recently in the market for a new pair of backcountry ski poles. As a weight savvy skimo type of guy I had my eyes on the carbon Dynafit Speed Vario 2 poles, mentioned in your video. They cost a whopping 150 EUR here in EU. But then I discovered a Polish brand Majesty skis and their MAJESTY Touring Carbon 2p ski poles on sale for half the price of the Dynafit poles (75 EUR) and even lighter - a hair under 200 g/pole (maybe you and professor Christoph know more of the brand, they seem more freeride oriented). I have already recived the Majesty poles and they look sturdy, grip is extended, strap is comfortable and easy to adjust when switching to heavier gloves/mitts. They seem like a quality product. I have not tested them yet so I can not verify that. Only dowside is that the provided snow baskets are very small, only 70 mm (2,75 inch) in diameter. I am planning on ordering bigger snow baskets and since thay have a bayonette attachment they are compatible with Komperdell snow baskets and probably also Salewa's. BTW informative and funny video.

Until I have collapsable ski, I’ve no need for collapsing poles, long grips are way more efficient and usually lighter
