Pro-tip for packing clothes, just put them (hanger and all) in the gallon trash bags and carry them out. Easy to pack and unpack. I do this every time I move.

Moving is hard physically but also mentally because every item you touch has memories attached to it. It gets overwhelming at the end of the day because you wonder why you wasted so much money on things you didn't really need and no matter how much you are purging, when you get to the new space, you are going to wonder why you saved so much stuff! I met a girl who moved to the US from down under and prior to the move her house burned down and she lost everything. Sher said in a lot of ways it was a relief because she realized she was spending a lot of time taking care of stuff instead of people! Absolutely. Mostly for me, it was the kids toys. I know how pricey they are and alot were gifts. But constantly cleaning toys got old. So I put 75% in a huge bag and hid it. I told myself if the kids didn't notice something gone in a week or 2, its gone! And now no more piles of unused toys!

Exactly! I've moved too much and know that when it's time to go, you're not going to care about most of what you have! Personal items like tech and stationary, clothes and bathroom stuff, maybe some kitchen and food. That's it.

Well, when I moved out my marital home before divorce I had to pack my stuff at once and quickly. And let me tell you - even my late son's things (we don't have memory boxes tradition in my country, so I organised it myself) were in disarray! I had so much to declutter! I thought I didn't have much clothes (I decluttered it twice before, but I got some maternity clothes and such). So, yeah you have to declutter before you move to avoid dealing with ton of stuff after moving in. Because we have a saying "if you lived at the apartment with one room, you will barely fit your stuff in two bedroom apartment".

When you get to you new home, dont buy alot staff. Get staff slowly. When i moved i got excited and bought unnecessary staff lol.

PURGE like crazy as you pack! That’s what I did and even so, when I unpacked I still found things that either didn’t fit in the new place or that I realized I didn’t need anymore. It’s so much fun to organize the cabinets in a new place and not have them crammed with stuff. I’m sure looking forward to the tour video!

I'm so excited!!! I got rid of a lot to someone really cool and nice. Girl didn't trip when I was wanting a different price for a lot I listed so I could pay my phone bill, so I added a TON of good stuff for her family, especially the kids who are little and doing virtual school. I'm moving the rest of my stuff out of the house, and I enjoy blessing someone who's actually a good person. This chick is doing the virtual schooling for her two boys and her two nieces!! 😱♥️

i LOVE to declutter! i do it at least twice a year. i live in a really small apartment with zero storage space in london with 2 roommates so there's no room for any extra stuff😂 i can't function in a cluttered space so keeping on top of it is really important for us😊 good luck with your move🥳

Decluttering is getting rid of unnecessary items..to me. 😁 I'm like that I tend to hold onto items that I "think" I'll use or might need. But I never do. Once I get rid of it than I'll feel better. Decluttering is something I do through out the year. The biggest clutter I typically have is papers🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I have so many papers from the kids school, old Bill's I dodnt throw away, but I am determined by the time we move again less junk. I would use trash bags and also make use of your furniture to help you move. Soft items are fine in plastic bags, even books if they are strong bags. Also suitcases and backpacks. And keep things in drawers or other small manageable storage and just move the drawer as a whole.

I moved from Alaska to New York after being in AK my entire life. I wanted to keep so much but my adult son had to be the wise one and decide on the difficult items for me. It made it much easier. I helped my brother do the same thing one year. He got rid of a truck full of stuff. (Most things donated to thrift stores)
