Introverted sensing is also for a large part conditiong. For example, each year it's christmas time and christmas makes somehow you happy as Si dom. So if the Si dom will want to continue having that internal positive experience, they will repeat the things were present at the previous christmas or multiple christmasses they enjoyed. These can be the same people, the same music, the same location or whatever else. Si does not always really 'understand' the causation of things, but yet clearly remembers the correlations between external things and internal things. So it remembers all these things (the christmas music, the people there, the location) as given them the sensation of happiness inside. It's like your dog that does not understand most things you do at home like using your computer and such, and neither cares about it, yet when it hears the sound of his food can being opened or the door to outside being opened for a walk, it instantly knows what's going to happen and gets all excited for it. Such animals in that sense are very Si. A lack of Si could be the person who may want the perfect birthday, but does not really remember the correlation of the things that gave them the experience of happiness inside in previous birthdays or things close ot that. So they can _imagine_ the perfect birthday, but do not know what actually gives them this experience. For example, my ENFJ girlfriend who is Si Polr had a friend for years and she had the _idea_ she liked that friend and hanging out with that friend. However, each time she came back from meeting with that friend, it basically was a bummer. She felt exhausted when she came home. However, the next time it seems like she forgot that because she still had the sort of (Ni?) idea_ in her head that she liked hanging out with that friend. It's almost like someone just pushes their reset each button time when it comes to experiences. She knows the ideas generally associated with things, but does not remember the real life experiences of it. It does give a person a very optimistic mindset, just like a child that does things for the first time. As a bystander you know the kid is about to fall and cry, but the kid is still happily playing with the scissors it does not see it coming that it's gonna hurt itself.

Interesting. I'm INTJ, and I don't feel a connection to holidays at all, other than what I see other's enjoying. I'm a better gift giver than receiver. I don't really think about my birthday much, and typically would use that day to enjoy some downtime.

Thanks! I was on the fence whether I'm an ENTJ or an INTP and now I know for sure that I have Se. That will be a good differentiation for anyone struggling with the same rare problem 😅

as an INTJ who ABSOLUTELY LOVES INTENSE and/or strong/unique/unusual sensations (in infrequent yet significant amounts), i feel like that is a product of my diminished or inferior extroverted sensing. most of the time i feel little to nothing during my day-to-day living and, im ABSOLUTELY FINE with that. in fact, you could say i even PREFER it. however, during those times when i choose to engage; i REALLY, REALLY, REALLY engage. i consider that relationship to the external world around me to be an example of yin yang in my daily life. also, i note that i pay EXTRAORDINARILY LITTLE mind to my own sense of Si and; i mostly disregard whatever i personally feel in my daily living. aside from it directing the daily pursuits i seek for fun, the social influence of others has ABSOLUTELY ZERO impact on my Si or Fi. - (again) INTJ

Same here. Keep in mind that Se is our inferior function. I put together a fairly extensive home theater systems, but I might watch movies once a month. I built a sports car I rarely drive. The need for sensory is rare, but extreme. I think people perceive this trait as eccentric.

Most of the pictures and video recordings when I was a child were taken on "special" occasions, like a birthday, on vacation and so forth out. However, looking back at it, the pictures and videos I would rather have had would be of the normal, average day type of places and occasions, cause they represent 90% of your childhood rather than the few times something more "extreme" happened. In my view this is a bit similar to what Si is all about. It's not so much about the more extreme or outlier moments, but but the focus is on the "normal" moments you (repeatedly) experience.

Loved this vid great contrasting of these 2 functions. The perceiving functions are the most challenging to conceptualize and you did a great job simplifying them. Looking forward to Ni vs Ne!

As an ISTP, I've always valued functionality over aesthetics. While I can appreciate the beauty and history of antiques when visiting a museum, I personally prefer items that serve a clear purpose. For instance, I'd opt for a practical piece of furniture from IKEA over an antique, simply because it meets my needs and is cost-effective. When it comes to books, I'm not particularly attached to the physical format. What matters to me is the medium-whether it's digital or audio-that offers the most convenience. Being a woman, I've never been drawn to designer handbags or jewelry. Instead, I lean towards functional items like smartwatches. It baffles me why someone would invest so much in items that lack tangible utility. However, I do acknowledge that technology, despite its usefulness, has a short lifespan and can't be passed down like traditional heirlooms. Interestingly, while makeup might not have a "functional" purpose in the traditional sense, I do enjoy using it. Looking good and feeling confident is a kind of utility in its own right.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm INTJ, and struggle with understanding sensory somewhat. My perspective is that I expect a level of functionality first, but also feel that things should look as good as they function. Esthetics is secondary, yet important to me, at least on some level. I would likely prefer the antique furniture to IKEA because of the materials used in their construction, and durability/ repairability. Interesting to see other's insight.

The great Socionics writer Gulenko said it best: Se = Kinesthetic learning Si = visual learning. Ti/Fi = audio learning. This can only be seen though once you realize mbti-ISPs actually lead with correctly defined Si. And mbti-ISJs actually lead with correctly defined Ti/Fi. This means ISTPs are primarily Si visual learners who then apply Te to fix a 🚗 . ESTPs are primarily Se kinesthetic learners that learn by mixing concrete, etc.

Maybe conserving / conservation is a good word for Si overall because I think that is essentially why they do it … it’s about savouring… ? To hold on to what they like, to enjoy it fully and repeatedly It could be sensation vs savour

I figured out that I use Ti and Fe pretty early on, but have been struggling with figuring out which perceiving axis I am on mainly because of the sensing functions. Now, I'm still not completely confident but I've spent the last few hours just listening to descriptions of the perceiving functions and this video made it click with what exactly might be going on. I think that I use Si and Ne, BUT my dad fits the Se descriptions to a T. And because I have always looked up to my Dad and enjoy spending time with him and often being like him, I have come to enjoy and value a lot of Se related things like thrill seeking and trying new foods and stuff like that. I think my brother is also high Se now that I think about it so what I think has happened is that I have been surrounded by that so much that certain Se things have become part of how I see myself, even though my natural inclination is toward Si. When left to my own devices, I do tend to fall into and be very comfortable with patterns. Like with the food example, I do often seek out new foods and if a restaurant has a limited time item or strange item I will tend to wanna try it. But when I think about it this often has more to do with me seeing myself as an adventurous person like my Dad and once I've tried the new stuff that stands out I am perfectly content getting the same order every time for months or years with no change. And even when trying new things I always keep something consistent (I get sweet tea every time no matter what, no matter where). Another example is amusement parks. I have adopted some thrill seeking behaviors and will go ride all of the roller coasters and other adrenaline rush rides (Often just to be able to say I did it), but once I've tried them all I just wanna go home and relax. Like "ok I did the thing. Cool. Time to go listen to the same playlist that I have listened to every single day for the past year and not do anything else." Anyway yea, I just wanted to share my thought process here so maybe it will help someone else. Maybe if you are also struggling with typing yourself look at the behaviors of people around you or who you look up to and see if you're emulating them in some way that is tripping you up. That seems to be my situation here.

As INTJ male, I appreciate this explanation. With Se being my inferior function, It's hard to relate to what Si is, and how to deal with Si dominate types. I learn easier from a similar type. Your analogies make since to me.

If you are both, impulsive, reactive AND passive, likes comfort...good luck. Good in sport, also thinking of past. Forgetful (feminine sensory) and fast reaction like any human being has in danger. Highly sensitive, but sensation seeking too. Submissive, but seeing things best in the moment. Bored of too much calmness, but not interested in parties or loud noises around you. Cant read with focus if teachers and others talk near me. I think se and si plays without the feminine/masculine modalities, the place in cognition stance and combination with other cognitive functions fe, te, ne, ti, fi another reality in how it really plays out. Being conservative or loving history and antique things also dont mean to have si. To Dario Nardi, si first and si second users use different brain paths for example too You said "comfort" for si, but that gives a stereotype of dont putting risiko in things, people or life. Instead if an se dont builds step by step and reacts only to what they see, they build nothing in life. Every si users has also ne for newness and exitment.

Se vs Si sounds like this: Se: YESS! Let's take action! It will be cool!- and then they get hit by a train Si: No, that's too dangerous- and then they will miss interesting opportunities because they don't step out of their comfort zone to try something new because they see the bad ending. (I have Fe inferior so I miss opportunities to talk to people and to make friends) Se is optimistic, Si is pessimistic. Se is excited to go out, into the unknown, into danger, meet new people..., Si is scared of those things so they rather stay in the known Se tries to find all the positive things, Si tries to avoid the negative things Si is fear+discipline, Se is brave and enthusiastic. The fear and discipline is a weird combination because you can use discipline to overcome your fears but it makes sense. Si types are more obedient- they are more likely to obey when parents say: If you do (or don't do) this, you'll be punished. Si is more ISTJ-T Se is more ENFP-A My brother is ESTP and my mother is ISFJ and my mother asked: I'm a feeler and he's a thinker? Because ISFJs are Si doms and they have low Fi, they much more supress their feelings instead of expressing them and ESTP isn't the typical intellectual like INTP- let's think for hours and also ESTP doesn't think much about the consequences of his actions. They're more like: let's take exciting action.
