I feel like it's always out of control because I've never been able to figure out any sustainable organization that would function long term...until now. I found a life changing closet organization hack! But first I've got to declutter, and I'm always inspired by the Konmari Method of decluttering from Marie Kondo. For me personally, ive added kibbe and seasonal colouring on top. Finally discovering my body type and colouring has brought me so much joy and insite, so things finally make sense. So i ask myself the usual, "does this... spark joy""serve a purpose""would i buy this again", then after that, i ask myself, "is this a color that suits me?", then "does this fit my body, and if not can i get away with it"(some items i keep anyways because its away from the face or is a statement piece and i dont mind people being drawn to it etc. and makes me happy) Adding that extra layer makes me feel safe, and like i know no matter what im wearing ill look good, which is just suuuuper comforting for me.

Evaluate shopping. Do you need it or will it sit in your closet..if you don't wear it or use it within 2 weeks, take it back, unless purchased out of season.

Glorious! One thing that works for me is putting my seasonal stuff in opaque bins (looks more tidy) on the top shelves. I literally have to get a stepladder when it's time to swap them out, so the space is really not meant for routine access. Save all of the lower levels with easy access for things that you'll use on a weekly/monthly basis.

I used to do the same. I would coupon for those types of items and basically had a grocery store in my house lol. Eventually I stopped, and now I fill the space with home decor. 😅

My clothes closet only has clothes in it! I'm lucky that I have a 'spare' room that I use as an office, so I've never been tempted to put paper stuff in my closet. But I do need to do a declutter - not that it's packed solid, but there are definitely a lot of things I never even look at... why store them? I wonder if you have attic space? Large things that can handle heat and cold (like that suitcase) I keep up there - we put in pull-down stairs that are great, and put a 'floor' in the attic with some spare boards my husband had. Also, I love the idea of putting seasonal items separately, that way you can just switch them out once every six months or so!

Megan - I separate my clothes by season for two reasons: First, to make room in my closet and drawers, of course. But, second, when I pull out those bins with the sweaters, joggers, and hoodies I haven’t seen since April, it’s like having a bunch of new clothes!😄There is always at least one “I forgot I had that!” The closet looked great, and I will be ordering the bins. They look more high end those plastic “drawer” units.

Suggestion when trying to declutter your closets, do it every 4-6 months and: 1: turn all hangers backwards, then, when you wear a hanging item and put it back in the closet, turn the hanger the “right” way- at the end of the 4-6 months (I put this in my calendar with an alert), those items still backwards on the hanger are things you don’t wear or like to wear. 2. Folded items- fold one way- I roll, and when I wear it, I fold it the KonMari way to indicate I am wearing it. And again, once the 4-6 months pass, the rolled items go bye bye. I do this same method with all the extra blankets, towels, etc. And also with make up, hair products, cleaning products, etc. And with mail and paper stuff- keep a shredder near where you go through mail and papers, and if it’s junk or can go, put it in the shredder immediately as you go through it. I would rather a shredder in my kitchen or living room (mine is in my small office area off the dining room, because all the mail gets dumped there each day).

I am pretty minimal but I still declutter often. I have found that I will always have things to declutter.. dont be so hard on yourself we go through different seasons, styles and chapters in our lives! Decluttering is just us moving from chapter to chapter in our lives!
