I put 30,000 miles on a 2019 Longhorn with every option. I just traded it this month. After 2.5 years there was some leaking of the pano sunroof, the right mirror would click and glitch when autofolding, the battery fully drained once which killed it and when that happened I got lane sense, parking sensors and a few other sensors that were unable to be switched on even with a new battery installed (the dealer reset the computer(s) for me which resolved). 99% of the time the truck was wonderful but with a few years and seasons behind it, I can say it is a phenomenal truck but i would NEVER own one out of warranty. The complexity is going to be the death of this thing.

Reasons why people buy trucks: They're reliable- you can easily get 300,000 miles out of most trucks. They're safer- in the event of an accident, a truck will stand a much better chance vs a car. They're much more spacious: some people are just bigger, or they like to have large cabins.

You are correct that the Ram is better, Thomas, as far as ride. I have a 2021 Ram Limited. If you don’t care for all that chrome, as I don’t either, you can get a black out package for $3,000 bucks, or do what I did, and replace much of the chrome with eBay black lettering, black mirror caps, and order the color-matching bumpers. I also painted the chrome wheels with dupli-color matte black spray paint. You’ll enjoy the quiet and comfortable ride, and you guys deserve it. The Tundra’s interior is about 300 years old. The F-150 looks great too, but ride is not as nice and my experience is that the F-150 in Platinum trim is more expensive than a comparably-equipped Ram in Limited trim. The Silverado and Sierra are ok, but the interiors are also aged. The Sierra, Silverado, and F-150 have unique and arguably better tailgates, whereas the Ram has a split tailgate option, but the Ram is the only one to offer the Ram boxes, where I keep road-side tools and gear. Also, the Ram has storage bins behind the front seats on the floor. Get there in comfort, and then race. Then come back home in comfort. Get the Ram.

Daily’d a 19’ Longhorn for 2 years now. I’ll give you the rundown. The Etorque is a gimmick. The only thing it does is provide seamless auto on/off and a super annoying initial 1/2 turn of the tires in electric mode. When pulling out into traffic, if you need to hammer down, by the time the engine kicks on you already have the skinny pedal planted bc you need to “go”, you peel out, every time. Hit the button to turn that off. You are right about how well it drives though. Get the body colored bumpers, minimizes the chrome. Do not get the ram boxes, they notoriously come out of alignment and decrease payload. The seats are a little stiff to me, I’ve owned multiple high end vehicles though, Audi Q7, Infinity QX80 etc. I got the towing spec, 3.92 gears. Its peppy, but get horrible mpg. I initially got 12. Then I put the Mopar 2” lift with 35s, total average is 13 mpg in 2 years. It. Is. THIRSTY. It tows really well, my 4K lb trailer and RZR combo is nothing to it. It tows like a beast. If it got better mpg I’d never consider selling it. Everyone says the 5.7L just needs to “break in” for better mpg, that is BS. Had a Gen2 Raptor previously, Ford had better seats, better mpg, and well, the Raptor rode like an Escalade. All in all the Ram is a great truck. Side note, TFL Truck did a towing comparison, the Ram got better mpg while towing then the new Ford Powerboost. Not surprised. Any electric assist will lack under load. Oh and my kids love the rear cooled seats. Not many vehicles even offer that under $100K USD.

I have a 13 Longhorn, and fully agree. Towing my Talon is does not even see a hill, but finds every gas station dropping from 20-22 to 10-12 with only 4K weight of a trailer. 160k so far… normal stuff plus a heater core, can’t complain.

Great video boys. A few comments tho: The Powerboost has a lower towing capacity and lower payload than most trucks out there due to the extra weight. If you are buying for towing, it for sure isn't the answer. The 3.5L Ecoboost would do a lot better. You may also want to avoid the Ram airbags here in Canada. LOTS of horror stories in winter where the moisture inside the airlines freezes up and the suspension fails. Ram Sport 1500 is what you guys need!
@upshifter53163 жыл бұрын
Corrections, for interested parties: 1) On the Ford F-150, Powerboost models have an increased GVWR (7300lbs vs 7050 on 4x4 crew cabs) to compensate for the added weight of the hybrid system and batteries. So while payload is still nothing to write home about, it is indeed a) inline with non-Powerboost trucks, and b) higher than any Ram’s payload, trim for trim. 2) The sentiments surrounding Ram’s poor air suspension reliability in cold climates like Canada relate to the4th gen (through 2018) trucks. Ram redesigned the system for the 5th gens, and to everyone’s surprise complaints from the snow-belt about issues are all but non-existent.
@jorgemagana98183 жыл бұрын
@@upshifter5316 Thanks for the comment. 1) I meant towing capacity as opposed to GVWR. Towing capacity and payload are down indeed. 2) The system was re-designed indeed but still suffers the same problems. Most dealers and sales persons here will advice to getting the airbags. Talking with mechanics at the dealer also confirms this.

It's always worth a look at the payload weight when planning to tow with these crew cab luxurious trucks, as well as the towing capacity and GCWR. In the US anyway, this is on a stamp on the doorframe. The weight of the crew cab and the heavier engine counts against the GVWR, reducing your payload. This truck reviewed here might only have about 1500 pounds of payload, or less--I don't know this, I'm guessing; but on the Ram website the V6 has a 1700 pound capacity and I think this truck has the same GVWR. If you're towing a 4000 pound car on a 1500 pound trailer, then your tongue weight will between 550 and 825 pounds. Put four grown men in the truck with their gear, that's another 8-900 pounds, or more, and you'll be right at or over the truck's limit--at least legally. This is an area where Ford has an advantage with the lighter aluminum body, in my opinion.
@kietlam30803 жыл бұрын
As a Ram owner, I agree with you here, my truck (1500) has a payload of only 1400 lbs, which is kind of sad, and I load it up to the max every time I go to the beach with my family, but the truck doesn't seem to squat at all. The truck only squats noticeably on me when I put 2000lbs in the bed, which I know is more than the limit, but it still handles fine, and stops fine. I would assume the same for the other truck brands and the gcwr is just a suggestion if you plead the fifth.
@TumblehomeBoatshop3 жыл бұрын

@TumblehomeBoatshop3 жыл бұрын
@@xavierlopez6545 Right, but you can't change the GVWR. You can put duallies on as well, which will also improve capacity from an engineering standpoint but not a regulatory standpoint. Anything you put on the truck that adds weight to the empty truck counts against it's GVWR.

I would seriously recommend checking any truck stickers before buying, some trucks from other companies, have huge differences in payload in the same class, without it being very straight forward about it, as far as I understand, ram 1500 has two different suspensions set up, spring coils, or air suspension, not including off road specific packages, while I've scene ford have a difference of 1000 pounds to 2000 pounds on their F150, without any off road packages included, and both with leaf spring rear ends

Ford and GM are both HEADQUARTERED in Michigan, therein lies the difference. Ram is not American, just American-made.

Scrap the Etorque, listen for wind noise, whistling from A pillars, crack front window listen for whistling from back seats, brake squeal when backing up, idle surge when trailer attached in gear foot off brakes, AC not cooling well or best only on high, defrost fogging up windshield even though not selected, over sensitive emergency braking when backing up and collision alerts driving in traffic but there's still 20-30 feet between. Truck rides great, plenty of room, 5.7 with 3.92 returned 18-20 hwy, 10-12 pulling 6k 22' bay boat. I honestly loved the truck but it was never ending with, electrical issues and the frot areo guard had to be disabled to stop the whistling noise. I've owned a crap ton of trucks and had RAM not had these issues I'd say it's one of the best trucks I've driven. However I couldn't recommend. All manufacturer's have their quirks some models are king others are not. Love the show, guys keep it up!

Switch to the "limited" trim and add the Night addition package if you want to ditch the chrome. It also gives you more interior color options

They should put the TRX engine in a non-off-road truck like this.
@patrickmartin33223 жыл бұрын
I think the 6.4 would be a better engine to put into the 1500 as an upgraded engine, for the non TRX trims, as the TRX needs to have a special engine

You’re dead on. I own a 2020 Ram Longhorn as my first truck to tow my Trailex trailer and my Z4M Coupe to track events. The ride and capability is amazing. Add a “baller” (Borla) S-Type exhaust and it awakens the hemi without being obnoxious.

When you realize the Extra TH is just the same quality as the original TH Also, Thomas, those 90's off-Green shoes are pretty sick. They also do NOT match that same shade of 90's Purple slapped on a flannel hahaha

Ram nailed it with this truck. The luxury in unprecedented, and the quality is top grade. If you’re buying a new truck you’d be foolish to not buy any version of the Ram.

I own a 2015 Ram 1500. Before that I had a 2012 F150. I tow a 7500lb travel trailer and I haul firewood and other stuff pretty regularly. My Ram has been great Fuel mileage could be better, but it's a truck. My brother has a 2020 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboast. Empty his truck gets better mileage than mine, but towing and lpad r the Hemi in my Ram gets better mileage. I'd suggest you try a conventional coil spring Sport before pulling the trigger on the he air suspension. I drive truck for a living and air suspension can be problematic. If you stick to your plan of leading go with the air suspension. Love both channels, and speaking as a 50 year old whit guy, "Nice truck"

I have this truck, but with the color-keyed front bumper which cuts down on at least some of the obnoxious chrome. I didn't opt for air suspension because I know I'd want to lift it (and did). Still rides like a dream and the wife approves.

Fellas, get your Ram Longhorn with body colored bumpers, like I did. The chrome grill stays, but the painted bumpers elevate the overall look of the truck. Also, have the exterior door and tailgate badging removed. The 2 hood badges and tailgate's ram logo are integrated into the body, so they can't go away.

If you’re buying a truck to tow a vehicle, you want a SuperDuty or equivalent. Whatever the tow rating for a truck is, lower it by 2% per 1,000 feet above sea level and another 25% off for up hills. I’m partial to Ford, but if Thomas thought the F-150 was too harsh, he’s gonna want to stick to RAM, the Power Wagon looks sick anyway. Maybe I’m a bad judge though, because I thought the F-150 was too soft (and thought the RAM was much stiffer).

If you do drive the Sierra 1500, go Denali. I absolutely love mine. The ride is second to none with the MagneRide. It’s tow rating isn’t as high but it does fine and your trailer isn’t gonna max it out anyways. I think for trucks, I’ll never go away from the Denali. The only thing I think I might have done differently is gotten the diesel instead of the 6.2l. I love the power but I think the diesel would have been a better option. Good luck.

Is this truck going to be a dual daily driver & race car trailer hauler? Otherwise, wouldn't it make sense to save money on a cheaper work truck spec, if it's only purpose is to tow?

Geography and my preferences prevent me from ever considering a truck, but the ingenuity that goes into developing the features of these things is impressive. It does make you wonder whether so many American cars are that average because the big 3 spend all their cash on developing nifty new features for Rams, Broncos and Escalades. Also, this might be the first time I’ve considered a car’s interior hilarious.
