Think about all the spiders, and the bugs, that will now be living with you. Then there's all the hassle of actually cutting a tree down when it's freezing, and it's probably not the right size you want, and the pine needles scratch at you when your trying to put ornaments on. And all of that not to mention the dirt and the mess? (Out of all the things, my family is not known for handling dirt and grime well.) Fake trees are the way to go!

i married into a family a little like this and my husband is the only normal one i swear. my mother in law went insane when the pandemic started and bought a ton of chicken that she shoved in a freezer for four years. the family moved houses and she BROUGHT THE CHICKEN WITH HER. it was frozen and thawed multiple times until it eventually rotted and she still tried to make the rest of the family eat it. i refuse to eat anything that comes out of that kitchen, it would put me in the hospital so fast

My MIL isn't quite this bad.. but she acts like expiration dates are like.. not real or something lmao the only thing she isn't like that with is milk and even that she'll claim is "still good" for a week after the date. I have found shlt in her cabinets that expired like 5, 6, 7 years ago and she still won't throw it out when I say something. My husband sneaks and throws shlt out when she's not around lol and I have caught her putting expired shlt in the packaging with newer shlt. Like she will take the couple packs of oatmeal or little Debbys or literally anything, open the new box of the same thing, shove the old ones in there, and tell no one she did it. I can't trust the food at her house either lol fortunately for me, she's the only one like that. My husband, all his siblings, his dad, etc. don't like it either.

If it’s frozen well before the expiration date (not when it’s about to expire) and kept frozen, it’s safe to eat later, but if you leave the freezer door slightly open on accident or the power goes out so it partially thaws, you have to eat it then or throw it away, you can’t freeze it again. Bacteria can’t grow in the freezer, but over time the taste and texture can suffer. I don’t get food poisoning easily so I have just closed the freezer door if the door has been cracked for a few hours, but technically that is more risky.

We have a "salvage grocery" in my area. Yes, it's foods that are near or slightly past their best by date. The meats are all going to be frozen of canned when you buy them. These stores are even more heavily regulated than regular grocery stores...so as long as you cook these foods the day you buy or defrost them they are about as safe to consume as any other frozen meats.

Freezing your meat only makes it last 2 to 6 months longer. Also never buy food at a salvage market. Oh look I dredged a ship up from the 1700s well throw this food into the salvage market for someone will buy it. That is what salvage markets are like. They get food and stuff from places that went out of business and they are often rotted food. Salvage stores are only legal do to a technicality but they are not legally allowed to sell food but they still do.

I will say that even frozen meat and foods can still expire. It slows the process but doesn't stop it. Quick guide, anything over 6 months past expiration should be scrapped when you find it.
