Impressive transformation! The quilts are so beautiful and unique-- maybe you could hang them up on the walls in the playroom, homeschool rm, or bedrooms. They deserve to be seen. And, yes, have the kids put away all their homeschool supplies and toys every evening. Great job!

A locking cabinet!!!! That is a great idea! I can't tell you how many times kids have dumped puzzles or more games out all over the place. I wish I had a row of shelves or cabinets really high up around my whole entire house just to shove stuff that I don't want the kids to touch.

Great job 👍 I worked with special needs children for 20 years in saying that we took the time after each activity/lesson, everything was put back in it's place by myself and the students. It saved a lot of work at the end of the day, there was nothing to clean up or put away. It also helped to stop the distraction of a cluttered class room.
@LeafLikeOnATree3 жыл бұрын
I need to be better at this. I use to have a rule everyone had to rest the rooms before lunch and dinner. That worked for us. And my signal to remind them was when I started preparing their meal. When they were done they got to eat so they were motivated to tackle it quickly too.

My favorite books were the Nancy Drew book series. Read the whole series back n the late 60’s. Also loved Little House on the Prairie after reading it in 3rd grade. On this decluttering series I especially loved the individualized book sections for each child. Great idea! Also how you labeled each section for easy clean up for the kids. The Nugget Couch is awesome! What a nice reward for the kiddos after all their amazing help. I had guessed it would be blue because I know you very well. Keep up your fun & inspiring series. Love you, Punky. PS. What a relief to see that linen closet so organized & with linen in it. Also you can now close the door with ease. Very very impressive Love you, Mom😊❤️

Seeing your kids make a car out of their couch reminds me of when I was 5 and made a car from the kitchen chairs and living room pillows in the kitchen on a regular basis. We had a suite in the basement that was always rented out, most of the houses built in the 40"s and 50's were built with self-contained suites where I grew up. My Dad built our house . It was originally a 4 bedroom, but we later made the kitchen smaller to make a closet for my parent's bedroom. The fourth bedroom became the formal dining room and a kitchen wall was made into big cabinets and on the other side of it a fireplace. Why they chose to popcorn the ceiling, is beyond me, except in the late sixties it was a thing. I came to really hate that ceiling, In the living room on wall was painted with a slight textured swirl pattern just a bit darker ecru and was quite nice, I loved it, that and the beautiful textured ceiling went out with the new reno. Mom chose walnut cupboards and a midcentery greenish tile and light lino. It was nice, the bathroom sink and cabinet was changed to an walnut hanging vanity, and weird tile I did not like either, white with brown swirls. Since the walls were plaster, there was no shower just a tub and new lino same as kitchen white and brown specks. I kept suggesting more color on the walls, ripping the dark green carpet up in the dining room and living room to a more subdued neutral but my mom wanted orange curtains and a green sofa that was midcentry but uncomfortable. The curtains in the dining room were still the same yellow-gold, and the kitchen was green/yellow curtain. My room was decorated in a soft green, apricot, and green shag rug with the carpet rug, and a lovely girly bedspread and curtains of soft golds, greens and apricot. I chose a wallpaper that looked like barn wood for a feature wall. I was like 10, and a very frustrated interior designer with lots of ideas, my Mom always decorated for what was in style, not what she really liked, she liked soft pinks and blues but up until they retired and moved into an apartment, did she do want she wanted. Every other house was browns, golds, rusts, no matter how I pleaded for her to use colors and a style she really liked instead of beige. My Mom could pick wonderful color combos for dresses, and quilts that she made, but put color besides beige on the wall? Nope? Too radical, never have found out why she thought that and now she is 99, her mind is not what it used to be and has most likely forgotten the reason. That nameless reason will haunt me forever. LOL Like you I am starting the purge and cleaning my apartment, it seems endless- but I shall overcome... eventually.

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. I really could envision your childhood home. I love mashing up current trends with what I like. Kind of like using a color accent instead of a taupe color. I am so glad you are on this journey of decluttering with me. We are in it together. Some days are more challenging than others, but we will get there.

Amelia Padilla, Hank the cow dog, and when I became a teenager, I like books that were like movies and see how they were different.* for the linens you can put one fitted sheet inside a flat sheet and one pillowcase and tuck them into a pillowcase. That way you’ll have all 4 pieces for your bed together in Linen’s Closet or you can do like I do and I have a cube storage bin with sheet set with shams & throw pillows altogether. So, when you go to put your linens back on bed everything is together.

That top from another video that you were wondering whether to keep for the kids - you should cut it up and make something useful for each child - like maybe keep squares from things of yours and make them each a blanket from your stuff that you leave for them to find when the time comes.

You are so smart to try the one box challenge. The trick to living more simply is to constantly revisit all the areas of your home and declutter. Once you are able to have places for everything, it helps to see clearly what is and isn't being used. Happy Easter!

Could something like work for your girls “space?” And btw…MAJOR kudos to you for taking on the huge task of homeschooling. I could not have done it. Especially thru the high school years!
