My wife & I love your shows. We love the insights and just fun shenanigans you guys get into. We really enjoyed this show and it caused us to really think about this. Here’s what I picked: daily driver, 2018 BMW X5 - $25K, sports car - pick up a ragged out Miata for $5K and dump another $5K in performance upgrades to make a track car that is a lot of fun to drive. Which leaves $15K for my classic, which would be a BMW 2002. That was a lot of fun. Thanks guys. Cheers!

You had bad luck. Had 06 and 07 LR3 both over 210k and never touched the engines. Just a suspension pump on both around 150k.

My mum had a discovery 3 and a discovery 4 when I was a kid. Both went wrong at the exact time the warranty ran out. Both kept going into limp mode and the air suspension kept going down and getting stuck down.

Equus is a great suggestion. I would personally lean toward a 20-25k 08+ LS3 C6 and a cheaper Z32 but these are awesome suggestions.

Classic 1975 Ford f100, 390 V8, C6 auto $2k Sports 1989 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 5 speed Convertible $5.5k Daily 2012 VW Golf Sportwagen 2.0 TDI 6 speed $10k Helps to have a mechanical aptitude and willing to get hands dirty.

I had a 1973 240Z that had a tired motor, so I installed a fresh short block for a 260Z with a Cannon intake and triple 40DCOE Webers. Most intoxicating intake sound this side of a Ferrari Daytona. It was light and quick and I got a whopping 15mpg! Great memories!

Golf is a smart daily choice. One of our daily cars is a 2019 Alltrack SEL, fully optioned. We bought it in 19 with 6,000 miles on it VW CPO so full coverage warranty for 7 years/84,000 miles for $27,000. We currently have 50k miles on it, clean car, no accidents ect.... Today it is worth 23k-25k.

I had a 2019 Alltrack SEL as well. One of my most favorite cars. Swapped a Golf R turbo in within the first 10,000 miles and kept it until around 135,000 miles. No issues, super fun, great in the snow with snow tires, loved it. Only reason I got rid of it when I did was because a vehicle I placed a preorder on came 2 years sooner than I anticipated.

I drove a 986 S and it made it to my list; it's that good. The Cayenne is the only objectionable choice here but I've never been in one. 944 is an interesting case because it's kind of like a Miata but harder to maintain...practical though. Interesting you can make this happen for 50k!

Id rather have two cars for $50k than 3 cars for $50k. $25k/car can get you some gems. $16.5k/car and youre looking at 15+ year old beaters. That said my choices would be: 1. ‘65-68 mustang 289 - $25k 2. First gen SLK55 amg - $15k 3. Land Cruiser 100/LX470 - $10k (Give or take a couple grand for each)

This was tough trying to narrow it down, in fact I couldn't, so will have options Daily-2020's Subaru WRX/Hyundai Kona N $25,000 Classic-Mid 70's Dodge Challenger/80's RamCharger in the $10-15k range Sport-2001 Ford Mustang GT Bullitt $10,000 (my current car) But honestly, the Mustang is almost classic in age and to me would satisfy both of those categories so I would have a to change the parameters to Truck, Daily/Winter, Sport/Classic and my current setup is Truck-2018 Ram 2500 $38,000 Daily/Winter-2007 Chrysler Aspen $6,000 Sport/Classic-2001 Ford Mustang GT Bullitt $10,000 putting me slightly over budget. I had an e39 540i M sport 6 speed it is a fantastic car. More comfortable than an e46 by far and on the highway they feel like they could just keep accelerating forever. Would 100% snatch one of them in good shape. I currently have an f30 335i 6 speed which has a similar wheel base to the e39

I should have added that it's a V8, not the 6, so it does have a decent amount of oomph. I did some small road trips in it and once you get going, the gas mileage is not bad.

Daily: Civic / Corolla $14000 (A four door that don't easily break down) Sports: BMW 135i Manual $18000 (stock 300 hp, huge aftermarket support even if you don't mod your car, RWD, inline 6, decent tech: keyless entry, heated seat, steering, sun roof etc., handles fantastic because it's so close to the legendary 1M; this beats almost everything in this budget.) which is what I drive right now. And the only major issue during my 2 year ownership is a dead starter. And I have a stage 1 turbo and tune pushes 350+ horsepower. Still realiable Classic: NC or ND (if possible) Miata (It's a modern classic now) $18000

For me I think I'd go with actually a similar approach: Daily - VW Golf GTI Mk6 (~10k €) Sports - Porsche Boxster 2.7L 987 (~20k €) Classic - BMW E30 325i (~20k €) Or I'd get a pristine Audi RS4 B7 and have a daily, a "sports" and a (modern) classic, probably some change left to keep that V8 running for a couple of years too (and yeah i know it's cheating to include it in the classic category as a modern classic, but i was in kindergarten when it came out so it's classic enough)

Major props on the 240Z. Owned one of those many moons ago and it was fun with a great gearbox. And 1972 is the year; by 1973 the emissions regs were creating real issues (mine was a 1973). And getting one with no rust is a major coup.

Doug has become extremely out of touch with reality. He calls the $70k Kia EV9 awd affordable. Last I checked the average new car costs $49k, even that is a ton of money if not making $100k+ (regardless of if the dealership/bank will approve you for more).

For me, I’d go series 100 LX470 for my daily, an 07-08ish Cayman S for my sports car , and a nice 280Z or a really nice Buick Roadmaster wagon(converted to coil packs) for my classic car. I’d have the ability to wrench on everything except for the Porsche. Another pick would be a used Elantra N for my daily, a C5 vette for my sports car, and a nice squarebody for my classic car. I could go like this for days, I like all kinds of cars so I could plug in almost anything interesting for a daily and be happy, doesn’t have to be sporty as long as it’s cool or funky

You can get a good E39 528 here in the states for about $3,000. They are criminally undervalued. A good 540i goes for 5 grand. My cousin has had one for 8 years now. 240,000 miles and going strong.

It costs 10k to get a mk5 gti in australia? Damn. I just picked one up last December here in the midwest USA for $2,200 lol. But of all my 8 or so various vws I've owned, the mk5 gti felt the most sporty by far. Only topped in the handling department by my current daily, a 2017 Fiesta ST I got for $10,000usd with a rebuilt title from a small harness fire lol😅 It feels more agile than the GTI and it's definitely a little quicker too.
