My room is always the first to get neglected, but especially during the holidays. I depend too much on being able to just shut the door and keep it out of sight. Plus, haven't had luck finding a system for certain things that works for both me and my husband. So it becomes a mess way too easily. Same with my kids' rooms, but somehow I can stay on top of them. Lol.

Love watching your videos! You're room looks so pretty! I used to sort my laundry like you, especially when I had all 6 of my kids at home growing up. Now that I'm older the only thing I do seperate are towels from clothes. Unless i have colors that will Bleed all the clothes go in together to save me time. They all get clean. I do however dry things different. For instance I hang dry my delicate items so they don't shrink and also air fluff my shirts and my sons shirts so they don't shrink. Everything else goes on heat but it's usually low heat. I also am big on not letting things sit in dryer. I immediately fold and hang items. My 2 sons that are still home put their things away and I put my husband's and my things away.

Clothes can shrink in the washer too, if you use warm or hot water.

I also hate putting away my laundry, mainly because its overwhelming to sort them out, So, what i’ve done is to separate my bottoms from my tops. Gym clothes, lounge wear, socks, and undies. Not only do I take less time putting away my laundry now, but it helps me focus on just one section and I actually enjoy it now. Also, I noticed that my laundry looks a lot cleaner? 😂 ok ocd much? 🤷🏻‍♀️

5:08 psych major here who loves watching cleaning videos! 😌 OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder. “Excessive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead to compulsive behaviors.” so unless those behaviors you are experiencing are interfering with your daily life (inability to attend work, school, or social activities & maintain relationships) then I’d say what you’re experiencing is very normal. My mom is just like you! When it comes to OCD, you may notice you have constant anxiety & mental distress due to said obsessions & compulsions, which actually ruin your normal behavior & functioning. 😊 anyways, i love your videos, i hope you find a better laundry routine for yourself & take back your self control (less procrastination). I struggle with laundry as well… take me 2-3 days to get everything washed & a week to get all the clothes folded & hung. EXTREMELY GUILTY OF PROCRASTINATION 😅

I know what OCD is & I don’t use the term lightly. I’d think that sharing that I cannot just put things in the messy drawer without having intrusive thoughts about it all day long would indicate to you that I’m not misusing the term. 🫠

This is a great motivation video to help clean my bedroom. I’ve decluttered my books I’ve had for years from school and the notes I took along with other books to read. I’ve also been going through my clothes. I’ve been storing the concert shirts and other clothes in the vacuum bags.

My mom never wanted to do anything twice. She made a place for everything and put it back when she was done, including clean laundry. I always fold right out of the dryer and put it away. This keeps the clothes from wrinkling and reduces any ironing. And it saves the step of having to put the laundry somewhere in the interim and then pick it up again. It’s basically all about not expending extra energy where I don’t have to. And clutter piles up less which is great for sanity. 😊

Girl you are not alone with fixing the drawers when putting stuff away. Every time I open a drawer to put something away...if it's messy I have to fix it first. My husband is bad about unfolding a shirt and then picking a completely different one. He just throws the other one back in. Same with my kids. I do the no fold method with their jammies because well I'm tired of folding and refolding. Lol. Who cares if their jammies are wrinkled? 🤷‍♀️ but you are not alone. I am exactly the same way. This is making me want to clean out my closet. I can't comfortably step in it and grab what I need. I lean over things to get to what's inside. 🤦‍♀️ thank you for this video. @@lovinglifeasmegan so for my kid's jammies I literally just toss them in the drawer. Sloppy and unfolded. Saves me a lot of refolding. I use the same method for my tank tops and shorts that aren't jeans.

Megan, loved your video. Typically when hanging things with wire like that, the wire should be pulled taut. The looseness of the wire is the reason the mirror angles out. Also, the brackets are typically lower on the frame in order to distribute the weight. So, you could keep the top lip sitting on the current monkey hook, but also pull the wire taut and add a second monkey hook lower down. This would further distribute the weight, making for a stronger hold. Hope that makes sense and I'd love to hear if you try this and if it works!

Oh, and I saw someone else recommended command strips. I think that's a good idea in addition to the method I just recommended.

The edge of the mirror isn’t thick enough for command strips. We haven’t had any issues with how I hung it so far!

You did a great job wuth your bed room. I used to sort my laundry but now I've changed a little bit I will wash all my darks together but when it comes to towels and socks they go together and they do not get fabric softener because if you put fabric softener in with your towels your towels will not absorb water in your socks will not absorb your sweaty feet, now sheets and wights go together. Used to wash my husband's Dirty Work uniforms separately but now I just wash them with all his dark jeans he doesn't notice lol. God bless you and your family.🙇‍♀️💖🎄☃️🤗🤗

I hold a picture with wire like that because I was having the same problem you were having.It has been up for about six months and doing fine .There are no doors on that wall and it doesn't get bumped at all.I do darks together,then lights together and a I do my cleaning rags together.I have teen boys so my whites are usually done in hot or warm water .Thank you for sharing with us 🤗❤️.

I am always re- arranging my drawers when i put things away. Also, my idea of sorting laundry is clothes vs towels/ blankets we dont sort the clothes though it all just goes in together! I know my mom sorted but i never have. Its so convient that way, but if sorting your clothes is the way you like it then absolutely do what works for you and what you like. We wash sheets weekly. The duvet and blankets not as often. I hate making the bed too. Especially when I have to wrestle the mattress cover back on. I like to fold my laundry and organize it too. It looks nicer. As a teen I use to fold it and just not put it away. Now my husband washes and I fold and put it away weekly (apartment living). I sort it like you too! 😂

I hung a rod near my dryer and the things that get hung up I hang right out of the dryer, and stand there and fold what needs folding. It was a game changer for me. I also set a timer on my phone for when the dryer will be done so I don’t have to continuously fluff loads that I let sit

I use Shout brand Color Catchers in my laundry so that colors don’t run. They are my most favorite product of all time!! Great video! Tip for the mirror.. the wire is pretty secure, but maybe add some picture frame command strips to keep it flush to the wall. Also with laundry, I have OCD and I get made fun of (not in a mean way) because I sort my laundry like that but I fold the dirty laundry so it doesn’t take up as much space. I am loving the room transformation, so peaceful

I learned if you flip the douve cover inside out and put it on top of the blanket then flip it outside in, it cuts down a majority of the time and makes it easier.

Suggestion on dealing with the junk mail: I solved it years ago. When you check out at any store using a debit or credit card and are asked to give your phone number or your zip code, just say no! IT in the receipt software connects that information when a checker adds it. I get 6 pieces of mail a month now, only the actual bills for utilities and one magazine subscription. It took several years to stop the massive ad campaigns, but is so worth it!

I sort my laundry the way my mother did it. When I was small, all we had was a wringer washer ( I’m 74) so it was whites in the cleanest, hottest water, light colored, dark colored, towels, bedding . Rags or anything else was last. Oh, and yes I did get my skinny little arm caught in the wringer but I wasn’t hurt.

I use different detergents for different things so I only put stuff that I want to wash with fragrance free detergent in the fragrance free hamper and so on. I just feel like it saves time to not mix the stuff up to begin with. I also fold and put away everything right from the dryer because if I don't and put it in a basket it will live in that basket forever and I'll shove the basket somewhere to get it out of the way and wonder where so many of my clothes or towels went. lol

I do have ocd and I'm the same with putting clothes away I get distracted and end up tidying the area up I'm my own worse enemy. I was a lot worse i couldn't sit still I hardly slept I used to clean through the night grab a couple of hours

I sort my laundry. Lights, darks, red items that are newer until I can throw them in with the darks. Towels, bedding. I always use a color catcher with colors just in case.

I also use color catcher sheets they are amazing. You can get them at any supermarket- it prevents colored (especially new 1st wash clothing ) staining other items although I admit I do separate my darks from my lights ❤

Yes, they catch the colors that bleed off newer clothing. You can buy an off brand at Walmart called color grabbers. They work just as well.

I use a rolling divided hamper. So when we put dirty clothes in they are already sorted. I too sort whites, lights, colors, and darks. I also have a hanging laundry bag in my bathroom for dirty towels/wash rags. I’m kinda OCD about laundry. Lol

I am not too sure iff you have OCD. My neighbour has OCD and she cleans and tidies as she goes. She will not allow anything to be out of place for a minute. If she accidentally misses something she then has to clean the room completely 😮 from top to bottom x

OCD manifests in different ways for different people. I definitely have intrusive thoughts, which is a symptom of both OCD & anxiety. For example, if I put all of my laundry in the wash together, or didn’t tidy the drawers while putting clothes away, I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about that until I went back & fixed it. It’s intrusive thoughts & ritualistic solutions.

Maybe too late but the hanging wire should be nearly straight across with only a small amount of slack - that will stop the top of the mirror from pitching forward off the wall.

I always sort because I have had soooo many things ruined from a stray dark sock that made its way in… it like stains the clothes it was touching! Doesn’t happen all the time but definitely happened sooooo many times when my oldest kids were little I lost a whole lot of their clothes in a horrible jeans incident 🤦‍♀️ But with lots of kids you have enough loads to sort easy! Whites Greys/beiges Blacks Pinks 😂 Reds Dark colours Light colours Jeans… Towels (if I have just one I toss it in whatever colour it matches) Bedding

While I see the benefit of sorting laundry before washing, I have found that it is more beneficial for my mental health to always have laundry done and put away. The way I have found works best for me to do that is 1 load of laundry every day from start to finish. It's way less overwhelming that way because it doesn't pile up in baskets waiting to be folded for weeks (which is my current status because we've all been sick and I'm off my routine lol!!) Because I'm usually doing 1 load a day, it isn't practical to sort it since there isn't enough of 1 category of clothing for a full load. :)
