Hey Guys! I hope that you enjoy this extreme declutter and organization! I finally decluttered my desk and as you can see it was desperately needing it! But at least now it’s done and there were some reallyyyy satisfying before and after clips! Is there an area in your house that is desperately needing a good declutter? 💜💜💜

When I get the mail, I stand by the recycle bin and toss junk mail right away. I've also switched most of my statements to electronic, even utilities. It's just easier and I set up all my bill payments for the month on the 1st of every month so I don't miss any. My paper messes are school related between college, distance learning, and I teach as well. It ends up in the kitchen table since I don't have an office...that is my problem area. Great videos, glad I found you through Love Meg!

Jenny B, you sound organized already. One tip I can share with you is to place a nice box on your kitchen table to hold papers you place there. Then spend 10 mins a week to sort through it or as you say, pay your bills once a month then toss. Hope that helps. I learnt that from Mrie Kondo, where she says, its best to place boxes where you seem to place items instead of forcing yourself to use a different place for it, for you might not use that new place and will still resort to the kitchen table anyways.
@dasha2006984 жыл бұрын
Some tips: - sort your mail into junk and not-junk before you step foot in the house and throw the junk directly in the recycling before doing anything else - have a designated bin for papers that gets sorted on a monthly-ish basis - put a moratorium on buying pens and highlighters until you've actually worked through the ones you have - considering the size of your desk area, making sure that you only put stuff relevant to the work you do at that desk is critical. You don't have the space to keep general family stuff there, so perhaps make a conscious effort to put that on a counter that gets cleared more regularly.

For organizing the kids' paper arts and important documents, I have placed each paper into clear plastic three-hole-punched sleeves and organized them into a big binder. This way, you can easily flip through each page and save them in a compact manner. I used to just put all of them into a separate box or like the file organizing accordion-style folder but it just doesn't work after a certain point. Hope this tip also helps you and thank you for sharing a satisfying video! Love the contrast of before and after!

🤔 an area in my house that needs a good declutter..... my whole house 😂😂 I am slowly working through. I'm currently working on my son's bedroom, but I'm redecorating as well as decluttering and organising. I have to pace myself though so it's taking a bit longer than I'd hoped but I'm making progress 😊 I need to do a second coat of paint on all the wood work and then paint the walls. I'm then going to run our carpet cleaner over his floor before we assemble his new bed and furniture. I can't wait for it to be finished, he is so excited. He's waited so patiently while we saved up to buy his furniture and he's being so good about the time it's taking for me to decorate 💖 thank you for the motivation 😘

@simplynej4 жыл бұрын
Amazing transformation!!!!!!! I shudder to think of the number of times I've "decluttered" and "organized" our office space. But I've finally had enough!!! I have one small bin where I put hard copies of photos. My goal is to scan everything I want to keep, maybe keep a few key photos and toss/recycle the rest. I also only have one bin of office supplies left that I need to go through one last time. I RARELY get into it, but still have a hard time getting rid of perfectly good pens, markers, rulers, etc. By the end of the summer, both bins will hopefully be gone!!!!! I have digitally scanned nearly all of our paper documents (in cases where we don't need to have a hard copy), and everything that is left fits into our small fire safe. I even went as far as getting rid of our desk. I have one shelf in our den that holds our office supplies and photos. I never actually sit AT the desk, it was just another horizontal surface collecting junk. And now the corner where it sat is blissfully empty. I love me some empty real estate! LOL!!! I, though, do not have children, so artwork isn't an issue I have to tackle. I do have a friend that takes photos of artwork from her children, puts the photos on a small flash drive, and connects it to a digital photograph frame. It sits on a prominent shelf in her house and cycles through all of their artwork. I loved that idea!!!!

A few tips that work for us is we made all our bills paperless. I have a small accordion folder for anything I get in the mail that’s important or something I need to print. Junk mail goes straight to the recycling bin or shredder. We know if we set it down we will let it pile up, so when we check the mail we immediately get rid of it. Any coupons (pizza or whatnot) I clip and put on the side of our fridge (magnet clip). We only keep coupons from places that we know we’ll eat from and that will get regular use. This works for us, but has been really helpful with keeping the clutter down.

Would the printer fit underneath the desk below the drawer? That way you could use the whole desk space when working on it. My number one rule for my desktop is keeping it free of everything except a lamp, a can with pens and box for post-its etc. And in general I think it is always helpful to have boxes and drawers with categories (even smaller boxes or something of the sort within bigger drawers or shelves).

For your desk organization - I have a desktop shelf from the stationary section at Marshalls. It's three boxes in front for pens/stapler. The two verticle boxes behind I use for two catagories...."needs action" and "to be filed" that way I don't just have a messy pile waiting to be completed or filed! Then I just file stuff once a month or so.

Hi! New follower, and I'm really enjoying the motivation, as I'm working through the Konmari Method. Unfortunately, I don't have paper clutter tips for you, because I skipped paper, hahaha! One thing I have done that my kids love is to hang "art galleries" in their room for each of them. It's just blue twine hung with thumb tacks, with some white tiny clothespins, and they hang up their current favorite artwork to display in their "galleries." When they create new pieces and want to trade them out, I choose some of the "old" art to put in their plastic hanging file bins (Sterilite I believe-from Walmart.) I have a hanging file folder for each year of school beginning with Pre-school that I stick mementos into throughout the year. Thanks again for the encouraging videos. Your home is looking great, and this was such a great declutter!

Tip for the expandable file envelope you have. Try taking the items you had in the mailed envelopes out and unfolding them the tri-folded paper is much thicker and makes it more difficult to store. I am someone that can't deal with unattended mess and tasks that could be done instantly as they came by. One of my biggest tips for mail is to deal with it as soon as you get it into the house, also changing your bills to electronic billing is so helpfull. In our house i set up a folder for all of our paper goods like bills, manuals (if needed), important receipts... This way we have all of them in one area and if we need to check if there are things that are only cluttering up space then it's a lot easier and kicker 😊

One of my tips, is that you should have a place for everything. That way when you do grab something from somewhere you know exactly where it needs to go back and things dont collect overtime!!

That's a great tip! If only I could make myself stick to it!

Hey, if you get your mail delivered to your house you can put up a sign that says “no junk mail”. If you get your mail at a post office you can try to request no junk mail or sort it there and they should have a recycling bin. I try not to bring any junk mail into my house at all. It saves me from having it pile up. Love your videos!

Our mail carrier is ridiculous and would not pay attention to a sign like that lol

I'm about to learn about the "Sunday Basket" from some of the other KZbinrs. I never heard of it before I watched (and subscribed to) 'The Minimal Mom' (Dawn) and she also talks about a "Time Will Tell Basket". The Sunday Basket is for mail, bills, things to do and go through every Sunday. (I'm going to learn about how to set this up.) The "Time Will Tell Basket" is a catch-all for things that don't really have a specific place, for example: paint samples, an estimate for a bathroom remodel, etc.

That's such a good idea! I'll have to figure out a place for a Sunday Basket!

I keep a wicker basket the front door. As soon as I walk in with the door I glance at my mail and junk mail goes in basket. Never makes it far into the house.

I recently got a mail slot to put next to our front door! I’m hoping it helps with the paper clutter! Here’s the link if you want to see the living room makeover! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gajNmXubm9Wpg9k

Tried to help somone declutter today. Was really difficult as there was so much clutter there was litrally nowhere to clear the space to. Making space so we could start was the first thing to do. Trying to getbas much in the bin or recycle as possible so it was instantly out the house.
@lovinglifeasmegan4 жыл бұрын
It can be very hard when you are in that kind of situation. My advice would be to just start in one area and sort through things until you have made enough space to do some more

I have a whole room to declutter in my grandma's house. I grew up here so there's a lot of my stuff of 31 years, her stuff that is sentimental but not practical... I'm expecting a baby in December and am just so overwhelmed... came here for some inspiration ✨

For junk mail, try the paperkarma app. Truthfully, it's like magic. You snap a pic of the piece of mail and they do the rest. I've used it for about a year now and I'd have to estimate my junk mail has been cut by about 90%...and that's a lot of trees being saved. I will say I am lucky to have a big roll-top desk in my office which hides a lot of stuff that would normally look like clutter on a desk top. Great job on your desk area. Your kitchen cabinet "before" looks better than any of my kitchen cabinet "after" pix...lol

In our home..once i collect all our mails right away those that I think is junk will be thrown away... the important letters are filed in our yearly folder. I have this Yearly folder Ex. Year 2020 and all important letters,anything that needs to be kept for sometime are filed in there regardless of whose mail is it...everything are kept in a transparent filling sheet that I purchased at the dollar store...so I can easily see everything...by the end of the year I will go through the folder and discard unnecessary files...

You have unused vertical space. Maybe you can get some folder organizers and dedicate one for junk mail, one for cards, one for artwork, etc. as it gets full don’t allow expansion to somewhere else until you take care of what’s there.

I’m hyper organized and my rule is that something has to be handled once and its fate decided - trash, file or delegate. I also have a one in one out rule and don’t buy unless something needs replacing. Things are put away immediately - laundry, dishes, mail, shopping bags, EVERYTHING. And when something doesn’t fit where it should go then it’s time to start purging. I purge multiple times a year. Once you see how much you’re throwing away you’ll think about where to spend your money on next time you click the “place order” button. I have zero clutter in my house. I’m sure there’s more but hope that helps.
