I love hearing about the homeowners’ life stories, particularly because of how you relate them with incredible empathy. You re-frame their situation; meaning, you put it in another light - free from judgement, criticism, and shame. For those of us that have been in desperate places in our minds, it’s vital to hear it the way you tell it. Also, I think it makes others (that haven’t gone through these various issues) more understanding. And, if life ends up throwing them for a loop, they will hopefully remember how you looked at these peoples physical surroundings with love, and they won’t be so hard on themselves. Thank you, and please don’t change a thing. It’s perfect as it is.

I think it's important to hear the homeowners' stories. It makes them more relatable and teaches your viewers to be less judgmental of others struggling with cleaning. For me, my husband and I are both disabled, so housework just doesn't get done most of the time, unless we have someone coming over. We don't invite people over, but sometimes my sister will come over for a quick visit, or maintenance might need to come inside. In those cases, we just try to hide the mess and then recuperate for the next day afterward. So, I understand the circumstances in which disabilities will make it hard/impossible to keep a home clean, but when you are physically able people perfectly capable of doing hard work not doing it, it's less understandable to me. So, I love hearing these stories. Even successful people have these struggles. It makes me feel less alone and a little less judgmental of myself, too. Also, my toothbrush charger looks exactly the same. Thank you for informing us that it is ok to get them wet so we can clean them. How do they get so gross when we're putting our toothbrushes on them after we've rinsed them off?
@EllieofAzeroth
@EllieofAzeroth 2 жыл бұрын
As the toothbrush dries, the water still dribbles down the toothbrush. It carries toothpaste residue with it because it's pretty hard to wash every little bit of toothpast from between the bristles. It gathers together on the charger and voila, your charger is crusty haha

They can get better by sharing. I see it the same as an alcoholic. It may feel embarrassing or a huge let down to others. But the people who love them only want the individual to get better. It isn't about saying, I KNEW u were an addict. It's about knowing how to support and pray for them. Lack of love makes humans draw inside. And cut people off. As in their support systems. Show love always. I have my own pain and problems that my friends and family know of. Hiding only makes it worse. I'm so glad when the people asking Aurikatariina for help, do. They r using a lifeline that could mean their lives. ❤️

What you said about helping people who hoard is spot on. I helped a close friend to declutter, clean and redecorate her home. *Everything* was sentimental, so it took months. Lecturing her would have been counterproductive, so I could only plant the seeds of ideas and gently explore the thought patterns that led to the hoarding. We had many laughs, and some tears, but overall the experience was positive.

I did my undergrad in psychology, and hoarding disorder is one of the most difficult psychological conditions to treat since affected persons really don't believe they have a problem and are unwilling to go to therapy appointments, etc. You are absolutely right that cleaning a hoarder's home without their consent will only cause more problems. You are such a wonderful person.

While what Auri says is true, my experience with hoarders is that it is still very hard to sit with them and sort things to keep, donate, or dispose. They will cling to everything and eventually get angry. The only way we moved a relative (who had to move because she needed a wheelchair and elevator) was to have her choose the furniture for the new place, promise to put the rest in storage, and have her sit in the new place to receive boxes that family unpacked. This freed up the ability to throw out tons of mice-and grease-stained items in the old place while packing up salvageable items to put in storage, and wash dirty clothes and dishware. Almost impossible situation. And they will go right back to hoarding in the new or just cleaned place. It’s a very hard illness to treat apparently.

"Keep it simple" is great advice. You're so right about having more than one thing. You don't worry about taking care of it, because we have others, and they eventually all go bad. More than that, I really appreciate your sensitivity, especially when dealing with hoarders. That is definitely more complicated than just needing to clean after someone who has been incapacitated from mental illness or other sickness or injury. You are fantastic!!

I really appreciate you talking about hoarding and how it can only truly be dealt with when the hoarder wants help. My mother is a hoarder and has been for many years, and it can be so frustrating at times because I know her hoarding is hurting her but she can't fully accept the fact that she needs to get rid of things to get better. I try to be there for her and tell her I can help if she needs help moving things out of the home, but she isn't ready for that and I understand. It makes me so upset when neighbors and family members are rude to her because of her illness, and I wish more people would be as understanding and patient as you. I also really appreciate the way you talk about mess without shaming people in any way. There is so much shame attached to mess which I find ridiculous and hurtful. Your videos inspire me greatly. Thank you for giving me hope that my mom can get better some day.

I am sorry about your struggles and you are so right, there is unfortunately a lot of shame attached to it when we need more compassion and understanding. I think your mother has the best chance of letting go of her things if she can figure out and process why she feels that she needs them to feel safe in the first place and what they mean to her, after that it is easier to realise what it is costing her. What I'm trying to say is that the absolute majority needs to get better first, then get rid of the things because only getting rid of the things doesn't make them better, they will only find new things to accumulate.

Please keep telling the stories and showing how you clean different things. One of the things I love most about your videos is your empathy and kindness. Without your narration, it's easy to forget that the messes don't happen because of laziness, but because the person needs help. This video was particularly good because it helped people understand the difference between cleaning and tidying. If you don't keep things organised and tidy, it is really hard to clean. I used to be able to afford a cleaner and my ex partner used to laugh at me when I tidied before she visited. I kept telling him her job wasn't to organise our stuff, it was to clean! This video also really struck close to home for me. I broke my ankle really badly at the beginning of 2019 and the week that I finally finished physiotherapy for it, I was diagnosed with cancer. I spent almost 2 years unable to clean my own home. Fortunately, I was able to get a cleaner to help and my friends helped a bit too, although it was hard because we were in lockdown. The reason I mention this is that, on average, a cancer patient who doesn't have someone living with them will be unable to change their bed linens for three months because it is too hard and they are too sick and tired from treatment to do laundry. So if you have a friend who is going through a major illness, when you visit, do some cleaning for them. People who are ill are often too embarrassed to ask for help. Offer to make them a cup of coffee or tea and then go into the kitchen and do the dishes, or run or empty the dishwasher or sweep the floor for them. Offer to do a couple of loads of laundry while you visit, or take out their trashes or change the bed linens. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are exhausting and awful. Create a team of friends who will go in and do things for your sick friend so they can recover in a clean and tidy home.

I have bunch of yarns when i kept but none of them were used in last 5yrs so thinking about it really makes me think to give it to charitable event where crafters gathers so they can use it instead of being stucked in boxes. Thank you again and more videos to come. I love watching your videos Love lots from Philippines 🇵🇭

I like your voice over and explanation what happened that the place got in such a mess. It promotes empathy and understanding, these are people with feelings that have been in a difficult situation. Not just lazy. I haven't been there, so I can't relate on that scale of so much trash all over, but there are things in my house that are on a "round to it" list. My house isn't perfect for sure.

I love when you share details about the cleaning, the tools, the process. How it became a dirty mess and what the solution is and how you make it disappear and how help is needed and done properly. That way you give more value for people needing help or wanting to help. Thank you for all that you do ❤

I love to hear the stories of the people who need your help, it adds the human connection and we feel more sympathy for their situation. The music is fun, but I like cleaning tips and comments as you go along, as well as the story of the person whose place you are cleaning. Please keep it as it is! Thank you, Aurikatariina!

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE watching your videos!! You are such a kind, giving, non judgmental lady :)I love hearing all the people's stories. I am not a minimalist ,BUT, through changes in my life I have had to down size several times, and purging clothes and things I do not need or use, was uplifting! 💞

So inspiring. I am really inspired to declutter now. It's much better to hear you discuss the cleaning processes and tell us about human conditions that lead to disarray than hearing some music like so many youtubers do. When people's difficulties and obstacles are revealed, it's easier to have compassion and not become a quick critic. Thank you for what you do.

I appreciate hearing the stories of the home owners and also the product tips. There are many many videos with annoying or distracting music blasting. Your background music usually adds to the atmosphere / ambience of watching a therapeutic clean. I feel you have the balance just right. : ) Thank you Aurikatariina great job 😊 I'm so happy for your family friend.

Personally, I like hearing what you're using and why. It helps me on more than one level as I am visually impaired yet naturally still have to clean things. You describing what you're doing or using makes understanding what's going on on the screen so much easier as well as how to implement it in my own home. On top of that, hearing the joy in your voice as you talk about things is nice while I'm cleaning. Thank you for the hard work and for introducing me to the scrub daddy line.

The ending before/after shots give a kind of hopeful feeling after hearing the houseowners' stories. I love knowing when and why you use certain products, and I've noticed the little pictures in the bottom corner too, they're a rly cute touch! Let you show what you're using if it's a more generic clean without interrupting your story. I enjoy your videos as they are, the voice over and music audio time is well balanced for me 😊

I love hearing what you use and why. Seeing the type of stains/dirt, plus seeing you use it, plus hearing you tell about it is a great combo for me to learn. My husband works as a custodian and he's even learned new stuff from you! (He's now in love with power paste and even took ours to work to show his boss)

CI love how real you are! Dont ever be embarrassed of sharing your messy lives some are messier then others! I am I was a hording show I had so much loss in my life from rape to losing my 18 yr old son to suicide and my brother being murdered I stopped living! Stopped caring and stoped cleaning I wanted to not be here anymore! Then one day I was sitting on a bench and a old lady came up to me and prayed for me I looked around didn't see anyone! I was going to go into the river to end my pain! God had other plans I felt this peace swoop over me and I felt better decided to go home and try I managed after 6 months to get my life back on track ! I cleaned decluttered moved toxic people out even family and lost over 80 lbs became healthy mentally physically and emotionally 🙏 you are an inspiration to others thank you 💕 keep going others need you! 🙏❤️ God bless you love from Canada ❤️ now work with homeless people and realized this was gods plan 🙏

I love when you talk and tell the house owners stories! You have a very nice, calm voice to listen to, and the cleaning tips help me too. About hoarding and owning stuff: I read Marie Kondo’s book about tidying up some years ago and it really changed my life. Not to say I am a minimalist now, not at all. But I learned more about our psychological attachement to stuff, and how to let them go. Super interesting and helpful. It’s much easier for me now to get rid of stuff. I am still a messy person, but now I look at it in a different way and I’m less stressed about it. Lots of love to you and keep up your awesome work! If I wasn’t so far away, I would offer my help on one of your cleaning trips :P But I am in the Netherlands, so it’s not possible :P

I enjoy hearing you speak and what you talk about, including the homeowner's or renter's story.... If you want to do something differently, that's okay with me but I like your current presentation just fine. It is especially helpful to hear what you use to clean and why. Very happy to see whatever you present as it is always interesting and has the lovely stamp of your personality on it!😊

I like to hear the stories and your talking. I was ill for two years and it was hard for my husband and I to keep things up, even though we did. After I was well I got rid of lots of stuff to make it easier. Every day I went around and found 10 things to donate, it was easy and after a few months my house was much easier to clean. Most older people have more stuff than they can manage and you do have to think about mobility, safety and ambulance calls.
