When training on the survival course at Fleetwood the pool had a wave generator which produced a 1 metre wave. Getting into the life raft in 1 metre wave conditions was difficult enough. When I used to go out to the north sea rigs I used to go down to the lowest deck and watch the waves and count the rungs covered by each wave and none were as small as a metre even in calm weather in the north sea. If evacuation could not be from the heli deck or life boats we were told to go down to the lowest deck and use the stairs . Still if the rig was ablaz or could explode the stair was preferable to being blown up or incinerated I suppose.This video gives a glimpse of the power of the sea.

Do you think a steel fabricator was checking the weather deciding when to go and rappel down to build the stairs? And then had to ask his buddy to watch out for any rogue waves and then Tom cruise his way out when one came? They are made on land. The real MVP is the guy who spends months in a saturation diving bell under several times atmospheric pressure going down in a diving suit to do actual work under the ocean. Where he may actually die for any number of reasons and so gets paid a buttload of money for risking his life doing critical work that robots can't do.
